Awesome insights as usual Mr Horner. I can actually add to the content tonight. The little discussion between Julian Alaphilippe and Pileo Sanchez was Julian mad because Sanchez attacked them. Sanchez then said you didn’t pull through when asked Julian’s response was he went back to car for bottles you see him point to cage and say in French bouteiles. I hope I was able to clear up for ya and I agree Julien is a shit disturber in a break away but his form appears to be improved from his knee issues. Keep up the great work.

Even the Eurosport commentators said that Alaphillipe is racing the same way he did when he was super strong, but needs to rethink his tactics now that he can’t attack so many times and still win. If it was obvious to THEM, it’s pretty obvious! 😂 I used to love watching Julian race, and still do, because he really animates races. But if he wants to WIN, he needs to change his strategy.

OK, this has to stop. The British GCN podcast is saying that Pogacar is greedy. They're even asking people to say if Pogacar is greedy or not. The American podcast WEDU-THEMOVE, with Armstrong and Johan Bruyneel, are saying the same??? I mean WTF!!! Would they be saying the same shit if a American or British cyclist was NO.1 in the world? NO, they wouldn't. Shame on you. The only American podcaster I love watching and listening to is Chris Horner. His analysis and comments are mostly correct and fair. One aspect that I grabbed from watching the TdF (1998-2009) on TSR 2 (Swiss), FR2/FR3 and Eurosport, is something I rarely hear on these shows and foruns now that I'm back (since 2010) in the USA. If riders are "knuckleheading" off the front of the peloton, might that be "Sponsor pressure"? Like: "hey guys, our Sponsor wants to see their jersey *doing something* so go light it up!" There's a nuance between being urged to breakaway, or being urged to be seen on TV.

Julian Alaphillipe has always raced like this, and he always has been running his mouth in any break. This always has been his character and attitude. Nothing has changed. It's just that in the past when he was younger, he was able to win, and now that he is older and his ability has diminished, he is not able to win, but he is still doing the same thing he always has been doing. In sports that require skills, like basketball, players acquire new skills as their athletic ability diminishes. But for road cycling, there isn't much skills involved and it's mainly about endurance, so cyclists can't really acquire new skills to make up for the diminishing endurance.

I think we are watching that happen already during the last three stages. Saving power whenever possible. Not the TT of course. 🤔👊🦋

I’ve thought so as well. Alaphilippe’s contract is up this year. If he doesn’t get in front of the cameras with some kind of evidence he’s still got some form, his next job might be harder to find and a few euros less. He’s not racing intelligently, he’s racing to show himself and prove he’s still got it in the tank.

I always saw Julian Allaphilippe as a good punchy rider like around 2021 he was really good on that opening stage of the Tour but as he's getting older and he's versing these younger riders he drops off early and when he was in shape he could just wait to attack and then win the stage but Julian just doesn't have the 2020 or 2021 power but he has enough ahead of others at the Giro that's the way I see it. But also if Pogacar wasn't in the Giro I think Allaphilippe would be doing his normal tactics because he just knows he is not on Pogacars level and he has to try something to stop Pogacar but it is what it is he just doesn't have it anymore now you got the next punchy climber of Remco Evenepoel that I believe has taken Allaphilippes place but I know Allaphilippe can win I agree with you just tough with the new young riders nowadays.🤔👊🦋🦋

These guys being knuckleheads, I’m wondering if the DS want them to make these moves for sponsors exposure. The guy at the front is going to be on camera more than the guy at the back after all.

An athlete makes many mistakes when she/he lack confidence. Julian Alaphilippe is no exception and with a CEO on the team that "kills" his cyclist in public you get a lot of stuff to single out knucklehead 😉

@Chris i think you shouldn't say you are watching Eurosport while in the US. Uncle SAM will come after you for piracy 😂. If i am not wrong Eurosport isn't telecast in North America and we are left to see Flosports and Peacock commentary. I personally prefer the commentators on Eurosport and former GCN guys, since we have you for 20 mins after the fact.

I want to see Alaphilippe win again too but every time I see him launch some ridiculous attack I just shake my head, especially when it looks like he has some good form. I don't understand how he can make such poor tactical choices. It kills me to watch him do it repeatedly.

I am not an expert but Quickstep is the knucklehead. Adaphilip wants to race and break since the beginning. Why not quickstep support that and send riders with him or sign riders that rides like him for him... Urmin if we csnt stop him from making breaks then why not join him..... I can believe that we need riders like cavagna woth him those that can do long distance solo to accompany him. I believe he is better then pogacar but the team does not work according to his strenghts and his alone most of the time

I agree with pretty much everything, but on stage 9 narvaez almost won cause Julian made the race hard. The 2 other climb were less steep ans he doesnt have a team capable of pacing hard. And if it is too hard probably pog jump too and its over
@ChrisHornerCycling
@ChrisHornerCycling 14 дней назад
Or Narvaez almost won because Alpecin’s Conci went up the road with JA and wasn’t back there to help control the racing with Trek. Ton of riders and teams to blame because if we really want to talk tactics you and I both know that Pogacar could have smoothly controlled the peloton for Molano up the last climb and down the descent, or he could have just soloed it if he wasn’t thinking about saving the legs. 🦵 😜🦋👊

My buddy's comment, after watching the final 1998 World Cup match (won by France 🇫🇷) on an old TV outside a wine bar on Lac Léman (lake Geneva)... said: "you know what? (En français) French textbook publishers are going to revise "20th century history" books: they'll reduce World War 1 and World War 2 into one paragraph each... and create a whole foookin' chapter on 'The Road to the Victorious World Cup of 1998'!!". I believe in a similar way, if a Frenchman ever wins Le Tour again 🎉😂😅😅
