For those who don't know Rob burrow was a very successful rugby league player who despite his short stature was one of the best and most consistent scrum halfs in the game. In 2019 he announced he was suffering from Motor neurone disease, its a fantastic book and even if you're not a fan of rugby I think you'll like it too. (Rob was on my rivals team too but the bloke was an excellent player and I wish him and his family nothing but the best)

I still use Shearer as an example today of a striker who would put the ball, himself & the keeper into the net if he needed to. Proper old-school striker

Great shout with Matt Le Tissier he was the first footballer when I was growing up that used to leave me open mouthed and gobsmacked with what he could do with a ball. I'm in no way comparing him to the players of today like Messi and Ronaldo but any young kids reading this who don't know who he is or never got to see him play please RU-vid him he was unbelievable.

We used to give Shearer so much s**t at Old Trafford but it was genuinely a sign of respect. The guy was incredible. Even at our best he was that one player we knew could still be the difference. Best striker to ever grace the Prem.

For me the Premier Leagues best ever striker. Missed quite a few games through some serious injuries and still finished with that amazing record

My old work place brings back memories, for those that don’t know the area it’s shepherd offshore land where sub sea umbilicals are made by two different company’s and big Al was close friends with Freddie, for those who have not met big Al he’s a great bloke no aires and grace’s just a down to earth lad and one hell of a centre forward regardless of who you support. 👍

I do feel Social media and the internet has diluted people and the magic and fabric of life somehow, and Alan has this strength of character in bucket loads. My favourite striker.

We met alan in Swansea 2 years ago, took pics with us signed the landlords Newcastle scarf and when we went to pay for our meals we was told shearer paid, blew us away an absolute legend

If you were to put somebody into a machine and wanted to make the perfect striker Alan Shearer would come out. The man had it all. He was quick, deadly on both feet, brilliant header of a ball, volleys, free kicks, penos and above all was a very clever and nasty footballer. A defenders nightmare.

Love the matter of fact every striker who's played against Tony Adams, always say he's the hardest defender they've played against.

90% of shearer's game was his football brain. He wasn't blessed with pace but his positional sense was above and beyond. A true football legend with a rocket of a right foot.

From joining newc after Blackburn, being part of top sides likes Bobby robson, being a saviour for many seasons hitting 20-30-35 goals whatever, his passing, leadership, and also ENGLAND! He’s mature, a proper man, a wonderful guy to have around, and he’s top class witty as well. His analysis is spot on people think it’s old fashioned and boring n he holds back. He took over on MOTD from Gary’s mate, and is always the best on telling it how it is. You can NOT beat shearer. Best player of premier league history by far. Henry yes had more ability and was better overall, Rooney was near about, Lampard was sensational on the pitch not just goals, scholes great in united team, but shearer from his stats, leadership, that lost art that is an old fashioned target man, centre forward whatever ya like, he’s outstanding. Deserves so much more.
