The Dalton Highway is the gateway to the Arctic Circle in Alaska, and also happens to be one of the most dangerous, and remote stretches of road in the world. Known locally as the haul road, made famous by the Discovery Channel’s Ice Road truckers, this 414 mile stretch of road was built for commercial trucks to build, manage and maintain operations on the Alaska Pipeline. Driving the Dalton Highway comes with its fair share of danger but with a little caution and proper planning can be one incredible adventure that comes with a serious set of bragging rights! Oh man, we wondered if the full drive would have been worth it! So glad you enjoyed it! We were a little short on time when we made the trip, but are definitely thinking if we ever head back to AK we will go all the way!

I’ve got a couple thousand pictures from working along here for 15 years. Some even taken a the same spot but different seasons. I did over a couple hundred thousand miles on the road. When I had to go to a site it didn’t matter what the weather was because if what I maintained didn’t work the oil didn’t flow. I always tell people the best views are between Coldfoot and Atigun Pass.

Hi friends. What a cool area. Now to be able to say you drove the Dalton Highway (maybe without the ice) is pretty cool. Cool that you had a bit of a wolf encounter. Awesome that you made it to the Arctic Circle. "I think we need to turn around." Boy we've said that a couple of times. :) "No camping on the runway." LOL Thanks for taking us along.

Have fun. I’m actually looking to leave part time after 42 years here. 15 of it working along the Dalton. One of the things I used to see the most was tourist hauling ass with and getting flats. Most flats I have seen were from rocks flying under your vehicle and hitting the side of another tire. I think in all the years I only changed a half dozen tires, but these where heavy duty tires.

That is not permafrost it’s calcium that they apply to help harden the road.

Hello fellow Dalton Highway Travelers! And like Damon mentioned, you should of done the entire drive. But I know time doesn't always allow that. We drove the Dalton the last 4 days of June 2017 all the way to Deadhorse and back tent camping at Marion Creek, Just north of Coldfoot, and Galbrith Lake, just north of the Brooks Range. Check out our two Dalton Highway videos, along with the rest. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jQoumZP39Jk.html The mosquitoes must of been down the year we visited, they did not seem to bad, and we were tent camping! When was your trip ?
