Reactors when they think of Al Pacino , they go straight to " Scarface " & " The Godfather ". But they never do his other movies like : Dog Day Afternoon - Serpico - And Justice For All - Cruising - Sea Of Love . I'm glad someone is watching his other films😉
@longago-igo I actually left that one and another one out on purpose because those Pacino fans , like I say " Scareface " is the only thing or " Godfather ". I also left out " Dick Tracy " because he's also in that and many other famous actors.
I'm so glad someone is finally doing an Al Pacino movie reaction other than the Godfather and Scarface. He's been in so many other great films. Thank you for this reaction.
"Kiss me." "What?" "Kiss me. When I'm being fucked, I like to get kissed a lot." Fun Fact: Film debut of Chris Sarandon and his only Oscar nominated performance. Wyoming State Fact: John Cazale's answer to Al Pacino's question of where in the world he'd like to fly to was improvised. Pacino's surprised response was absolutely genuine as he had no idea what Cazale was going to say. What Script Fact: Much of the film's dialogue is improvised, while completely honoring the structure of the original screenplay. After rehearsing for three weeks with his cast, Sidney Lumet took the improvisations from those rehearsals and made that the official screenplay. Historical Fact: The real bank robber, John Wojtowicz, had watched The Godfather (1972) to get ideas the day he robbed the Chase Manhattan bank. The real-life incident is used in police training for dealing with hostage situations and out-of-control crowds. The real robbers got $213,000 in the robbery. Method Actor Fact: Although he had initially agreed to play the part of Sonny, Al Pacino told Sidney Lumet near the start of production that he couldn't play it. Pacino had just completed production on The Godfather Part II (1974) and was physically exhausted and depressed after the shoot. With his reliance on the Method, Pacino didn't relish the thought of working himself up to a state of near hysteria every day. Lumet unhappily accepted the actor's decision and dispatched the script to Dustin Hoffman. Pacino changed his mind when he heard that his rival was being considered.
One of my favorite Pacino movies especially for the exterior banks scenes where film in the nearby Brooklyn neighborhood that I grew up in…and I remember as a 14 year old at the time a bunch kids would pass by the makeshift bank on Prospect Park West on our way to and from Prospect Park or the movie theater…Times were certainly different for us teens back then…the streets were like an extended playground..we could gather 10 to 15 kids without the use of a cellphone or schedule playdates..we roamed throughout the neighborhoods unsupervised, half the time our parents didn’t know where we were…our idea of after school program was to sneak onto the subway in Brooklyn and ride the trains to the Bronx and back…or hitch a ride on the back of the 5th avenue bus on our w ay to Sunset Park pool…back then no handheld devices to carry around, instead we carry around a Spalding high bouncing ball and we would chase after that ball up and down the streets, crawl under cars, climb on top of roofs for it because we didn’t want to lose it..not realizing it at the time how precious a 10 cent spalding could be.
Thanks for watching one of my favourite films. All the characters are treated equally. It feels so real even after watching it more than 20 times. And Al Pacino is incredible.
This is AWESOME! After killin' it in the Godfather movies, Aria is serving up a reaction featuring another brilliant performance by Al Pacino, only this time he gets to rev up his acting chops in a bigger, more spectacular way. This is what acting is all about. Attica! Attica! Attica!
@@cjmacq-vg8um Well.. idk if they actually use the term in film, but in tv a "bottle" episode takes place in one location. Other films would be Rear Window, 12 Angry Men....
@@bossfan49 ... thanks for the explanation. one often reads things and say, what does that mean? but when an explanation is offered it makes perfect sense.
@@bossfan49... but "dog day afternoone" contains many exterior shots and shots inside the car that allows the film to breath. even in 'rear window" much of the action takes place outside the apt although from the perspective of the apt. even "12 angry men" the opening and closing shots are outside the jury room and there's one shot inside a bathroom. now i'm sitting here racking my brain over what films would qualify as "pure" bottle films. uummm, interesting.
He also was in "The Conversation" with Gene Hackman. But in both movies he's in much smaller supporting roles. "Dog Day" and the two "Godfathers" gave him the most to work with (and show off his talents). If we only had "Deer Hunter" or "Conversation", no one would be talking about him any more than we're talking about George Dzunda or Allen Garfield.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am blown away!!!!!! Wow! I'm speechless!!!! Thank you, in advance!!!!!! Wow! I was not expecting this!!! Brilliant choice! Brilliant choice! Totally different characters from Michael and Fredo, right? Rock on, sister in cinema (and song)! You're a superstar! 🤩 Can't wait! (And thanks!)
the director, sydney lumet, was responsible for many good films. his classics include this one, "12 angry men" (1957), "fail-safe" (1964) and "network" (1976).
Network is another one of those iconic 70s masterpieces that deserves WAY more reactions. 12 Angry Men has plenty of reactions......but for good reason!
@@TTM9691 ... also "'network," written by iconic tv writer Paddy Chayefsky, is another serio/comic film in the same vein as "dog day afternoon." but i think 'fail-safe" is sadly overlooked. everyone watches 'dr. strangelove..." but ignore "fail-safe" completely. and it has a greater overall impact on the veiwer than "dr. strangelove..." i always recommend to reactors other GREAT films that other reactors never react to. and they always ignore. me so sad.
Oh, this one is rarely reviewed/reacted to! A gem of a movie! Al Pacino is fantastic in this one. It is one of these Al Pacino movies, that nearly got forgotten, like "Cruising". Maybe, because they scratch topics, that the mainstream still has issues with many decades later, LOL.
One of my favorite of Pacino's characters is "Lefty" in Donnie Brasco. It's another true story mob movie but Pacino plays a very different kind of character than what he plays in The Godfather or Scarface.
The "dog days" of summer are those long hot days at the end of summer. So A "Dog Day" afternoon is like saying: "one of those long hot summer afternoons"
Thank you so much, #AriaC, for uploading this awesome movie reaction. I love your content so much because it's so amazing, and I really enjoy watching your reactions to different movies.
I know you said because you had a rough couple weeks that you was in the mood for a crying movie but it was wonderful seeing you laugh. Great reaction as always . Thank You
I've always loved this movie! Pacino's best performance as far as I'm concerned. Perfect mixture of tense, hilarious and over-the-top. He improvised A LOT of the dialogue, especially the back-and-forth between him and the cop (Charles Durning).
@ariachanson01 As my username says, Aria, I'm an actor. When I was training, nearly every performance Pacino gave was like a masterclass for me. 🎭 Other great performances by him I recommend are "Serpico", "The Panic in Needle Park", "Sea of Love", "Frankie and Johnny", "Glengarry Glen Ross", "Carlito's Way", "Donnie Brasco", "The Insider" and "The Irishman".
One of my all-time favourite movies! I always eat Brooklyn-style pizza whenever I watch this movie. And it's tradition for me to watch it during the dog days of summer! :)
She's in Carnal Knowledge, The Last Detail, Annie Hall, Hester Street, When A Stranger Calls.....Seinfeld! That woman has worked with everybody in movies and TV, one of the few who worked in both mediums (and in both comedy and drama) with no problems. Really interesting career she's had, great actress.
Yes. That was Lance Hendricksen that played Bishop in Aliens and the police officer in The Terminator. And the cop (Charles Durning) was a US Army survivor of the Malmedy Massacre during the Battle of the Bulge during WWII.
Great movie choice, Aria, and nice reaction! Dog Day Afternoon has to be one of the funniest, saddest, best directed, and best acted films I've ever seen. It's also a movie you can watch again and again, and each time you'll pick up something new in it. There's so much to see.
If you want to learn more about the Attica prisoner uprising, check out the 1974 documentary called "Attica" from filmmaker Cinda Firestone. It's one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.
This was great! Everything you'd want in a "Dog Day Afternoon" reaction (which is a very rare thing as of this writing!). I love how you loved the humor! And the characters (especially the bank tellers!). And the acting. And just how absorbed you were in the story. It breaks my heart you've had a bad couple of weeks. I hope this movie helped chase away the blues for a a couple of hours. This reaction certainly chased MY blues away!!! Your commentary and your edit were so great on this one. I hope you get some sleep! PS: There are definitely other great Al Pacino movies, but you've seen the three that nobody would dispute are among his very greatest and most iconic. So don't feel bad for not having seen more in the past! I'm happy you haven't! It means you could watch them with us! 😊 (PS: The same year as this movie, Jack Nicholson did one of HIS greatest performances "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". That movie is incredible also, and it would be very interesting to see which you thought was the "greater" performance!) (Gaaaa, this was a great reaction, Aria!!! Thank you!)
Thank you:)) definitely feeling much better and I got so much sleep today that I didn't watch the video myself, which I think is the whole point of a premiere video🤦♀️ but definitely had good sleep😂
@@ariachanson01 It's ok; I was on the premiere but when I realized it was 3:00 in the morning for you, I assumed you were fast asleep.....and was happy for it! PS: I see lots of people suggesting The Deer Hunter. That's another 3 hour movie, so if you ever decide to do it...that's definitely one you want to start early! lol. (I have a general policy where I don't recommend American war movies to non-American reactors, especially non-American female reactors! Even if it's a great movie like "The Deer Hunter" lol.)
Dog Days refer to the month of August, usually one of the hottest months of the year, especially in New York. Supposedly the month where dogs catch rabies the most at one time. Or they used to. The bank robbery itself took place in the month of August.
Dog Days does refer to the hottest days of summer, but suprisingly the etymology doesn't come from dogs at all but a refererence to the position of the Dog Star historically at that time of year (see wikipediia for "dog days")
There were a LOT of bank robberies in the '70s, and several great films about it. There's a '70s mob movie with a bank robbery called "The Friends of Eddie Coyle," totally worth seeing. It's very cold and brutal, not as funny as this, but memorable.
This was a great way for you to follow-up with The Godfather. This might be Al Pacino's best performance ever. And as people have said a great blend of drama, suspense, and humor. As for other Pacino movies, I tend to be in the minority on Serpico. I think it's decent, but nothing special. As for other films I would recommend "Scent Of A Woman", which earned Pacino his first Oscar win. "Glengarry Glen Ross" which has Pacino with a great ensemble cast of actors. And of course, "Heat". Which has both Pacino & Robert DeNiro in a spectacular crime thriller. Keep them coming, Aria! You are amazing, and I hope your lip is better.
For Al Pacino movie recommendations, Scarface is maybe his most popular film, Heat is a fantastic film, Donnie Brasco, Carlito's Way, the Devil's Advocate, Insomnia are all good. These are mostly crime movies, it's kind of his thing. Though he does have some interesting drama movies as well.
Few other movies around the same time worth looking into. The Sting starring Robert Redford Paul Newman and Robert Shaw. The original taking of the Pelham one two three. Which Stars Walter Matthau Jerry Stiller and again Robert Shaw. And the original Death wish, first one starring Charles Bronson. Definitely three worth looking into. Taking of the Pelham one two three and Death wish. Really portrayed how New York was in the early mid '70s. Keep up the good work take care and be well.
Definitely check out "Serpico" (1973), the "true story" film Pacino did with the same director before this one, also set in New York. Pacino plays a very hip cop who tries to fight police corruption. It's a '70s classic as well. Another great Pacino film is "Carlito's Way" (1993), an exciting crime film set in New York.
It's amazing how Al Pacino and John Cazale (Sal) are completely different people in this movie compared to The Godfather. Great actors. Unfortunately John Cazale only appeared in 5 movies and died young.
Can you imagine Al Pacino being a brand new up and coming actor at this age in this timeline? Women would go crazy for him. Even my own Mother said it. This movie was interesting to see last year. Way before Scarface happened. I recommend "Scarface" if you haven't seen it yet.
Yes, Serpico is just as good, by the same director, and also based on a true story! You'll fall even more in love with Pacino; I can never take my eyes off his luxurious head of hair whenever I watch it :) The director Sidney Lumet has written one of my favorite books on filmmaking simply called "Making Movies." It's a really easy read and gives you a lot of perspective in the life of a director without being overly technical. Some reactors recently have been watching Lumet's "12 Angry Men" from 1957 and it's as interesting and riveting a movie as anything made today.
Definitely great. Not quite as good, only because of the cheesy score (Dog Day Afternoon and Network after it don't have any musical score which makes both movies way less dated) and the atrociously written and acted love subplot which only makes you appreciate how great Diane Keaton was in The Godfather, in a similarly underwritten part. These are ultimatey minor things that don't ruin the movie (which is indeed great!). But I do dock a couple of points off in a way I don't do with "Dog Day" or "Network". So I'll say.....ALMOST as good! Pacino is definitely as great! PS: He also made "Scarecrow" the same year in 1973, with Gene Hackman. Another great performance/70s acting masterclass.
John Cazale is the actor who played Sal, and Freddo in Godfather I and II. He was mostly a stage actor but he was in those three movies, plus The Deerhunter and The Conversation. Only 5 movies but all five were nominated for best picture oscars. He was terminally ill from cancer while making The Deerhunter. His girlfiend, Meryl Streep was in the movie in a pretty mundane role but she took it so she could be near him. Pachino had said that John Cazale taught him more about acting than anybody in the world.
Young Pacino... the way he'd sell every character: mannerisms, tone of voice, n specially his eyes. DA' MAN! The real Sony was a jerk, Al sold this character 100%. Serpico[true story] n 'SCARFACE' - put him in another stratosphere. Loved your react- Rooting for Sony, Lol, we all were. Bravo👏!
My two favorite Al Pacino movies: DONNNIE BRASCO SCENT OF A WOMAN With a three way tie for second in SERPICO AND JUSTICE FOR ALL THE DEVILS ADVOCATE And if you like Pacino mainly for the way he talks, SCENT OF A WOMAN and THE DEVILS ADVOCATE are must sees.
Another Pacino movie I’d like to see you do a reaction to is “Scent of a Woman”. It’s another of my favorite Pacino movies. I’ve seen a few other people recommend it and would like to add mine. You are my top reactor. Keep ‘em coming dear.
Finally won his Best Actor Oscar, but I wasn't that impressed. I think the Oscar was as much for his many previously overlooked performances as it was for Scent of a Woman. Hoorah...
I saw this movie at the theater when it first came out - it's a true story - it was funny and fascinating - that this robbery could have gone as far as it did. Pacino and Cazale are wonderful in it. I can't believe how young Pacino looks in this. Everyone in it is great!! Yes - that IS "Bishop" from Aliens (Lance Henriksen)
Damn, I feel so stupid! I've seen this movie a couple of times, and The Godfather maybe a dozen times, and I've never realised that Sal and Fredo were played by the same actor. Testament to the great acting, I suppose... (That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!) 😁
That is the greatest movie. Have you seen the two reactions for that movie that are up? One is Dawn Marie and the other is Casual Nerd Reactions. Fantastic reactions, they were both blown away. (Casual Nerd Reactions also did a great one to Purple Rose Of Cairo).
This definitely is a fascinating movie to watch, especially cos it really did happen. Reality truly is stranger than fiction sometimes lol. The idea that a failed bank robbery became some circus act on the streets that no one could look away from is hilarious to think about. Seeing how excited the people get (both the bankers and public outside) when they get the chance to be recorded for tv is amusing. It really captures the time period lol. What I did find poignant and sad, considering this seems pretty realistic for the time, is how quickly the public changed when they found out Sonny (or John in real life) was gay. They went from cheering them on, to laughing at and jeering them. Especially seeing the hilariously amused or quietly awkward reactions of the cops when they were talking to Leon and listening to her and Sonny's conversation. Nice reaction :)
another classic film with al pachino and his cast mate from the godfather, john cazale, that played his brother frado. excellent movie fashioned after real life characters and events. thank you, aria, for another great reaction. very nice. still watcgin ta and diggin it, girl. keep it up. shoutout to ya from your boy in east tennessee. can't wait for the next. go with God. peae. later, sunshine.=.
John Cazale appeared in five films over seven years, all of which were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. His last film was The Deer Hunter. No Pacino, but Robert De Niro, John Savage, Meryl Streep, and Christopher Walken. Great film. Check it out too.
I am really getting to appreacite your reactions you choose classics that are not "easy" to watch and do a great job. If you liked this movie I would suggest 1973's "Serpico", another a true story and 1993's "Scent of a woman" which also has an undertone of moral choices. 1995's "Heat" is amazing, Pacino plays a cop and it has the first time ever him and de Niro were in a scene together.
1. An old friend of mine was an Elton John fan (like me) at the time and told me this movie kicks off with "Amoreena" and I got to watch this movie and loved it. 2. A ton of well deserved awards. (14) 3. I kind of felt sorry for Sal. 4. You must check out "Scarface".
when he is screaming Attica it is a reference to the Attica prison riot. When the police were retaking the prison from the rioters, they killed 30 inmates and 9 officers who were taken as hostages by the prisoners.
So many great movies from the mid '60s to the late '70s or early '80s. Too many reactors are concentrating on movies of the last 10 or 20 years. A lot of the superhero comic book Star wars nonsense. Where CGI is completely overused. Movies from back in the day. Used to rely on great scripts acting chemistry between actors story and just. Complexities of the human experience. To put forth and tell a story in such a grand way.
I like tgf3, idc what people say, but it does have its problems. I'm a big pacino fan, I've seen all of his films and will take a break and binge watch them all again. Tgf trilogy are my favorite though and i watch them yearly, sometimes even 2x a year. Pacino was so pretty in the 70s, i love how he uses his eyes in films. Alain delon is also pretty with nice eyes but he doesn’t know how to use them and not as good an actor s pacino is
This is a true story. Ironically, the bank robbers just saw Godfather in the theater before the robbery. They wrote on the paper to the teller, "An offer they can't refuse". This is the reason Pacino accepted the movie role.
You should really watch more Al Pacino films, especially his classic roles, even a film like "And Justice for All..." would deserve a first First Reaction. Keep up the good work!
Aria, whenever a movie says it is "based on a true story" it usually means the screenplay was INSPIRED by true events, not that it is a completely accurate depiction of what happened in real life. They may take elements of truth and then create a dramatic, fictionalized portrayal around them. I hope your cut lip is doing better and that things are looking up for you now.
Hello, I hope you are very well, This week was perfect and even more so I was traveling for a family wedding, I had a great time and what I remember is that I drank a lot of wine and got drunk hehe 😅🍷 Al Pacino is my favorite and I love him great love in all your movies, Dog Day Aftermoon (1975) is a great movie and it's on my list of best movies that I've really enjoyed the story, I'm really liking the video reaction to the movie 🥰💖✨🎥🎞️ I hope you reply to the message by please 🙏🏻
when sal said he was ready to do it he meant he was ready to kill himself. his actors name is john cazale, so sad his career ended so soon. and with the bitter irony that in this movie he didnt smoke because he didnt want cancer but cazale was a heavy smoker and died of cancer, too sad. also, this movies a pretty crazy time capsule of the transphobia and homophobia of the seventies. hell, not even sonny was referring to her correctly even though he obviously cared enough to want to pay for her transition which shows multiple interesting layers to the character both failing to refer to her correctly but also wanting to show support just not knowing how, which was a trait of the real life sonny who never acknowledged her identity but still paid for her transition. anyways, we stan the gay man/trans women hybrid that is leon the character, as well as her real life counterpart whos name is elizibeth something i believe rip john cazale
If you do watch the Godfather III, please DO NOT WATCH THE CODA VERISON. You should watch the original version. There is a very important scene at the end of the original version that isn't shown in the Coda version - don't know why. And one Al Pacino movie that is underrated is 'The Devil's Advocate' (1997) with Pacino starring with Keanu Reeves.
