I'm glad Alan focused on empathy as a vehicle for enabling better human communication. It's my opinion that empathy is the only genuine foundation for human morality. Not 'holy' books or fear of 'divine' punishment. Not dictates. Not even societal pressure. They're all external motivations. Empathy is an INTERNAL motivation that moves us to consider the effects our behavior will have on others. That's the basis of real morality.
