Hall of Fame broadcaster Al Michaels joins the Dan Patrick Show and discusses which athletes have a case to be considered the most greatest player in sports history
I think both Dan and Al make great, nuanced points. My opinion, but I do agree with having Jerry Rice as the athlete of football, given all he did for so long, and primarily playing in an era when defenses didn't have so many rules against them. And, like Jim Thorpe, who I agree is the best American athlete, Jackie Robinson was so good in a variety of sports.
Most receiving yards age 40+: 1. Jerry Rice, 2509 yards 2. Tom Brady, 6 yards 3. Every other 40 year old in NFL history, 0 yards 4. Brett Favre, -2 yards
Gretzky won 9 hart trophy mvps not 8. He won 8 consecutive. He also won 10 Scoring Titles! The crazy part was he was traded after winning his 4th cup in 5 years and after winning playoff and league mvp. People forget the kings were the 3rd worst team In the league. In a team sport your teammates matter so much. Gretzky even helped an average LA King Bernie Nicholas score 70 goals, a top 10 player total of all time! Even crazier was he hardly had any off season. He played every game, went to 5 finals and had 4 canada cup tournaments in the summer for his first 10 years. Truly the great one
Gretzky could've had 6 or more championships, but he was traded young, when that team was still in its prime. Edmonton won a 5th without him, with Gretzky they won 4 in 5 years, and it could've been 5 straight.
Bolt I can see but about Phelps I will say this: there are waaaayyy too many swimming categories. Freestyle, Butterfly, Backstroke, AND Breaststroke??? For Bolt, it's 100 meters freestyle; not freestyle, backwards, sideways, etc.
I know many don't agree but Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player ever. Give Wayne his due but we will never see another Bobby. Man playing with children.
@@yorkshire3939 I would laugh too if I thought Jordan was the best athlete ever. I mean how slow must you be LMAOOOO. To even have him in the discussion with Jesse Owens and Usain Bolt is beyond stupid
