I was an old timey phone operator ~ it was a great job ~ and I never messed up a call! I'm going to live vicariously through you guys on this trip. What a ride.
That's exactly what it's like being an RVer in the San Diego area. We either have the huge empty desert to the east, or have to get through the Los Angeles metropolis to the north before we can get anywhere. Coming back sucks every time. Great one-liner!
Victoria, you and Craig so complement each other. In moments when he may despair, your can-do spirit pulls you both through. In many of the daring adventures you four have - I'm on pins and needles fearing the worst - you come through in the end. You are the can-do, and Craig is the will-do - even when he's not feeling up to it, he perseveres and gets it done. A safe and happy journey to you all and your fellow travelers. 👍🏾❤️🙏🏾
I love that you take your time and see all the things! I was near the Hoover Dam about 40 years ago and begged the driver to stop and explore it. Nope. That 40 year itch finally got scratched a few years ago. So glad you do all the things! Be safe and keep enjoying life!! ❤
As someone that used to live about 45 minutes from Dawson Creek, and used to drive all of those highways ALOT for work in the oilfield I agree, BORING!!!!!
Such an exciting adventure! I am not sure I would have the guts to take my brand new Brinkley on that trip! We will be in the porcupine mountains in Michigan in the next two weeks! Love watching.
Ok guys...its the Alaska Highway...not the "Alaskan"! Some people refer to it as the Alcan which is perhaps why you are slightly off in pronunciation. Its an intersting trip...dont get too paranoid about running out of fuel....there are stops every 50 to 100 miles for sure.
Lol I know!! I think it is the mix between Alaska and Alcan and once I got it wrong once, it just kept happening 🤣🤣 I’d think about it every time but just be like “oh well they know what I mean” and thank you for joining us on the adventure!
OMG… I am retired from 21 years in the TSA. One day when searching a woman’s bag, my officer pulled out a device that concerned the x-ray operator. The woman exclaimed “Oh, you’re worried about Bob?” What is Bob asked my officer? She said “That’s my Battery Operated Boyfriend!” 🙄
I have just stumbled upon your channel. You're quickly becoming my favorite. I love that you keep it real and show everything. It's not all paid advertising or rainbows
Ok thats it... you all are making my lunches from here on out!! peanut butter, banana & honey... looks amazing! Thanks for sharing. Safe Travels (yes, I am behind on watching... oy!)
You're right the ALCAN is really a boring, you may want to consider on your return taking the Top of the World highway to Dawson city then to the Cassiar highway in BC. In early September the colors are spectacular. The Top of the World is best traveled when dry. You won't regret this route.
How are you liking the Brinkley? I’m so upset that I purchased my fifth wheel before I knew about Brinkley. Someone had a new Brinkley at our seasonal campground this weekend but never saw them around to talk with 😞
Duh, guys. Why not listen to audio books to pass the time. Lots of interesting books you can listen to. I’ve driven many a long road made great with a good book.
I have an idea for your Alaska content. Have the girls (Victoria and Kalyn) go off on an adventure and post it on one channel, and have the guys (Craig and Joe) do another adventure and post it on the other channel ( or you can post the same content on both utube channels) Ask us to view both and like and subscribe. The team that gets the most likes wins. You all decide the prizes.
You should consider getting an auxiliary fuel tank so you don't have to stop so often for fuel. You wouldn't even necessarily have to connect it into your truck's fuel system. You could get one with a pump and then just pump it straight into your truck fuel tank.
Golly, half the alure of driving to Alaska, are the wildlife on the side of the road. And you just blew past a herd of bison!! In order to spot wildlife, go 45mph. The moose, elk, bears and mountain sheep are there. Just harder to spot while going 55.
The switchboard you shared the line with 12 other residences. It was called the party line and they would switch you over something. You may not know it was before your time. Yeah, yeah I figured it out. I’m older than dirt, but not older than sand.
Craig slow down there brother, not nice leaving friends. I had a friend who would do the same. I see they caught up with y’all and it’s not always best to be first. Do y’all carry extra fuel cans? Road through the forest looks like it’s in great shape. My two favorite couples in the rv community!
Man that forest looks so dense on both sides, that town was so cool and the museum of the old mill great filming putting things together. I pray you have safe travels and no problems. Can’t wait for more.❤❤
Hey Craig, I use a Infared temperature gun to check what's going on with my bearings and brakes. I get a reading at the hub where the bearing contact area is and the outer part of the hub at the brake contact area. All 4 are usually pretty consistent temp readings. if I get one that starts getting some higher temps I will check it more often.
Here’s a link to their channel! youtube.com/@openroading We didn’t actually go to Alaska together to “collab”, we’re just really good friends who planned to basically spend the entire summer together. And we both happen to be RU-vidrs 😄 so, you’ll definitely see us both appear in each others videos throughout the summer, but won’t necessarily be talking and “on camera” in every video together. And honestly, in the days this video were filmed we didn’t hang out much, because we both have different work schedule and drive in separate vehicles 😄
Didn't see where it was mentioned that Alaskan Hwy was originally built by the Army in WW2. the went thru hell building it in 18 months. Winter and Summer.
In California they’re called a pigeon a pigeon passes you and starts speeding you’re like yes! You can hit it too and just don’t go quite as fast and if a cop comes they take down the pigeon first
I just read that effective August 1st there will be new rules applied to bringing dogs into the US. The rules will also apply to US dogs returning to the US after a trip to Canada or abroad.
1999 Road closed at Burwash Landing for wildfires and reopened the day before we came through. Coming back the fire had turned around and come back through and burned many more houses than when we went up.
The Badger is the last coal fired steam passenger ship in the United States. Also it is not subsidized by tax payer money. That is why the cost is what it is. It is an amazing piece of operational history.
The best resource for finding fuel are small town visitor centers. They know what's ahead. At one visitor center the lady handed me a sheet and said here are the gas stations for the next 1000 miles. I called them this morning and they are open and have fuel. BTW, Craig, We drove 11,000 miles and did not break anything.
We would take a flat and paved spot on the side of the road over a slighly scenic but very steep hill. Looks like an amazing drive so far, even though it might be a bit boring. I'm sure it will get exciting soon! 🐾🐾
The road is the calm before the storm. Looking good. The fires in Alaska are pretty bad at this time. Today was the first rain in 3 weeks here in Palmer. This was a much needed rain relief for the fires! Be safe and get better radios to communicate lol.
I’m not really sure if there are rules to collaborating or not. I don’t know them if there are lol. But, we aren’t “collaborating” per say. We’re just traveling with our friends this summer who happen to be RU-vidrs. So, you’ll probably see us appear within each others videos throughout the summer, but won’t necessarily be “on camera” in every episode. It’s twice as much work to coordinate our schedules together and then try to film the same activity with two cameras going. And we definitely aren’t doing that for every video we film this entire summer 😅 especially since we are together because we’re friends and it’s actually a lot more fun just hanging out and not working every time we hang out also. Also, a lot of our videos happen while traveling and we do drive separate vehicles 😆
We definitely pop up in each others’ videos from time to time! But everything Victoria said is true-it takes a lot more work to film everyone together and we want to enjoy Alaska without that added pressure. But this way, you get to watch two channels with two different perspectives since our content won’t be the exact same. It will give you more to enjoy! -K
I'm excited to be seeing both couples and hear there likes and dislikes separately... Happy and safe travels to you all from Australia 🇦🇺... It's our dream to retire in December and then be looking forward to seeing 👀 ... our lovely country.😊
Great video guys!! We are considering doing the Alcan but are concerned with connectivity. Can you guys let us know how Starlink works during your trip?
what is the leveling app you are using to decide if you need blocks? Thanks for another informative and fun video. Look forward to all your upcoming Alaska adventures ❤❤❤
Great video! The town you visited was very cool and interesting. I saw someone suggest extra fuel tanks and that's what I have is 2 5 gal fuel (yellow) cans. I definitely like your 2nd choice of pull off areas. The first one may have caused some damage. I'm looking forward to your next video. Safe travels!
You should put the bike cover on upside down. That way if any little nuts and bolts rattle off, they get caught in the cover. Not fall to the road. Cheers
I'll do my best. There are 3.78 litres in a US gallon and 4.54 litres in a Canadian gallon. Craig pumped 125.18 litres or 33.12 US gallons. Fuel was $1.929 per litre. One Canadian dollar is .73 US dollars so 1 litre was $1.408 US dollars. So $1.408x3.78=$5.322. So a US gallon in US funds where he fueled costs $5.322 per gallon.
We crossed into Canada on May 17th and left Mile 0 on June 8th. The road was good! Here’s the two videos that show the road from the border up to Mile 0 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-umPSA72ptA4.htmlsi=pxAnLbqGbfQAkJBU ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-56IbdK3xPOM.htmlsi=PSJuupmzcrl2YbAU
