HEY YOU ABOUT TO POST SOMETHING STUPID:
Yes, I know my hands are large/fat. It's because of a heart condition I suffer from called Congestive Heart Failure. Here's a link to some information about CHF: cle.clinic/2TdS2Ux
One of the symptoms is that is causes fluid retention, mostly in the hands, feet/ankles, and face.
It will kill me one day. I'm doing ok right now, but someday...

Love those vacuum tubes, on some equipment they are more stable than solid state gear. They are called valves in Australia. (I learnt a lot about em from ‘Mr Carlson’s Lab’). Nice amp Paul.

Why are they scary paul ?? Is coz they blow sometimes or do the use a lot of power. Easy to tell I know nothing about valves!🤦😬

Very very nice pastime/hobby. I have often thought about involving myself so that I might enjoy it. Though I don’t fully understand your setup Paul, it does look impressive.
@learnelectronics
@learnelectronics 4 года назад
Thank you. The setup looks more complicated than it really is. All you need to know is that the most important part of any radio station, and that's what this is, is the antenna and the feed line that brings the signal to the antenna. It took me a long time to learn this. But my setup is like this, the radio outputs an RF signal up about 60 watts to the amplifier. Each of the tubes in the amplifier can take that 60 watts and turn it into 200 Watts. We put them together and we can get a total output I'm about 600w. I don't drive it that hard, my radio can put out a hundred Watts but I only drive it with 60 watts. So it's easier on the tubes in the amplifier and we get between 400 and 500 watts of output. Those four to five hundred w are fed through a coaxial cable to my antenna and the antenna radiates the signal to the world.

Nice amp Paul. One caution, though, that amps relay will corrode and fail after time. May I suggest looking into getting the Ameritron's XCV to amp interface buffer ARB 704. This will protect your XCV and amp's relay.

It's a actually a small tube amp. Legal limit here in the US is 1.5KW. But there really isn't thst much difference between 800W and 1500W. The big difference comes between 100W and 600W.

Your SSB peaks look high on the yaesu. How's the Amp after 4 years? Have you had to replace anything? I drive mine at 40watts gives me 500watts cw around 400 to 450 peaks SSB + - 10% analog swr meter would be 400 to 450watts 425ma plate 90ma grid. 1.1 swr Got to treat these amps nice. Will be interesting to see what you have done to it if anything or if it's still going after 4 years
