About ten years ago, with very little experience listening to Ministry, Two friends and myself walked into a sold out Ministry show at hard rock in New Orleans practically blacked out, security was nowhere to be seen, pushed our way straight to the front, stayed in the pit for the whole show, limped home, words cannot describe what took place there. Thank You Al Jourgensen. One of my most cherished experiences.

Even though he couldn’t give two shits for it... Al belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Sham. He is an Icon and a movement. First met him in Texas back in 83 or 84. He was the coolest guy in the room. If you think you are ready for him, you’re not. And he is one of the most honest people I’ve ever met.

@@hailboognish3858 , Trent wasn’t his protege. He didn’t really like him at all. Trent is good. But he isn’t the icon of that music. I went to school with the guys from Pantera.... but before Darrell was listening to Ministry... they played Stryper like music. There’s only one AL... and he’s pissed them all off... but they can’t deny... He is the reason for that sound and soul.
@hailboognish3858
@hailboognish3858 3 года назад
@@toddmorris1858 I meant more like he learned at the foot of the master, took what he learned and ran with it even farther than Ministry. I know about the Pantera history, they took a look around and decided to change rather than fade out. Cemetery Gates is amazing at the end but that whole album is fairly annoying. They put on a great show but were never in my top 10 and I resented all the media attention that was focused on them and Metallica.

I was just the right age when Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste came out. Skateboarding, learning to play power chords, playing with drum machines, etc. Ministry was this creative expression and served as an extension of my imagination. I loved Mind, Paslm 69, and Filth Pig quite a lot. Lots of people didn't seem to like Filth Pig but I really loved it. Felt more honest and straightforward. Al doesn't have all the answers but he is paying attention to a large portion of the problem and gives that spirit to his music to help keep people thinking and not accepting everything on a surface level. For that his contribution to my own scrutiny and creative expression owes a debt. Thanks Al.

I saw an interview recently where he states he will at some point re-release an Album featuring reinterpreted tracks from “With Sympathy”. I can appreciate that he is finally recognizing just how much we fans love that album and early Ministry tracks. Come back to Houston , TX Soon!

I came here after watching the Fix documentary, long version here on youtube, again. Saw it 10 years ago and it still amazes me how there are humans like Al that even though they take more than anybody and outlast all wars, they are still that creative and iconic. Like he said in the doc that William Burroughs and Timothy Leary were more of a dad then his dad. Some people are built to inspire and carry the clarity through all the haze and insanity.

@@meta45354 Reading your name brought back one of my fondest memories. I fell in love with the most sensitive spirited gay Korean while living in Daegu Province. My grandmother, bless her heart, was half Korean. And she told me stories of her home town, Daegu, when I was a child. Born and raised in Finland, one can imagine how a child's imagination would bloom with vivid colors while listening to their grandmother speak of an exotic landscape free from freezing weather and having more colors than just blinding white snow. Telling you about the man I fell in love with is the subject, and he was and extraordinarily shy young man. To me, his shy quietness was a sign of our different cultures, and I wouldn't dream of making advances towards him. I learned a lot about patience from living in Finland. Close to 6-months passed before my quiet friend, 'came out'. However, I didn't understand that in South Korea, "coming out," is a term used by North Korean defectors telling a person about their original origin for the first time. His story was the most incredibly sad one I believe could ever be told. He explained how he was raised from birth in an opulent villa with a promenade leading to North Korea's, Palace of The Gods. From childhood until "rebirth," he was brainwashed into believing the current God on earth had chosen him to be an ascended servant. On the date of Rīn's rebirth, he was taken to the palace, cleansed, and left alone inside a small private room. Shortly after, Rīn, was greeted by a man who meticulously taught him what his purpose for God would be. After which, Rīn, witnessed the man commit ritual suicide. Finally, Rīn, understood his life's purpose! Everyone in the world understood their Dear Leader and God, Kim Jung-ill, never had bowel movements, because a God doesn't have an anus to shit from. My friend, Rīn. Spent 14yrs wiping Kim Jung-ill's rectum and anus as clean as a whistle. We never made love due to the trauma he escaped. Thank you, Gay Korean, for reminding me of my lost love.

What a nice guy!! Round about 30 years ago I read in a calalogue i used to order CDs about a band that I didn't know at that time. There was written: "... the highest grade of musical brutality, the perfect soundtrack for your mutant comics...". I also didn't know, what "mutant comics" were, but I ordered "In Case You didn't feel like showing up" - and since then till this day I am a huge fan of Ministry (and Lard). Recently I read Al's Autobiography, which is really exciting, funny and sometimes deeply moving, the best book from/about a musician I've ever read. Cyst has been removed, but it was cancerous but he is so correct on this because we never got it tested or addressed the issues that caused it. Cancer is still there and next time the cyst is going to be bigger. I love Al.

I almost thought Uncle Al was lost to the booze and opiates, my faith is restored. Very thoughtful interview that only the Strombo can conjure.

Al is a very intelligent man. I don't agree with all of his points but he is well spoken and far from what you expect from a burnout.

Finally a musician that isn't just going along with the neo liberal agenda. Amerikkkant is great, tracks like antifa and victims of a clowm are prpbably some of my favourites from ministry.

@@billriddle9215 Damn Bill! But yes, you are very correct in that assumption. Love Al and Ministry - but his partisanship and failure to criticize the excesses of the left is so absurd. The way he licked Obama's ass was cringe.
