If I die and go to hell, I will be greeted by this girl and every sorority psycho with huge Duchenne smiles holding bedazzled knives and all shouting “roll tide bama rush! (in banjo speak)”

You either have to have $$$, have someone in your family that was already an alma mater to that specific sorority OR… you could get lucky and beg your way into one. You basically go through rush week in hopes you get picked.
That’s a sorority house in college. To get in to a sorority, you go through rush where you go to the different sorority houses, meet the girls and can ask questions. Each day of rush week usually has a different clothing theme and other rituals that are different depending on the college you’re at. At my school, you chose your top options at the end of each day and at the same time the sorority chooses if they like you or not and you may be dropped by your top choices. By the end of the week, you find out which ones you were accepted to. It costs a few thousand in dues for a semester. You can live in the house with other girls in the sorority but it’s not required. They’re super common in the US although tend to be a bigger thing in the South. I wasn’t in one but that’s what I know from my college!
Some families have a history of women being in a sorority and it’s a sentimental thing but a lot of girls just join to make friends. It puts you in connection with people with similar interests to you (at least in theory) and they organize tons of social events for members. Some sororities also partner with fraternities to host socials or dances. A lot of sororities will go on an annual trip or things like that. Tbh it’s also a social status thing where different sororities are “cooler” than others or at least they view it that way.
