Raymond New Hampshire here! still never been to Portland Maine but my homie just moved there and it’s not a far drive so me and the rest of the boys from high school are gunna slide up there soon, any stand out restaurants? Or sights around y’all, you would recommend?
@AndrewMoses-nj7ed there are tons of restaurants that are amazing in Portland. I recommend looking up the Portland food map on Google and choosing one from there.
Seems to me Zen is the art of the question, not as such the art of the answer. And indeed in the moment anyone is answering a question, they are closing their mind to the many possibilities the question opens and unaware of the totality. It seems the nature of answers, and the nature of Zen are mutually exclusive. The main question of Zen: Are you seperate, what is your nature? Is often communicated as an answer: you are one with all. Partially true. But that is definitely not the whole story, the whole story is in the question and relaxing in the process of failing to answer it.
@@mikehunte398 suffering comes from unfulfilled desires, if you stop desiring then you fulfil the desire of stopping desire. You could say it's a desire to remain without desire, but as long as you're without desire then that is also being fulfilled = no suffering
This clip confirms to me what differentiates Watts misty-eyed malarkey from other gouging gurus is not the incandescence of his apparent conviction but rather the sly rheotrical stratagems of Christian cults which he was trained under.
If his message helps people live a more wholesome life, then what’s the harm? It’s not that serious and you can put your axe down. Focus more on pointing out things that matter, and put your efforts into making your immediate world a better place.
Love your playful verbosity, but Alan is hardly tied to Christian cultism, this is obvious in his blatant declaration that the Me, Myself and I is God.
That thieves mention had no assignment to vilify a swami….jussayin. It was rather a coincidencidental example of recognition between like kind-of any kind.
Never saw so many frikkin commercials in a video. RU-vid execs must be jonesing for more subscribers/profits. Or maybe it’s a Zen challenge of patience…
i hate capitalism, yet, i know it’s necessary, instead of conducting job interviews, i will never be practical in my businesses, in any sense, i had this idea just now to drop this comment in some alan watts talks and see if those seeds one day sprout, if you want to not want anything yet have this desire to do something of value come to me in the form of this comment and i will know your intention above any other questions i could ask you, so, whenever you’re ready, i’ll be here
We are all doing it wrong. Placing value on things which have none. We garner goods and materials and falsely chase status and power, creating false narratives in our minds that such things will bring happiness, contetentment, joy. Instead of gratifying that inherent need to find purpose and implement it's creation, we deepen the void within us, constantly trying to fill it with overconsumption of food, great financial wealth, status or substances that always leave us wanting more. Then justifying pur personal distractions in an attempt to fill that ever increasing emptiness but to no avail; all temporary. We justify false narratives within our own minds to perpetuate mechanisms of defense when in actuality it only serves to deepen the divide within us. We invest time and energy into products that yield no true sustainable contentment often times by capitalizing on the weakness of others to boost our own position when we should instead give support to those that are weak. Financial stability is a necessity and greater than average wealth can provide the means of more fruitful pursuits. Yet still we continue to corrupt ourselves, no less than the very food that we grow and ingest, which in turn makes us ill. We all need sustence, shelter and warmth. I, unfortunately, consistently fall short in the quest towards economic viability. Ive cleared a pathway directly to self realization and self awareness. It's lonely here and now I'm inefficient, insufficient, and less effective. Albeit the void is healing, closing, and filling, the financial disregard is often limiting and burdensome. Still....we are all doing it wrong. Chasing our purpose the same way a cat chases it's own tail.
Not this one know. It is a clipped segment of a talk not under the same title if I remember rightly. He did several series of talks on Zen, could be any. It's real though for sure.
