I have a feeling Fraser watches these old VGA's on an old projector in a dim musty room smoking a cigar wondering, _where did the love go...?_ No swearing, Little neat editing like the light-bulb thing at the beginning... And ending the show with an innocent tickle fight... On fresh faced, Ben of all people. Cut back to now... All we got is corpse fuckin' and a grouchy ole Frash...
I have had very similar thoughts myself. Talk of corpse fucking doesn't really bother me, and I didn't really feel like it strayed that far from the tenor of some of their early humor. HOWEVER, there definitely is a huge contrast between Fraser's personality in these early videos and where it is today. In fact, I believe there are kind of three stages it went through. At first, like in this video, he was clearly passionate and joyful. Also, he seems like he's just being himself in these videos. Later on, the Frash "character" seems to have developed. It seems to have been an exaggeration or caricature of his off-show personality and reactions. Eventually we get to the third stage, where we are at today, where he is very grouchy and cynical. I tend to believe he still thinks he is presenting just the Frash character (albeit a more edgy version than before) but that in reality he is showing us a window into his despoiled soul. It's sad, and I hope he finds his passion again someday.
Ahmed Nassef He still laughs, but it is not as carefree. Also, to give a very striking example of his recent attitude, just before a recent show he said, "You know your favorite game, that one you really love? It's shit." He repeated similar statements three or four times, totally deadpan, calling it a way to clear out people that didn't have a sense of humor. While I can understand what he was going for, it really didn't feel like it was totally a joke (even if he thought it was). There was a lot of bitterness there. Also, even if it was 100% a joke, it's a very different kind of joke and a very different way of trying to engage with his audience from some of these earliest episodes.
So much better then todays VGA :(. Wish they could invite the guys atleast like once or twice every month.(on the weekends when they are free from work)
And to add one more thing which I forgot to mention in the previous comment, Remedy did say that they took a lot of inspiration from Twin Peaks, Stephen King, and Lost.
@Templayer I'm glad you found it prudent to say you didn't use Call of Duty videos on your channel in something that has nothing to do with that. GOOD JOB.
For a game that was announced at E3 2005, it looks like an unfinished/rushed mess! I was kind of looking forward to playing this, but it looks shocking. Another great video, guys!
I'm really gonna miss Ben. If you guys do a live VGA to say goodbye to him, we should see how long we can keep up repeating "Snarf" in the chat in his honor.
Yeah, I gotta admit, you guys were kind of hard on this game. And it surprises me to see that there were four of you, yet you didn't even know to go down the dark hallway! Well, at least it resulted in a funny video!
I was hoping this game would be a solid game. Sure, it's just the beginning of the game, but I believe that introductions should grasp your interest in a matter of minutes, & not a hour or two later, no matter how hyped the game is. There were some Twin Peaks references in Silent Hill Origins, & probably more scattered through that series, but to completely revive a set from it seems more like borrowing than referencing. I demand more generator starting action next video!
@JKPancake It's considered one of the best and most original TV Shows ever. Look it up. I did that after finishing Alan Wake and I was immediately hooked.
@Ygdrasel impossible. It's a super polished game. House of the dead and the early biohazard games, yeah those were B movie charming, BUT Alan fricking Wake...the atmosphere of the forest man
@Ygdrasel what's this poor dialogue then? This shit was written by Sam Lake, the face of Max Payne, and he's a great writer. Check out the interviewswith him and even other stories from him, he's the man! Does this game have dialogue that's like"Jill, here's a lockpick. It might come in handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you." I don't think so. And the animations are like that because they didn't do facial motion capture, and because they animated the faces first and
LOL "i collect these" i liked the game but it wasent perfect like the fact that its "tonight on alan wake alan runs through the woods trying to get somewhere" every episode
I hear a lot of people say that american devs are not good with facial animation, and that the japanese are better at it. I still enjoyed this game for it story telling and sound design, it can get a bit repetitive towards the end.

Yeah I ended up playing Alan Wake just like these guys, making fun of it and not really getting all that scared, it was pretty good for a rental though.
@dwagothegod It's all good, I didn't get my 360 until February '10, so I've only had mine for coming on a year. BioShock was the first 360 game I ever owned, loved every minute of it :) I've only recently got hold of "The Signal" DLC, but still need "The Writer" and haven't even finished "The Signal" yet, I'm slack like that. XD
@Ygdrasel but it doesn't have bad voice acting, nor does it have bad dialogue!!! Srsly show me an example of you correcting the acting or the dialogue from the old to the new. Make me believ

Hey farfromsubtle is Alan Wake really that bad of game, because to be honest I don't own many 360 games I find worth playing (shooters and racers bore me after awhile) I thought this game would be creative, but watching you play this makes me miss the old Majora Mask creative days
@NarowAR07 and they were almost ready with their original version of alan wake before MS bought them up so they had to start all over again back in 2008 or 2007 if im correct so they just rushed this game :/ however i belive they kept copies of the original (was supposed to get out on pc aswell) and that will become alan wake 2 ! just saying :)
@Ygdrasel but I'm not ignoring the flaws, I allready listed them. And this is some kind of LP show on TGWTG, they shouldn't play it just so they can shit on it. Especially with the name
Huh, im staying in a cabin like that right now, lol. And since this is one of the options....I need a game that will last me AT LEAST SIX MONTHS for the ps3. I got mag because mulitplayer tends to last forever....but i miss a story. So any suggestions what i should get? Im thinking either Alan Wake (or WAS thinking, rather) Red Dead Redemption, or batman Arkham Asylum (havent played it through yet!) Or any other long lasting, GOOD games. Anyone know a good one?

@Ygdrasel I'm not a fanboy, I like other games more, AND I DIDN'T SAY IT WAS PERFECT. And if the writing sucked here than what would've been better writing heh? Since you know what's sucky writing, you also know what's good writing.
