***** It's depressing because most people I know wouldn't have the patience or the interest to listen. For me, it's a startling realization that there are far too many people out there that I feel I can't speak to. But then you go back to this video and I feel fine again. Oddly enough, I found out about this video through a SONG that I believe is sampling some of the soundbytes. (A beautiful song, I might add)

Actually, they thought his message was very much in keeping with their own Prophecy. And later, when we went with the Keeper to the United Nation and recorded him telling the commissioners of their vision, I had to marvel at the parallels between the Hopi and Hindu world views. Four worlds, increasing challenges, and the cyclic ending and renewing of reality. We are only beginning to understand the real message of these myths.

Most of alan's books and videos are even more clearly summed up by my favorite qoutes of all time. "words can never be the things they represent". -aldous huxley, dorrs of perception. This is what alan always tries to get at but huxley describes more clearly than anyone i have seen. Robert Anton wilson says the same thing "the map is not the territory". This all means that experiencing something is a different entity from describing it in words or equations.

If this was shown on TV today, Watts wisdom would we drowned out by network tags/logos and screaming commercials. They would add soothing music over his words with secret messages. In short, they would not 'get it' and think they were making it 'better'.

Everyone gets caught up in a one track mind atleast a few times, Others are trapped. Its easier for people to look at one side of a square & not the whole cube. Me & Alan Watts are inside the cube looking out. Where the cube could be many or one. I observe all sides, then i become what i am studying, in essence you see yourself looking outside other individuals from the inside of them. We walk in their shoes to get a greater realization of things. We can also do this with plants/animals/matter

There is a much stronger tradition of contemplative arts in the Far East than in the west. And what we find of it west of the Bosporus most certainly was an imported phenomenon. Indic-Iranic-Hellenic. That is the flow of influence. I could prove it to you but it would take about 10 posts to do so. So just trust me ;).

@SuperCookiemunsta Science may confirm spirituality (NDE research, consciousness experiments in neuroscience). Science is already there, we just haven't discovered it yet. We're limited by our application of science, technology. Science is perfection, our brain is not! Science is not "only improving", it may one day change everything. If you improve on an error you get another error. A wrong hypothesis can't lead to correct answers. Science is not a wrong hypothesis. Our interpretation of it is.

I found Alan Watts in the middle of a major awakening. His concepts are amazingly what we've all thought but unable to put into words. I love how he says he's merely a philosopher. Not a Buddha yogi or anything else and not selling anything. He's right that westerners are waking up more. There is a spiritual revolution he was in on the ground level. Many scientists are changing the way they think about mysticism now and Alan was part of that. He was onto something big and it's our job to continue it. So glad I found some actual videos!

This is excellent, in such a way we think that we each follow a certain "path" of life, a straight and forward motion from beginning to end it shows us that too is but our attempt at trying to bring logic to a world where logic does not belong. Where in actuality we don't follow our path but we walk randomly and respond to what happens along the journey. We pave our own roads, and in some cases we try to help others by letting them follow the trail.

Whether it's too idealistic to wonder if one day humanity'll behold a new view of the universe, one of love, compassion, spirit, and consideration for others and the planet Earth; I don't know. Who knows, maybe one day we'll see, or just continue to live in a world of mass opression with only more delusion, and destruction to come our way, blindness. Humanbeings happen to be selfish... And as for the more 'wiggly' people, the ones I consider to be more free, loving, natural, open - I only know a few of them. @3:18 it's an idea but still a reality for most because realizations have consequences and conditions of living that are realized tend to be unescapeable. Another reason is most conform and enslave themselves to their habits, life's or jobs so much they mistake the ambience of life for reality and instead of working their minds they choose the paths of least resistance in the liberties they give themselves.

@Generaldrummist I agree and I think most are just regurgitating crap they've heard others say, but there is a very long history of many different cultures using drugs to alter their consciousness. I'm not advocating the use of anything, nor am I demonizing it. @topbluffa1 How can you say that when you don't know what my view on drugs are? I think you missed the point of my comment, it's possible that you were offended but i was in no way making a bash on drugs. Drugs being far too vague of a term to be judged as a whole. I was simply asking "Why is it so hard to believe this man could think so deeply about things without chemical stimulus?"

@ElShadaiLives I don't know what kind of definition you use to come to that conclusion, but whatever it has become it is useless as a word, I might as well say everyone is an atheist, for not believing in many sorts of Gods. Everyone then becomes both religious and atheist in that way, better stick to practical definitions, in which case, it is totally wrong to say that everyone has religious beliefs. I for myself reject any belief having to do even indirectly with supernaturality
