We have had these in every Iraqi home, what a nostalgic heater/stove.. we used to cook, prepare tea, popcorn and chill around it in cold rainy months. Thank you for sharing.
Takes me back to my childhood my dad used Aladdin heaters in the greenhouse and we had one of these for the shed for brewing up tea and cooking on. He would take us to this crazy local hardware shop to fill up fuel cans with paraffin. Totally nutty place it was, it was a Tudor timber frame building and over the years it developed a very prominent lean it looked like the building was ready to fall over. They actually had a fuel pump inside the shop not outside that was fed from a tank in the basement the entire shop just smelled like paraffin. It was ran by this old fella and his 2 sons the sons were in the 60's so the old man must have been 80 plus and they would always have a hand rolled cigarette on the go while pumping the paraffin. How the place never went up in flames is beyond me. 😁
Grew up with two of these .Same color and everything. Every now and then it would run out of fuel while we slept and the wick would smoke and we’d wake up the next morning with black around our noses . It was the late 1960’s. Brings back fond memories ~ thanks for an excellent video !!
Back in the late 60's stationed in Italy we used 3 of the Aladdin model 150051 kerosene heaters kept the whole apartment nice and warm. I still have and use one today.
Had one of these in the 60's. Used to warm our living room up. You are supposed to let the wick soak up the fuel for a couple of hours before lighting it. Not all of the wick was fueled, thats why it was not burning even. Even a dirty old wick will soak up the fuel. I enjoyed the video. Great restoration.
The wick simply needed trimming (available from the same site as you obtained the other bits) and the heaters were designed to run paraffin not methylated spirits. You did a nice job but a shame you didn't maintain the original sage-green finish.
i have this model, its the 15 model made back in the 1950s. when i lit mine for the first time it burned like yours, so i replaced it the wick with a new one. i use it in my workshop and heats it in no time. its built to last, british engineering at its best.
When you're working with kerosene wicks, you must ensure that you trim them to the same height all the way around, otherwise, you'll have differing flames which can cause it to have more fumes. That particular heater is a "Blue Flame" heater, and when fully warmed-up will show a bright blue line at the top edges of the wick. Very neat.
Blimey...that's a blast from the past. One of four Paraffin Heaters we had to heat the house. One of my jobs to earn pocket money as a kid back in the 60's was to clean the wicks to keep the flame burning cleanly. You lifted out the perforated central component and replaced it with the correct wick trimmer which you rotated back and forth trimming the wick and removing the carbon build up. Happy memories!
Oh, wow! this is a blast from the past. I'm from England, and in the 70's my parents used one of these to heat our bedroom. My mum would send us to the hardware shop to buy paraffin. We were probably aged around 8 or 9 at the time.
Wasn't that the time of the TGW strike including the miners? I remember the power outages and having paraffin lamps but the glass domed ones and lots of candles. My father was dock worker at the time tough all round.
@@suzannetodaro5494 Oh yes , miners strikes and dockers strikes around the early 70,s . Those old heaters were a godsend and eficient as long as you kept the wick trimmed
For some households in Iraq, this might still be used as the only way to keep the house warm and cozy during winter! I know, cause I grew up having those in my house! We used it for cooking, baking and drying clothes! Love em so much , it brings back childhood memories 🥰🥰🥰
We had one of these. I had to carry the parafin (kerosene) from the self service pump at a garage 1mile away. I was 9. And it was always in the winter.
@@Restomaniac I hope to one day. I've been to 15 different countries and by far Turkey is still my favorite, I honestly think it's because of the people and hospitality customs.

I scored one at a yard sale for free. The condition was pretty much the same as yours. I didn't have time to completely redo it, so I did some minor cleaning, threw in a new wick, works great. But I will save this video because it's so instructional and you did amazing work. Not going to lie, I may copy your color scheme!
great job! thanks for sharing bring out memories for me in the 60ties we had a view of these and a coal stove to heat up the house in cold winters! greetings from the netherlands
one of the first flame heater we had in family, in winter we were all around it and sometimes put bread over it to make it more crispy, golden time ran a way , I am now 49 years old and I remember it when I was only 6 years old .... nice restoration thank you!
I'm 46 years old. As I understand it, this project has been a beautiful journey to the past for many people of our age. Thank you very much for your nice comments.
First class job, Sir ! My mother's version of today's "slow cooker". She would prepare the ingredients of a 'stew' put it on one very similar to this, let it simmer away all day, and when Dad came home from work it would be ready to eat, & enjoy I may add. Thank you for sharing.
My dad had a very similar one to this. My brother now owns it, and he has it as a decorative piece in his bicycle man-cave. A wonderful restoration here. Well done. It looks beautiful. Best wishes and peace from Dave in Yorkshire England.
I live in the USA. My father told me to get it was on Ebay and not far from where I live. I bought it cleaned it up and replaced the wick. Have used it the past 2 winters. Works very well. I cook on it all winter. Mine is still the original green.
I just bought one myself to restore. Trying to find the best paint to use.The wick probably just needs to be soaked overnight with kerosene and trimmed. Great job
Thank you so much. It is necessary to choose the paint that is resistant to the highest possible temperature. Black and gray colors can withstand up to 600 degrees. But still the paint sheds over time.
Miles Stair Wick Shop has a download of instructions for The Aladdin Blue Flame Heater - mica, wicks, and parts. Remember the burning wick should have a BLUE flame for optimal and safe use. Great Restoration.
I am just starting to restore the same exact heater. I was wondering how you were going to deal with the "pitting" on the chimney and on the cook surface on top. I am glad you showed that you used the exhaust system sealer cement. I wouldn't have thought of that. Now I know how to get the surface nice and smooth. I am thinking of leaving just the bare metal when I am done, instead of painting it. Thank you!
Great job. I got two of these. Next time, I would sandblast the chimney if in bad condition. It is hard to remove the enamel. The type showen has a complete brass tank. Looks great even without painting. What I am looking for is a vdo that shows the inside if the tank and the wick transport.
Good job man. Even in this part of world, such stove wasn't famous but yeah, the model and design was kind of same from this one which I saw in my childhood. Love from India.
Lovely restoration, genius move on the exhaust cement I would never have thought of that. I’ve got one but I’m gonna do British Racing Green pipe and top and polish the brass bowl. Thanks for sharing
Good job, used to have more than one and using them for heating cooking, even baking cakes until recent years we changed to more modern kerosene heaters, thank you.
Wick needed trimming to level it off. I always used to take my mum's to pieces and put it back together when I was young. Those heaters where lovely old things.
Fill it whit a littlebit Cerosene... Just a little and lett it burn out, then level off wick whit a wick cleaner. Aladdin makes them so no problem to gett. ONLY use cerosene in these burners.

There is a man who lives in Oregon who sells parts for this heater. I was able to order two wicks, a wick trimmer, and mica glass. I was not able to get a new fuel indicator window. I saw how you took yours apart, and I am hoping that with some warm soapy water I can clean it up.

a consumate restoration your love and passion shine as bright as any heater or lantern you restore as well as your devotion to bringing back these wonderful things back to life simply marvellous my friend.
Nice restoration , not to as new which i think is better , it still shows some of its age which is nice . So many take these things and make them like new when they should not. Very clever idea with the exhaust putty , i wonder how many others will now use that idea
Nice job, I just picked up one for $35 , I don't think the fig plants in the greenhouse would appreciate the work to rejuvenate it. But looking forward to seeing it used.
Selam.
Sevgiler :)
About 1 year ago I ordered from the following site: hattersleyaladdin.co.uk/shop/product-category/wicks/aladdin/ But I do not know the current stock situation.
The wick. The central thing, a cap with holes in which sits in the top within the wick, we used as a wick trimmer, screwed round it rubbed off the carbon, evened up the wick and then you’d turn it up to expose more. Makes me wonder whether you could have trimmed that wick!
Thank you very much for your comment, but it has been so long since this restoration. I don't even remember what I was doing. But I'm sure you're right 😊🤗🙏
@@Restomaniac I’ve been thinking since then, and I’m mistaken. The central metal thing inside the top of the wick is a flame spreader, and the wick cleaner is a circle of metal with a groove that fits the edge of the wick. Not seeing it here? You gently screw it round and round to wear away the burnt wick (flame out at that time of course!) removing excess carbon, and so it then burns clear and blue. A few yellow bits of flame means it needed trimming. You can still buy wick trimmers/cleaners
