Trust Records was formed to give classic punk and hardcore records the home that they deserve. The great records of this genre sprung from DIY roots to influence millions of disaffected kids around the world. As we now move into the “streaming age” it’s crucial to keep their spirit and legacy alive. Our focus is to ensure this music is available for all future generations while also getting the story right.

I played with the Freeze for a long time, was friends with Springa, and always heard "Al Barile stories". I have a very different, and more favorable, impression of Al after this interview- Well done Pat and Al🤘🤩

It’s kind of hilarious (and perfectly Boston) for Al to still hate anything post-punk 40 years later. “The bass is the last thing I want to hear!” 🤣

Interesting interview. I enjoyed Al's take on straight edge. But he lost me at "bass is the last thing I want to hear".

I know that Pat was having a blast just being there, but i really wanted to hear him finish some of his thoughts and questions. Al is very domineering in conversation, and it's super interesting, but i also really just love hearing from Pat. Does anyone know if he shows up anywhere else? I would love for him to do a podcast or something

Feels like this kinda sums up the vibe between the two generations of hardcore. The older guys were more aggressive and in your face. Modern bands are more mindful it seems. Of course still plenty of modern HC bands who will still kick your teeth in :D

When I got into hardcore in the early nineties, both Agnostic Front and Minor Threat were interesting to me but not Black Flag, Bad Brains or SSD, since I didn't really know that these bands existed in the early eighties. What made me happy back then were bands like Killing Time, Judge, Youth of Today, Chain of Strength and a couple of years later all those new school hardcore bands like Earth Crisis, Unbroken, Strife and also Integrity. I knew about the Straw Dogs and F.U.s but I had NO IDEA how powerful SSD were in every aspect of early ferocious HARDCORE. In the late nineties, I came in touch with Bad Brains and SSD and both blew my mind. I still consider Boiling Point one of the best hardcore songs ever made. All the best to you Al!

Two great minds. What a joy to listen to and to imagine that the spirit of hardcore seems to be a be like a self seeding flower. I love also when the new guys and the guys from the old scene connect and converse. Conversation is the strength and wisdom of hardcore music and why it continues to thrive. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!😊

Always like good to listen to like Al , as he has like had a relatively like low profile since like SSD broke up and like the first two records are like seminal and like really influenced a lot of like kids and like bands. The first release is like legendary and I for one am like excited to be able to buy a copy if like it is actually available like for like straight cash and I don't need to like buy a hat and like a mouse mat first ?

TBH I always thought SSD were too big to be on it. Like how Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags and Murphy's Law were not on the New York Hardcore-"The Way It Is" and New York Hardcore-"Where The Wild Things Are" comps.

Al thought being on that comp was beneath him. It's that simple.
@nancybarile1529
@nancybarile1529 2 года назад
@@Druffmaul Absolutely untrue. Why would you say that? While he didn’t like the album’s title, SSD was putting out their own record at the time and focused on that.
@Druffmaul
@Druffmaul 2 года назад
@@nancybarile1529 Lots of bands have been in that situation. e.g. Bad Religion were in the middle of putting together their How Could Hell Be Any Worse LP when the BYO asked them to be on Someone Got Their Head Kicked In. So BR peeled a song off their album and put it out on the comp as well. It's not that hard. Respect to you for always standing by your man, but you're so biased you're totally blind to how super arrogant he's always been about his band.
@nancybarile1529
@nancybarile1529 2 года назад
@@Druffmaul Neither Al nor I are interested in revisionist history or made up tales. Al was on the record at the time (in interviews) and now on why SSD wasn’t on Boston Not LA: they were putting out their own record and that was important to them. So while you may think you know otherwise, you’re wrong. And while you can certainly say many things about Al, you cannot deny he was, and always has been, honest.
