Currently on the Quantum of the Sea. I would say if you aren’t sure about packing one or two suitcases, definitely pack two. There’s plenty of room to store clothes and suitcases under go under the bed. You won’t use all the space. No need to limit what you can bring as long as it fits your transportation to and from the ship!
Another recommendation has been clothespins for the curtains. With Alaska having extended sunlight during the summer, if you are light sensitive when sleeping, those clothespins will help keep the curtains closed. Eye masks are also good.
I just got back from Alaska yesterday. Just about everything that Sheri recommends is something that you should pack. Among the things I used were both jackets, magnets, water proof luggage tags, a gator instead of a scarf, ski hat, socks, and just about everything else. The waterproof case for the cell phone is a good idea if you are swimming and want to take pics of the kids. When you were your cellphone around your neck it bounces around so I kept mine in my pocket. We were VERY lucky that we had NO rain. The cruise 2 weeks before us had so much for at glacier bay that the couldn't see any of the mountains let alone the glaciers. The rain pants came in handy as a wind breaker. We did a bike ride and when we went downhill the pants were excellent wind breakers. I also used a backpack wherever I went and kept my layers with me at all times. On a lower deck things can be fine temperature wise, but go to the top decks and the wind will make you chilly very quickly. So, having the jackets in my backpack came in handy Great video! Good tips! Thanks!
Gotta go more than once. Every season is different. So much to . Put a cruise tour on the list. Go dog sledding on a glacier, or fly up to the arctic circle. Pricey but absolutely worth it. Bring a camera, binoculars and enjoy the views. The White Pass rail is worth it. Have fun.
After you do a cpl cruises to Alaska and the main tours, there is no reason for leaving the ship after that,my enjoyment on the cruise is to sit on the balcony and take in the scenery, sipping on wine or champagne...Everything is very expensive..Salmon,King Crab,Sea Food on the whole is a complete rip off...$80.00 for lb of King Crab,,i get it here in Florida for $18,00 Lb....Salmon $35.00 Lb...$8.00 in Florida....Some cruise line like Celebrity has binoculars and very heavy robes in The Balcony cabins..I still take my mini camcorder that has incredible digital zoom, uses mini memory cards and very light...
When I cruise in Alaska, I bring my "neck gator" that I use when skiing instead of a scarf. It's extremely thin and lightweight but provides warmth and protection when needed or can be used as a cooling towel around the neck as well for those hot afternoon hikes in the mountain areas. Also, a pair of sunglasses with polarized lenses helps you see more details when cruising through the glacier areas.
As a Pacific Northwest life time resident - it always surprises me how people panic about the rain and how to avoid getting wet. I guess we are just used to it and that's why we are rarely on a 'best dressed list'! Alaska is a beautiful area, it's the PNW on steroids. Great packing ideas.
RIght? I'm going on my first Alaska cruise next week and the one thing I feel fully prepared for is the rain. It's basically like a typical Spring in Portland.
I know some people might not think it's a good idea but I going on a late September Alaskan cruise. I might not get to do all the typical port excursions or see as much wildlife but I got an amazing deal and it's mostly for relaxation and getting away from it all. I plan on making the best of it. Since I'm not the most adventurous, outdoorsy kind of person, this will be an easy way of introducing me to the beauty and grandeur of our largest state. I'm sure I will still see stunning scenery and there is an excellent chance of experiencing the Northern Lights. All your tips here will definitely come in handy!
We’ve got a group of 16 going to Alaska June 4th on Holland America Westerdam! The youngest is 4 and the oldest is 76. We’ll also be celebrating 2 birthdays on this trip. So excited for this adventure! Thanks for all your videos!
We are boarding a plane to Seattle in a few hours to board The Celebrity Solstice on Friday to head North to Alaska, it’s hard to believe it’s finally here, GOD Willing of course, we are so excited!!!
I always bring hook magnets for the walls of the stateroom. They are handy to hold lanyards with the medallion ( on Princess), hats , little purses, etc. they keep the clutter in one place.
I'm a MORE is more packer, so I bring everything, but the kitchen sink...much to my husband's frustration! Haha. If it fits, it gets packed! We MIGHT be going on another Alaska cruise in October...as it's 9 days for $389 each (plus drink package and taxes, so double that each), but we just moved to the Seattle area, so no flight! Yay! Our current hold up is someone to house/dog sit!
Hi Sheri! We are in Ireland and heading to Seattle on May 23rd (sailing to Alaska on the 26th for the first time and can’t wait!) I am a loyal listener to the podcast and viewer here for a long time too so feel really prepared for our trip 😁 Thank you for everything that you do!
One thing I did was make fluffy cowls for myself and my traveling companions. They were large enough that we could wear around our shoulders and when needed around our heads as a warm covering.
We will be cruising to Alaska in August on the Princess Ruby. Great tip about wearing a cap under the hood of your jacket. Will be watching more of your videos. 😊
Just booked an Alaska cruise with Princess from San Francisco sailing in July and im excited. First time to Alaska! I have absolutely no idea what to pack and this vid helped me gain some ideas of what to pack. Love watching your content , Thanks Sheri! :)
We sailed Princess from San Fran last May and it was incredible! Enjoy your trip. We loved it so much, we're going again, but this time from Vancouver and doing the land cruise tour up to Denali at the end 😊
Thank you for all your packing tips. My husband and I are going to Alaska on NCL Encore Ship. We are packed and ready for our cruise. Your packing list tip was definitely helpful. Thank you
Going on Celebrity Solstice in July. My layers tend to be long sleeve flannel shirts with matching t-shirts underneath. And maybe a matching vest. Bought the binoculars from your Amazon store - they are great!
Thanks for this wonderful video! I took your great advice for my cruise last week to Alaska with my 6 month old and it went great! We were on the Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Seas. Great ship, though I think I’d like to go on a smaller one in the future - such long lines to get on the boat!
Yay! Welcome HOME! I'm so happy you got to experience Alaska with the baby, Madeline! If you're not to worried about child care onboard (because Royal is the only line with a nursery for babies), and while the baby is still young, I would suggest a line like Princess or Holland America. They feel more premium, less crowded, and REALLY nice and restful for the grownups!! Then, when they get older, you can go back to a line like Royal Caribbean or Norwegian and they will enjoy all the "kid stuff".
I can second layering. I even went as far as putting on a pair of capri leggings under my pants. When we stopped in Sitka I started out in long pants and a jacket with a toque. Ended the day with my capri leggings and a tshirt with my coat tied around my waist. I packed wind resistant pants (found they were wind resistant by accident!) The ones I have are Kirkland brand from Costco. I have the same Columbia rain layer that MrCTTV has 😂 YES, BRING SUNSCREEN!!
My third cruise to Alaska. First time I didnt bring a warm enough jacket. I purchased a great jasket from a local shop for $25. Says Alaska on it, well made its so warm . Plan B if you forget your. Like to support the local shops. Thank for your great list❤
Coming from Australia in a few weeks so leaving in winter doing our cruise then spending 6 weeks in US so will need three seasons in our 23kg case. Will be wise packing for us.

Great video. Going in September. It's our first cruise to Alaska.
Thank you so much for your helpful video. My friends and I are going to Alaska in September 2023. The information you provided is very helpful as I had no idea what to pack for the cruise. I shared your packing list with my friends and they thought it was helpful as well. I have purchased some of the items you recommended from Amazon. Thanks again ❤
Sherri, we are going in June on Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Seas and so excited this has been on my bucket lists for a long time! I an so glad you gave the information on the door magnets I have been wanting to order some Thanks!
I would advise that if you're from a colder area, like Canada or the northern mid-west, your winter clothes, hats, and gloves are probably overkill for Alaska and will be too hot. Bring a sweater and a thin waterproof shell instead of a winter coat.
My husband and I are traveling to Alaska very soon on Holland America Koningsdam. Your video has helped me in so many ways that I don't know how to THANK YOU! I have ordered several items from your Amazon list and look forward to our adventure.
Carnival Miracle Monday 5/15. I have followed your page for years. That is exactly how I knew what to pack. Thank you. Watching this video today was a reminder and I have everything packed. 😍 Thank you so much for your fabulous cruise tips 😀
Just to let people know and aware depending on you cruise line. Me and my husband just came off of oasis of the seas a few weeks ago. We packed a non surge outlet like the one you are showing in your video and the confiscated ours. I asked them why that it's a non surge. They said they don't allow any kind at all. I always thought as long as it's no surge but I guess you need to find out if the cruise line allows it before you bring one.
Thank you for your great tips. Hubby and I are traveling through Canada starting at Niagra falls then finishing with an Alaskan cruise with Holland and America , Koningsdam. We can’t wait, we’ve never done a cruise before so really anxious as to what we should and shouldn’t take so your tips have really helped us. Thank you 😊
My wife and I take two week cruises with each of us having only a 20 inch carry on and a day pack All the suggestions given are excellent but I do not take a clothing bag. Since our suitcases are unpacked we use them for clothing that needs washing. Cloths pins are useful in the cabin . For insects we use the “Ben’s” insect repellant packets. They are not liquid so don’t need to be with liquids, rather they can be packed right in your carryon suitcase. Layers have been adequate from snowy Ushuaia Argentina to hot weather in Australia to Iceland. Lack of variety in what we pack may be boring to some but traveling light has so many advantages.
Awesome video and very helpful leaving in 13 more days for an inside passage on Norwegian Jewel for Hubbys 71st Birthday with another couple here on the mid East coast. I have picked out just about everything you mentioned for Hubby and I and can’t wait. I did this trip plus 14 more days down to the Hawaiian islands but I just remarried 4 years ago and this will be my Kentucky Gentleman’s first trip to Alaska.
Going on my 1st Alaska cruise in August ☺ we live 30 minutes away from Seattle so we're used to the scenery being from the PNW and all, but still... can't wait to cruise this summer !!
Thank you for the tips, I’m going to Alaska cruise on June 2023. And I live at a tropical climate son I know nothing about cold weather 😅 So thank you very much 🙏🏼
We are going on our first cruise in July! Alaska is the destination! Loving your videos and podcasts. What is the best excursion for seeing wildlife in Ketchikan $225 or under?
Going in 10 weeks. We have been looking forward to this for a while. Previous Alaska trip was canceled due to the pandemic. Looking forward to getting on this boat.😆😆😆
Thank you for this info. Will be sailing on Ovation of the SEA on sept. 1 with several family members and friends. My new husband has never been on a cruise unless you count going to Viet Nam with hundreds of other men. I thought my cruising days were over. I'm very eager to go on this one with people I love.
