I could listen to Alan Alda talk all day, his voice hasn’t changed at all. I’m a OTR trucker and listen to lots of Audible while driving and he was a narrator on the World War Z audiobook, hearing Hawkeye Pierce talk about zombies was priceless 🤣

Me too I love mash I'm only 35 and I wasn't alive when the show was originally on I wasn't born until 1985.but I'm just now starting to collect the seasons on DVD and I love every season it's amazing!! Such a Fantastic show!! I can't believe that killed off Captain Pierce I was very sad about that. I don't like that radar left after the 6th season same with the fact that trapper John left the show after the third season. I'm just glad that Alan alda never left the show

sadly, they sold the set to the highest bidder... and didn't preserve it as a cultural landmark. Typical of our plastic (throwaway disposable culture). That is also what this show sort of depicted.. the disposible nature of war, where people become statistics (dead/wounded) in wars that revolve around greed.

The show MASH was genius. It was a comedy, medical, and war show all rolled into one. I think the word "dramedy " was coined for this show. Even though the viewer didn't see a lot of actual combat scenes in this show, it conveyed the horrors of war, both physically and emotionally. And I could tell that this show was a labor of love for everyone involved in it, because of the care that went into making every episode. MASH was a prime example of what a television series could and should be.

God bless you Alan alda, mash was such an incredible part of my childhood. It made me understand that war is bad, by bringing it into my living room each evening. Sometimes it was lighthearted and funny, sometimes it was serious. I know mash is fiction, but the chicken scene with Hawkeye in the bus still makes me cry to this day. I am nearly 50 years old and I can not watch that scene without tearing up. The Korean lady’s silent scream, and Hawkeye crying it was a baby, she smothered her own baby, still too this day haunts me and stirs up horrible emotions in me. As for the movie, actors Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould shared the honor, i believe, of making a fantastic film -- aside from director Robert Altman. He is a truly iconic character who brings a perfect blend of wit, humour, and compassion to the show. This show must have been so important to people who actually served and survived the Korean war. And the Vietnam war. I know that many service people who came back from Vietnam have committed suicide because of the horrors that they went through and the lack of help they received after. The same thing seems to be happening all the time. People returning from tours in the Middle East and Afghanistan are not receiving the help they need to manage with the mental and physical wounds that they acquired while in active service. I know it was "just a tv show" and was a comedy at that, but the people working on the show did try to present the fact that people were killed and maimed in war. We seem to have forgotten that.

The writers did base the show of real life Doctor turned author who wrote Mash and he was like the real Hawkeye Pierce. His name was Richard Hornberger and penned the book Mash under Richard Hooker. He was a recent medical school graduate who was drafted during Korean War and served on real Mash unit to be a surgeon. Hornberger said he did things in surgery that were against army regulations. He used the character of Pierce in his book to be like himself with his humor and wit to help get through the grueling hours in surgery and stress of being on fighting lines in Korea.

I like the scene where Colonel Flagg was trying to get a prisoner being tended to at the M.A.S.H. released so he could execute him. He needed two doctors to sign off on it and Trapper and Hawkeye weren't about to. Margaret realizes Frank could and exclaims, " Wait a minute! You're a doctor, Frank!" Hawkeye quips "Your secret is safe with me. Certainly your patients will never know". Classic 🤣

I did meet Alan some years later when he was hosting his program, "Great American Frontiers" at my work. It was about a robotic surgery instrument and the setting was supposed to be a Mobile Army Field Hospital. I was working with the equipment and keeping folks from coming looking for autographs. During some director time I spent about an hour with him just chatting about this and that. Very pleasant man easy to be with and funny.

Steven Weiler Sudance channel shows M*A*S*H Marathon every Saturday evening & Monday mornings on AT&T DISH. I love Alan Alda, too! Sometimes they put M*A*S*H on as a filler between movies, also. 😄

That reminds me so much of when a movie ends and you feel moved. So you want to "take it in"...savor the moment as you listen to the music while watching the last scrolls run up the screAND SUDDENLY. The next movie promotion appears on your screen before you're ready. MASH has always been, and will continue one of the best tv shows.

@@halenarouzer4472 , Murder Mystery. No, No... Its a Romantic Comedy. But, in my opinion its a Romantic Drama. He goes on a business trip. He meets a woman. Both are married. But, every year same weekend they meet at the same place. Its a great movie.

Worked with a man that fought in Korea. One night we found him sat down and crying. Asked him what's wrong? All he said was " They would not stop coming, they would not stop coming" Sobbing really hard. He was on a machine gun that had a wall of dead Chinese soldiers in front of it, and this normal man broke. He took council and made a recovery of sorts, but ordinary people were caught in an extra ordinary place.

After watching MASH for eleven years, essentially being raised on it, the last episode was airing while I was in a night class in college. I fretted until the class break, when my roommate and I slipped away to our room and watched the entire episode with a half dozen other classmates. I have never regretted it.

I was in college myself, but my family had a VCR (or was it a Betamax, can’t remember); I had set it to record as I was in class for the early part. At the time it was said that would be the only time that episode would be shown. Ten years later I caught an ad that the episode was going to be rerun, so I set my VCR to record it no matter whether I was there or not-I was home and watched the whole episode, then saw it again a few years after…and played my recording a few times as well.
