Clearly from Hajja’s story we see that loving the Quran doesn’t necessarily mean one goes by it’s teachings.

The reason why Hajjaj loved Quran was because he was a poet and the Quran was and is the zenith of literature, grammar and Arabic from which one may derive poetic beauty. Being a poet, he was in love with the literature of the Quran. He was, however, totally blind to the teachings of the Quran. These are the people whom Allah refers to as deaf, dumb and blind, even when they have eyes, ears and tongue. Hajjaj loves Quranic literature, calligraphy, grammar and rhyme. But he learnt nothing from it. There hadith mentions that Allah can get good work done for Islam even from non-Muslims. Hajjaj was a namesake Muslim from whom Allah extracted some good for the ummah. But only Allah knows if Hajjaj was able to extract any good for himself from it. I highly doubt it but Allahu Aalam. There is a scary hadith about a person who fasts in the month of Ramadan and still gets nothing from it except thirst & hunger. Again, the reason is because that person chose to stay hungry and thirsty but did not practice the intended purpose of what was to be achieved via fasting in the blessed month. May Allah protect us all from such deeds of vain. My dear brothers and sisters, learn from his story and do NOT think of his biography as bad core mixed with some good. Rather, you should look at it as bad core with a varnish of good paint. People can recite the Quran beautifully and still not practice it. May Allah guide us, protect us all.

But also in service of spreading Islam, although conflicting with the other parts and difficult to reconcile.. I very much liked the remarks at the end - balanced as always. I don't understand this character subhanallah. So much love and work for the quran but many actions are so contrary. Allah's qadar subhanallah.

‘Asim said: I heard al-Hajjaj say on the pulpit: Fear Allah as much as possible; there is no exception in it. Hear and obey the Commander of the Faithful ‘Abd al-Malik; there is no exception in it. I swear by Allah, if order people to come but from a certain gate of the mosque, and they come out from another gate, their blood and their properties will be lawful for me. I swear by Allah, if I seize the tribe of Rabi’ah for the tribe of Mudar, it is lawful for me from Allah. Who will apologies to me for the slave of Hudhail (i.e. ‘Abd Allah b. Mas’ud) who thinks that his reading of the Quran is from Allah. I swear by Allah, it is a rhymed prose of the Bedouins. Allah did not reveal it to his Prophet (ﷺ). Who will apologies to me for these clients (non-Arab). One of them thinks that he will throw a stone and when it falls (on the ground) he says: Something new has happened. I swear by Allah, I shall leave them (ruined and perished) like the day that passes away. He said: I mentioned it to al-A’mash. Since Hujjah loved the Qur'an so much but didnt implemented it in his life , and even worse he did the exact opposite of what The Quran teachings were about.. it could be said that he loved Quran as an entertainment .. ! He loved the Rythm, the Rhymes of Qur'an as he loved Poetry so much.. it entertained him just as a song and poem is nowadays.. nothing more !! The "good" that he did by conquering India etc was with the intention for power of this dunya not at all for Allah as in details it clashed with the teachings of Quran..

Millions of muslim Arab Hajjads nowadays.

When Abdullah bin Zubair (r) was killed in Makkah. They beheaded him and hung his body while yelling “Allah Akbar”. Abdullah bin Umar (r) watching this said that people who said Allah Akbar upon his birth were better than these people. Why did he say that? There was a short period of time when Muslim male would die after birth but female would survive. People started getting worried that something isn’t wrong. Then Abdullah bin Zubair (r) was born but he didn’t die. So, the prophet (pbuh) held him up in his arms for everyone to see. Everyone started shouting “Allah Akbar”. Abdullah bin Umar (r) was young boy at the time and he was there with this his father. That’s why he said “people who said Allah Akbar at Abdullah bin Zubair’s birth were better people”.

If anyone hated Abu Bakr, Umar or Aisha, you would not be taking a neutral stance Sheikh Yasir. You would never call such a person a "lover of the Qur'an". You would never talk about the positives of such a person. Why are you then doing so when it comes to someone who outwardly and proudly hated Ali? He literally cursed Ali in public and without remorse? Why the double standards? Are we not commanded to love all of the companions? Isn't it a pillar of Iman???

Hadith mentioned by shaykh from Sahih Muslim: Abu Naufal reported: I saw (the dead body) of Abdullah b. Zubair hanging on the road of Medina (leading to Mecca). The Quraish passed by it and other people too, that Abdullah b. Umar happened to pass by it. He stood up there and said: May there be peace upon you, Abu Khubaib (the Kunya of Hadrat 'Abdullah b. Zubair), may there be peace upon you Abu Khubaib, may there be peace upon you, Abu Khubaib! By Allah, I used to forbid you from this; by Allah, I used to forbid you from this, by Allah I used to forbid you from this. By Allah, so far as I know, you had been very much devoted to fasting and prayer and you had been paying very much care to cementing the ties of blood. By Allah, the group to which you belong (are labelled) as (a) wicked (person) is indeed a fine group. Then 'Abdullah b. 'Umar went away. The stand 'Abdullah (b. 'Umar) took in regard to the inhuman treatment (meted out to 'Abdullah b. Zubair) and his words (in that connection) were conveyed to Hajjaj (b. Yusuf) and (as a consequence of that) he (the body of Abdullah b. Zubair) was brought down from the stump (the scaffold) by which it was hanging and thrown into the graves of the Jews. He (Hajjaj) sent (his messenger) to Asma' (bint Abu Bakr, 'Abdullah's mother). But she refused to come. He again sent the messenger to her with the message that she must come, otherwise he would bring her forcibly catching hold of her hair. But she again refused and said: By Allah, I will not come to you until you send one to me who would drag me by pulling my hair. Thereupon he said: Bring me my shoes. He put on his shoes and walked on quickly swollen with vanity and pride until he came to her and said: How do you find what I have done with the enemy of Allah? She said: I find that you wronged him in this world, whereas he has spoiled your next life. It has been conveyed to me that you used to call him ('Abdullah b. Zubair) as the son of one having two belts. By Allah, I am indeed (a woman) of two belts. One is that with the help of which I used to suspend high the food of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and that of Abu Bakr (making it out of the reach) of animals and, so far as the second belt is concerned, that is the belt which no woman can dispense with. Verily Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) told us that in Thaqif, there would be born a great liar and great murderer. The liar we have seen, and as far as the murderer is concerned, I do not find anyone else besides you. I can’t believe, that someone like Hajjaj had sincere good intentions with his good accomplishments. Maybe it wasn’t for the sake of Allah but to impress and confuse people and get their respect for his Quranrecitation. And maybe he wanted power that’s why did conquests. Allahu a‘lam. We know that also Mujahids, Ulama and rich people who gave much Sadaqa will still go to hell because their intention was not for Allah. Maybe the intention of hajjaj was also not for the sake of Allah. How can one love the Quran and still violate its rulings??? He should have known better if he really loved the Quran. For what use is the recitation only if you don’t live by it? He has the knowledge but still is not living by it. Like a donkey who is carrying books on its back… (like Allah described some of bani Israel who don’t live according to their book although they study it). May Allah punish all tyrants who had no mercy for others. And May Allah also don’t show His mercy to them. They had power over the weak but Allah is most powerful.

What a weird man Al Hajjaj

He really didn’t follow the teaching of the Quran. Allah alone is the judge of mankind but woe this guy he sounds so much like a tyrant.

Obiously he's going to be begging for Allah's mercy on his deathbed, that's what happens to every person in that moment knowing that there is no return. That doesn't show any iman in his heart. Very disappointed with this lecture because it seems like Yasir is defending the honour of Hajjaj to a certain extent. What use is "loving the Qur'an" when you hate Ali [which only a hypocrite does] and you don't take the salah seriously. How is a Nasibi tyrant who killed people for fun gonna be associated with Iman? I'm truly baffled by this lecture.

Your balanced statements mean that you're cursed never to actually stand up for the Truth and oppose the Evil. You try to butter everyone up because you don't want to fully take the right side against the wrong, and you think you're justified because of the times we live in. But you're not justified. Haq must always be stood up for, and Batil must always be opposed. If you don't think Hajjaj and his entire movement was evil, you're not worth your salt as an Alim. Anyone can read Hadith books and books of Ulema and start giving lectures, it's the way they represent the truth is what matters. You haven't done any favors to truth with this lecture. You've just buttered up people's ears who don't know about history in the first place. In a way, you've misguided them. May Allah forgive you and forgive us.
