Alamat originally debuted with 9 members singing in 7 Filipino regional languages but right after their debut single was released one of the members(Kin) left the group. Their comeback/anniversary single(ABKD) came out the same the day they released their debut single, right after that another member(Valfer) announced departure from the group, and just last night another member(Gami) announced his departure making Alamat a 6 member group. Check out their other stuff they are great!
I just watched the ABKD music video today, although I've played the song before, and I agree it's very heartwarming music video. You mentioned about lobsters, those were actually crabs or commonly called alimango in tagalog. It's a reference to crab🦀 mentality which is a negative mindset some people have towards those people who are working consistently to achieve their goals. These people have envy over a person's achievements by achieving what they couldn't or have surpassed their own, it also applies to those who have lost hope in themselves achieving their own goals and has bitterly settled on sabotaging the people who are consistent in their effort of progress and/ or achievement by pulling them down in a number of ways, and as you saw in the video, the girl was effectively pulled down which plunged her to darkness. The good news here, is that crab mentality is a mindset and that can change. While we can't change those people, as seen in the music video, when we fall down, we can trust that there are people who believe in us, but we have to stand up to support ourselves and receive further support. I hope this clarified that reference.
ABKD is the Filipino abugida i.e. like how the English has alphabet (Filipino abugida has an inherent 'a' on the consonants: A, B(a), K(a), D(a) Baluga is like the N-word. It connotes to dirty (because from the rural areas), stupid/illiterate (the amount of tertiary schooling for indigenous people is sadly very low as they have a hard time accessing education - they live in mountains and such), animal (because rural people have different manners than urban people ex. rural primarily eat with hands, walk w/o footwares, etc). Ayta is her band/tribe name as source of pride, belonging, culture and history. There are 3 Black Indigenous tribes in Philippines that I know (Ayta/Aeta/Ita, Agta, I forgot the 3rd) The boys were made to look like kids as she's a kid. Those were crabs to represent those who have crab mentality. This is very dear to Mo as eliminating Colo(u)rism is his advocacy. Colo(u)rism is an example of Colonial mentality which many countries tries to eliminate through education, national pride, and love/kindness. To borrow from Mrs. Michelle Obama "They go low, we go high"
The black girl she is a badjao (filipinos who have black skin) just read comments in the music video coz i can't explain what does mv about coz im not good in English HHHHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
The girl is Aeta po! You can see the sign they hold up where they cross out the word "Baluga" and puts a check next to the word "Aeta". "Baluga" is a derogatory word that Kapampangans from the cities call them. 😢
