It's been more than a year since my friend is missing. And I receive a lot of comments asking about updates. Vladimir is still missing. We haven't heard from him since then, and there are no updates from the authorities. However, we haven't lost hope that we will find him, so the search continues... Crave Life Just ran into your channel. with how crazy life is right now with COVID-19 seeing this saddens me immensely. I just can’t stand hearing stories like this, it makes me sad. I was wondering you guys have any updates on your friend yet ? I seen your last update was two months ago and I hope you guys find him at least for some closure ! All of you are in my prayers.
Crave Life Thank you I appreciate that. I do deliveries for a living ( Uber eats )not willing to have anybody in my vehicle right now. so I’m not driving anybody around, but what you do is very important ! you as well please stay safe and stay healthy ! the world needs more people like you in it (not everybody is willing to go into the Alaskan wilderness to try to find a friend ) if it was one of my friends or family. I would be right up there with you.
A lot of the comments commend you for being a super friend, and I agree you are a great person! I had a friend like you, but she passed , too young at 47 , but even my family wouldn’t do what you are doing! Keep up the good work. The world needs more people just like you!
I have always wanted to live out in the woods of Alaska. But after watching this I noticed it takes a very strong person. And it takes a special kind of person to live in all that snow. I'm not that person. I hope you found him either way. You truly are a great friend
Wow, the minute I didnt see smoke I would have went in. You guys... its freezing outside and his only source of heat is the softwood around him. He will have that fire going nonstop on any day below 0. I pray now for this man.
This makes my heart heavy.......just not knowing if your friend is okay and where he is. I can't imagine the emptiness and helplessness you must feel. God bless.
I am so worried for your friend. I was born and raised in Alaska and it will literally kill you if you are unprepared. God bless you and him, I hope he is found safe. I am saying a prayer for him.
I flew the bush in the interior of Alaska commercially for ten years and. believe it or not. there are people who really decide to go into the bush and die. As crazy as it sounds.
I have worked in the north, out on the ice back in the 80's, in the late 90's early 2000's in the deep bush off road and up stream many miles for a hatchery... I know how hard it is to live off the land. Whenever my cat ( yes i took my russian blue everywhere with me, even polar bear hunting) and i would get a air package it was always like christmas! Especially loved buffalo steaks! Your a good friend! Dont forget hooks, fly line, fishing line and all that, whatever might be relevant to his area...
@@jquest43 i found my cat ( smokey) was far better at letting me know when bears were around. She would begin throwing her voice around the campsite when the bear(s) were a mile away. My trained hunting dog didn't make a peep until the bear/ cougar was 15 meters from killing us! A cat always has to be on its game 24/7. Smokey would stand on the front of my canoe and dive in whenever she saw steelhead, salmon or artic char in the water! I miss her very much! Now i have a male named peanut. Hes a loaf of a kitty, at least 27lbs. Don't let his size fool you... He eats adult racoons and mink for breakfast! Some days i will find two or three adult racoons heads in my yard. My neighbors call my yard the dead zone...
Hello! You are absolutely right! It is better to notify someone about your location, or stay in touch. The best option is not to go hiking to such remote areas in the winter.
You guys are AWESOME for this! I would like to , with respect and love, make two suggestions for future possible endeavors.....1. fill 5 buckets of food....one for each week of the month plus one for good measure, also a few packs of baby wipes to wipe the heinee, and last, take a bullhorn with you for at least somewhat of loud communication between you and the guy in the cabin. I'm going to research if there any bullhorns that are louder than a jets engine. Thank you so much for being a caring human being! You guys rock!
At 3:59 into this (and having watched Part I) this has Chris McCandless 2.0 written all over it. I hope I’m wrong. My concerns: “he wouldn’t listen to anyone”, “he didn’t even take a gun”, “I think his phone is turned off” & lastly “he has kind of a weird diet but I sort of know what he eats”..... this has urban neo-bohemian with next to zero bush skills getting in trouble practically plastered across the ice. I study & practice survival as a hobby & have been a prepper for 11 years. Please don’t misinterpret my remarks. I am not victim shaming. But as mentioned I study this stuff and between international eco-tourism and too many unskilled neophytes reading “Strayed” “Alone in the Wilderness “ and “Into the Wild” and failing to train locally, failing to learn to read weather, thermo regulate in hypothermic temps, failing to learn food and water harvesting and probably most dangerous: failing to know their capabilities and limits...and another set of parents get a knock on the door that devastates their remaining days. I hope the guy is alive but my discernment says he is not. If I am wrong and he is alive I will leave this up, unedited, in the hope that it serves to encourage newer wilderness enthusiasts to crawl before you walk and walk before you run. But then, NEVER run 😉 The outdoors will be there. It’s our responsibility to make sure that after an epic experience, we are. ❤️
If you won't victim shame then I will. Both this guy and McCandless were fools, pure and simple. Maybe nice fools but fools nonetheless. This ain't a hike on the PCT, it's survival against some of the worst that nature can dish out, so you must approach it differently or you're dead. And rightfully so. Not being heartless, only being real, and reality isn't always nice.
You are a great friend. You respected his wish to be alone, you gave him enough time and you went there when he had taken long enough a break from the world. You did your part, the rest is up to Nature and your friend's own will and discernment. Anyone who goes to the middle of nowhere like he did, knows what they are up to. You tried. Nothing else you need to do.
Your awesome dude! But we are all entitled to our own choices and free will. We must respect this and you did. I really hope I find a part two to this story. Either way thanks for your efforts God bless
All alone, limited provisions, dead of winter, no gun and where would he get wood for a fire? We always carry a Sat Phone and we don’t go anywhere that off the beaten path. Was he trying to keep something out? Why close the doors and windows up? From the amount of supplies left in the cabin, it looks like he cut out a while ago. Maybe he doesn’t want to be found, but that would be a crude thing to do to a good friend like yourself. Very dangerous situation.
Alaska is no place to go unprepared for the country. It's so VAST and even these days relatively unpopulated. The bucket drops are a great idea. Have to file that trick away. I wouldn't go out that far into the bush without a rifle, ammo, and PLB.
As a former member of SAR. I noticed you left out several vital items someone could find useful in the event of an emergency: Matches or lighter, First Aid Kit, Can Opener, Hand mirror, extra warm socks, warm gloves & cap. I pray you find him alive under those conditions.
My list would include a lot of dried foods like turnips, rice, fruits, corn and such with cans of tuna. High calorie nutritious food. Dehydrated foods is small & pack more food into buckets. Add a couple of lighters or matches, a solar light, a cell phone & a first aid kit.
Either that, or his psychotic thinking was so disorganized that he really thought he could live indefinitely on a few pounds of oatmeal and no communications. The boarded up doors is an indication of just how bad off this guy's mind was. Just on the basis of his proposal, real friends could have called the cops and run an involuntary psych eval. The guy could have sit out the next few months as an in-patient. If I ever announce suicidal plans, I hope I have friends good enough to stop me, even if they have to headlock me to do it.
Ur a great friend an I'm sure he knows that. Sorry for your loss. I can't imagine any other outcome....still he seemed to have a plan..no one but him an god knows what it was..... Really ur just a great friend.... Thank you....
Very sweet of u to try and find him and care for him. Can u tell us what happened. Im hoping he wasn't in emotional distress and does not want to be found. My prayers are with him and you as well. Be safe out there.
Why no skis on your plane so you can land? Why bring things like bagels that will last a few days? One Homer bucket will hold probably 25 pounds of rice or beans. As an Alaskan, this video makes little sense. I remember seeing the flyer of the missing guy, so I don't know how to reconcile that with the fact the "rescuer" seems to have no clue what he is doing.
I just found you blessings for you watching you help me forget about the earthquakes in my island Puerto Rico is going crazy down there thanks praying the Lord to keep every one safe and hopping you find him alive hugs
Thank you for showing us all what it means to love someone , that's what Jesus Christ would have us do . May your life be truly blessed , may you find true joy and fulfillment and may you make it back to God when this life is over . So wonderful to witness this .
Jesus would not have waited 5 months and He would have made sure the rescuers were actively looking. Use discernment. That suspenseful music is inappropriate and it seems to be staged. This guy is not sincere. So many other red flags that I will leave you to find for yourself
@@lunemiel786 It's so easy to quarterback from an armchair , isn't it ? When someone goes off and let's you know prior, that they want time alone , when you make efforts to drop off groceries once you find their phone's no longer pinging etc, you have made an effort (at your own PERSONAL cost ). Discernment is for the mind enlightened by a committed and deep walk with the Holy Spirit , much though the word may be bandied about by many who simply have no clue by experience - what that word really means . Such enlightened minds do not find it necessary to flippantly cast aspersion on others , for they know such careless comportment immediately dampens the glow of the Holy Spirit's fire within.....
Did you ever go see if all the footprints around the cabin were even his? Was it boarded up like he planned on leaving? Could the Moose hunter have shot him to hide that he was poaching?
My dad use to live in Big Lake. Foolish to hike in that region without ample provisions, gun & ammo. Last time winter I was there, got down to 35 below and colder in the bush!
H. Carl Sperr 3rd Why didn’t you just take a snowmobile there in the first place with supplies if you’re really concerned about your friend or is it more important to make this video? My priority would be to get to my friend!
I don't know if u ever found your friend, I hope so, but should this tragic event ever happen again, or should you need to drop a survival package in the future, may be it would be prudent to mark on each bucket "1of3" - "2of3" - "3of3" so there's no confusion concerning whats been dropped, or wasted time searching for things that may not be there. Just a thought. Again, I am sorry for this horrendous circumstance.
Oy, I'm so incredibly sorry that Vlad has not been found. I'm sure bears will be loving your kielbasa and pelmeni come spring, nothing like some slav yumms after a good hibernation ☺
Not too sure how tomatoes and bananas would survive the drop, but it's a valiant effort all the same. I know if I was living on oatmeal and found a bucket of goodies on my doorstep, I'd cry like hell.
14:12 I can see a quick glimpse of tracks from snowmachime or quad. Two side by side maybe even xcountry skis but look about 3’ apart behind plane on ground
thinkin outloud they saw him in late November if I’m not mistaken🤷♂️. He probably doesn’t want to be found or hiked out moved on and didn’t let anyone know. Or the hella angels picked him up hitchhiking and are forcing him to trim weed somewhere remote . That actually happened to a guy. He worked for them for years before running away.
For any that don’t understand a persons desire to live remotely might consider some of us just don’t like the interaction with people of today.....we prefer to choose wildlife as our company and off grid living without bs....I don’t miss the urbanization
It is REAL he was in the Alaska and Washington newspapers. Vladimir kostenko. Alaska troopers were notified and they did some searches. The guy said he was on a spiritual quest and refused take a gun with him. Something happened on his walk out 14 miles or he doesn't want to be found as he was known to be a loner. Still missing a year later. They did all they could with food and searches.
Some people have absolutely NO One to look for them, this guy was blessed with people who care enough to look for him and what does he do? Ignore their advice to get the proper supplies
It was his choice. Let’s all pay more attention to our family and close friends. And, please do not reject their help. We all need to be nicer to each other.
@@CraveLife There is NOTHING in my comment t6hat even remotely implies that it WASN'T his choice and if you had read my comment correctly you would clearly understand that it was about some people having no one in their lives while others take the people in their lives for granted. like this guy did. If you are intelligent enough to fly a plane, then you should be intelligent enough to read a RU-vid comment correctly. Now BACK-OFF! I am not interested in dealing with your feelings of guilt.
X-MISMA-X I didn’t mean anything you wrote. I just wanted to give advice to other people. You wrote that people ignore advice, and that’s why I wrote that we need to be more attentive to each other. Apologies if I got it wrong
Long rope, fly in a circle around the bucket as it is lowered. The bucket will descend along a cone-shaped path until it is, at best, nearly stationary at the bottom of the cone with the airplane circling around the rim. descend slowly. Old missionary resupply trick. Nate Saint, if I remember right. A spool of hay bailing twine should do it.... cheap, and plenty long. Just cut the line at the drop point. Sleep well tonight. You (he) will need you strong and rested if he is alive. He does not need the dregs of your exhaustion. BTDT
Thank you for your comment! Unfortunately, we still do not have any information! You can read more here:www.adn.com/alaska-life/2019/10/15/a-man-walked-into-a-wild-corner-of-hatcher-pass-last-year-on-a-spiritual-quest-he-never-came-out/
daniel watson I lived on peanut butter and jelly and water once for 20 days in northern MT. In the winter. I lost 10 lbs but survived. That was in 1981. Did it one other time to this day I hate it. But it's cheap, will keep well, and you will live.
@@Peterbilt359 Yep, there are worse things like pemmican or nothing. My wish list would be pbj, white bread, smoked sausages, meat sticks, Canned food. All cheap and all would survive the drop.
@@kevculmstock1 Sadly the moose was wasted because it could not be preserved. You can kill anything with a 22lr but it is far from ideal in the wilds of Alaska.
Even growing up in central British Columbia and not so rural we were taught a lot about winter safety, keeping emergency items in case of car accident or such. Too bad there wasn't a lake there you could land on. How far would it be with a dog team? Haha, when you mentioned the snow machine I had to laugh at myself for not thinking of that.
You mention a few fell into the lake a while back. A thing to note is any hiker most important thing is away bring a polyester heavy duty jacket with you Forget the fashion polyester jacket that sew in cotton between Useless wet. That too as a cotton shirt will soak in water and can't be dried even if you squese out the water. Many are never found even in 50 dg. At night. As cotton is called deadman clothes. If it rain or you fall in water or even in humid hike your sweat will not dry. And cotton wet is the same material use in a evaporative cooler. 10-20 dg cooler. Basically it get wet. You will get Hypothermia in a few hour and get confused and excited and lost. Later huge head ache, same as altitude sickness .all you Care about is sleeping. That why they are never found. Sleeping in some bush off the trail. But the good part of this is it's the easy way out . No pain. To survive is to suffer. Eskimo wear animal skins for a reason wet it still keep your body heat..plain one layer polyester jacket without sew holes will keep your body heat even wet. A plastic canvas will do the same. Cotton wet gives 0 protection. In fact to take it off is warmer. Get a plastic tarp and a pure polyester jacket in your emergency kit and a clean spare clothes in a water proof bag if the hike get into the 60s a night.
Wow didn't realized wet you can get it even in the 80S dg. Overview. Hypothermia is a medical emergency that occurs when your body loses heat faster than it can produce heat, causing a dangerously low body temperature. Normal body temperature is around 98.6 F (37 C). Hypothermia (hi-poe-THUR-me-uh) occurs as your body temperature falls below 95 F (35 C). When your body temperature drops, your heart, nervous system and other organs can't work normally. Left untreated, hypothermia can eventually lead to complete failure of your heart and respiratory system and eventually to death. Hypothermia is often caused by exposure to cold weather or immersion in cold water. Primary treatments for hypothermia are methods to warm the body back to a normal temperature. Symptoms Shivering is likely the first thing you'll notice as the temperature starts to drop because it's your body's automatic defense against cold temperature - an attempt to warm itself. Signs and symptoms of hypothermia include: Shivering Slurred speech or mumbling Slow, shallow breathing Weak pulse Clumsiness or lack of coordination Drowsiness or very low energy Confusion or memory loss Loss of consciousness Bright red, cold skin (in infants) Someone with hypothermia usually isn't aware of his or her condition because the symptoms often begin gradually. Also, the confused thinking associated with hypothermia prevents self-awareness. The confused thinking can also lead to risk-taking behavior.
Yea, we don't even have fur. I got altitude sickness of all the places in a Japan at mountain Fuji , way up and so cold . I gave up and when in the bus to sleep. Hangover, head ache and every movement brought pain. And so disoriented I couldn't remember. I taught I when up in the cable car and lookout . But they said I when back to the bus to sleep. LOL
Sorry. A bit boring. And no answer as to what happened to the hiker; but your Description: "Alaska Hike gone Horribly Wrong. How do you know it went horribly wrong?" Well, at least we got to see some Alaska land...
@@helenholt1161 I don't think so. He made three videos afterwards, one involving state trooper, where he looks for the guy. But it doesn't seem like they ever found what happened to him, other than that he left the cabin at some point.
Without enough snow on the ground, looks like those buckets of food would explode on impact, especially from a plane. The ground is froze and the buckets are plastic.
The guy living in the cabin is OBVIOUSLY not in trouble or in an emergency situation. He has food all around him!! Moose, rabbit, fox, fish, etc. All the things that natural environment provides. If he needed help, he would have left a message with wood in the white snow. Duh! Melodrama Man.
My hell! He can survive if he could find that cabin! Sounds like he wanted to be left alone! Maybe his family annoyed him so he went where noone could reach him! Adults make choices! Dumb thing- no weapon and no coffee!😵
Bless you. Your the best mate anyone can have. An angel. Although I’m from Wales I really appreciate how difficult those surroundings are. You did your best. God bless you & your friend. RgY TLv ✌️👍🏴
Hello sir, did you ever locate your friend? Hopefully things worked out! Alaska is extreme especially in winter, all the best for you and him,👍I follow a RU-vid channel, call Randy west, his shows about hundreds of people that vanished in mostly American national Parks, & hikers in general that for some reason shows unexplained disapearences, unfortunately your friend was featured in his volume 27 of the channel, hopefully you have some kind of closer, all the best to you.
Crave Life, the video was posted a while back. Have you heard anything on your friend Vladamir? Considering the predator population there, even going in with a rifle wouldn't guarantee anything. I'm hoping and praying, please let your viewers know if we can do anything or you have news. In the meantime you have all our support and prayers. Pastor Pete
@@CraveLife If the cynics of the world would employ the energy they expend in negativity for more suitable pursuits, the world would be a much better place.
Given the situation, I would err on the side of hope for his friend. For this human being that needs help. However. There are some, like this 'Jeff Squire', who don't have the compassion or foresight to realize his words do not help anyone. Nor does he realize his opinions are better off kept to himself.
@@CraveLife Oh no, that's sad, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that wherever he is that he is safe, and well. Please let me know when you find him. Thankyou
