Tangled, which comes out this Friday, is the 50th Disney animated feature and, happily, one of its best in years. An action-packed twist on the Rapunzel story, this mixes gorgeous animation, catchy tunes and a horse who thinks he's a hound dog to completely winning effect. We travelled to Disneyland Paris (it's a hard life) recently to interview directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, producer Roy Conli, legendary animator Glen Keane and ace composer Alan Menken to get the full story on the creation of a different sort of Disney princess. I love how he continually refers to Little Shop of Horrors in all (or most) of his interviews(that I've seen, anyhow.) Love that musical. Brings back great memories! :D

now its no longer a mystery to me. i see why i loved the music for tangled so much, the genious behind the music for my other favorites, beauty and the beast and aladdin, is responsible for the great soundtrack in tangled too. this man knows his music.

Yeah, I so agree with you. In fact, I've been having a dream in which I actually worked with him on "Little Mermaid", "Pocahontas", and "Aladdin" (as well as all of the other Disney films that he has composed), and we even contribute music to "Lion King", "Mulan", "Tarzan", and "The Princess and the Frog", which he didn't work on, historically.

What a great composer of Disney movies. That too when he made Tangled it was overwhelming. My sorrows vanishes while Listening to his music.

Just a thought on Alan tying with Edith Head for Oscars won. Everybody forgets Dennis Muren, he also has eight oscars. Two of them were Special Achievement Awards (which is presumably why the count gets a bit screwy), but they are Oscar statuettes I'm a great Alan Menken fan and have nearly all his Disney soundtracks

I wish Alan worked with Tim Rice again; Glenn Slater's lyrics would have been worth bunk without Alan's music. At least, with Tim Rice, you had a channel of Howard there.
