ALASKA: SNEAKY DENALI AND CONTINUING THE QUEST WITH LJMJ TO SEE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS S2 || Ep28

We finally get a break in the clouds and take advantage of the sun by heading up to Hatcher’s Pass. The drive through the mountains is spectacular and we quickly find the perfect spot for blueberry picking!
As we arrive at the summit, we are surprised by paragliders practicing taking off with their instructor. The multicolored chutes just add to the beauty of the green, lush mountains of Alaska!
Independence Mine was our next stop and one of our favorite historical landmarks to explore so far. The decommissioned gold mine was left just as it stands and gives such a story of the families who lived there together and created this fascinating mining community.
We say goodbye to our friends from Anchorage and this amazing site on the Knik River in Butte, Alaska.
We separate once again with Nathan and Marissa from / lessjunkmorejourney , and head to see if Denali will peak out of the clouds for a special photo that Corey wants to get with our GMC Denali Sierra.
We check out Denali National Park, walk through the Visitor Center, and meet up with the friends we met in Homer, Alaska, / 13roads and / alltheplacestogo .
Fairbanks was the perfect stop to restock and then we head to meet back up with Nathan and Marissa at Quartz Lake to try to catch the Northern Lights before heading to Tok and prepare to leave Alaska!

Sorry for the delay in posting, guys. We flew home to Maine for a month for work and to see family since it had been almost 18 months since we had been back. We ended up taking on some other projects while we were there and needed to focus on those as RU-vid doesn’t quite pay the bills yet!😉 We are back and will be keeping up with a regular posting schedule again. Thanks so much for your patience and for all of those who have written to check in and make sure we were ok! We appreciate your support more than we can say.

So jealous of you. I've been wanting to do an Alaskan trip for a while. You have some terrific pictures and video. It's a shame you couldn't see the northern lights while you were there. I got outside every time there were reports of a possible show but here in MI on every occasion there was heavy overcast.

I don't have the privilege to travel with my family so I have to say it is a pleasure to watch your adventures! My wife and I have two daughters as well and your family reminds me very much of mine. So I vicariously live through your travels. Hope that doesn't sound weird...ha! 😂 Hopefully YT will completely pay the bills soon! (Speaking it!)

My family lived in Juneau Ak. in 1985 with small kids! 100 inches of rain/snow was the norm! Gorgeous place, but you have to love winter, hunting & fishing!! Been in the N.W. for 50 yrs.! Our first house was up in the foothills and there was takeoff/landing for hang gliders. My daughter, Brittany and I used to love taking a lunch up there and sitting on the hill watching. On an average day there were at least 6 in the air, it was an awesome way to spend an afternoon. Love *NotNaked 😂🤣😂 Not sure I will let my wife leave Alaska without seeing the Northern Lights, but we also have an easy drive North to Canada also and hope to go up one year to see the polar bears.

I had thought of the “Denali-Denali” photo when I saw/registered that your truck was a Denali so I back you on the photo!! It was a natural concept! Sorry you missed the Northern Lights while in Alaska, that would be so cool. When we lived west of Edmonton AB we saw AND heard then often because we were on an acreage so we didn’t have any light pollution. Looking forward to your photos because mine did not turn out even marginally ok. My daughter says Iceland is the best place to see them.

Jeff Spencer we should have loved to have had solar in Alaska, even with all the rain! We had a portable generator and we drove so much that our truck would charge both of our rig batteries. Nice Video guys, I'm planning my trip to Alaska and your info helps. Nice drone work too. I think you'd like the Mavic2Zoom, for those close-up shots of animals without getting so close to them. They say the weather turns there in mid Sept, ruining chance of clear skies.

On one of our trips to Alaska we took the 8 hour bus ride to Wonder Lake. Overcast and raining when we got there and the Mosquitoes were unbearable when we got off the bus. I have never seen that many mosquitoes ever. Interesting ride but ultimately disappointing.

Hello ! What a great trip ! This was just awesome to see Denali whit your rig 🤪 Great drone shot’s and those paragliding ...👍👍👍 You are inspiring would love to go and spent 2 months there . I have 4 questions about camping ...did you stay in campgrounds whit 3 services or did you camp anywhere you could ? Are the campground expensive ? Is there also a lot of big hills ? And finally do you have any advice to give for traveling whit a camping trailer ? Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful open space ATB Hélène et Serge 💑 👍😉🏔🎥

Hélène et Serge thank you , it really was a great trip! I hope you make it there your self one day! We didn’t stay in campgrounds , only one night. I don’t know how much the average full hookup site would be but I would guess $60 . It’s really RV friendly so it’s easy to dry camp IMO. There are definitely hills in certain areas, but not terrible. My best advice is don’t drive fast😃

It's Hatcher Pass, not Hatcher's (common mistake). My husband and I had our wedding ceremony on one of the switchbacks heading up to the mine in March of 2007 when it was -15! There is actually a competition fly in in Valdez every spring where bush pilots compete doing short take offs and landings. You should check that out. March and April are the best times to see Denali - historically less cloud cover. I live in Delta Junction - isn't my hometown gorgeous? I wish I'd known you were coming through. I could possibly have helped you with those northern lights. I'm an aurora photographer and love showing folks our area and how to see the lights. Message me if you have plans to come back and want to see them! I can help, seriously! And you drove right by my house - I live off the Alaska Highway ;)

Sorry about the name! We try our best... -15 that’s some dedication 💪 we do want to see Alaska in the winter as well. That’s the worst part about being behind on RU-vid, the messages we get from people like you in the area 😕 we would have loved to meet you! That would definitely be a cool competition to see with the planes! Thanks for watching🙏

Absolutely love your videos and only found them and working our way through them in Australia. Only comment and I hope you don’t take offence but I hope the amount of conversation gets less as we go along. Bit too much repetitive and unnecessary commentary and rambling. Apart from that great videos. By the way I do just fast forward through the long narrative

Don't laugh about washing the rig. In Alaska they use calcium chloride to keep dust down on the roads and it gets caked on the rig. If you don't pressure wash it it will eat the rig, just like New England salt in the winter. We tried to keep our rig washed at different times in Alaska and then really pressure washed it good at a campground on the Cassiar in BC.

Dale Marshall your definitely right about getting stuff off so it doesn’t start eating it😱 I was more referring to the fact I knew the conditions of the road between tok and white horse. I knew it would be instantly covered again. I spent about 6 hrs straight with a pressure washer when we got back to the 48. Ran through a couple tanks of gas😃 that’s what I told people in Maine though your not just washing it so it looks good, you’re washing it to get the chemicals off after a storm.

What kind of fuel economy do you get?
@FindingOurSomeday
@FindingOurSomeday 8 месяцев назад
We plan on 10 MPG , it’s less in the mountains and in wind but more on flat ground, but in the end it averages 10 MPG . That’s obviously towing numbers, never really pay close attention to regular driving but probably the average is 18 MPG, I’ve seen up to 25 MPG on the highway.

You need help now . How many times are you going to wash the truck and trailer furthermore buy your own hose

You need a hug, now😂 I washed my truck and trailer 2 times in 2.5 months while up in Canada and Alaska. Just because you don’t care about your stuff doesn’t mean that’s how everyone feels.

You should plug Walmart ten more times. You act like there isn’t any other stores, but Walmart.
@FindingOurSomeday
@FindingOurSomeday 5 лет назад
Mike Miller when we are on the move Walmart works well for us. They are consistent across the country so we know exactly what to expect and can plan better. We shop at other stores too but yes Walmart works well for us. Not plugging anything , just sharing what we’re doing😃
@mikemiller9119
@mikemiller9119 5 лет назад
Finding Our Someday what other stores do you shop at? I haven’t heard you mention any but Walmart. Walmart is a leach on every small community and money doesn’t go back to the local economy. Try to shop local when you travel. It will help all of us that like to RV and will help local businesses. Once we help local businesses, they will cater for RVers and we will have a much easier time traveling.

Mike Miller there’s a lot we do that you don’t see, we shop at plenty of local stores...Not sure why you’re taking your vendetta against Walmart out on us ? I already explained why Walmart works for us when we’re moving around . They have the toiletries we’re used to, the pellets I like, DEF fluid, water we like, and obviously the food we’re used to and prices that are always the same. There’s something to be said about consistency when everything is constantly changing around us. So for instance, we’re traveling through Fairbanks in this episode. We’re only there a few hrs , the rig is attached, and I don’t know the area.... What am I going to do drive around to 5 different stores in tiny parking lots increasing the chance of hitting something, as well as all the extra tire scrubbing for making tight turns, not to mention the extra stress and time. We were about leave Alaska and drive down the Casiar through Canada with almost no stores. So yes, we stopped by a Walmart to restock. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Finding Our Someday I do not have a “vendetta” against Walmart. If you did some homework on Walmart and see how it really affects our country negatively, you would understand where I’m coming from. I also tell everyone I see on RU-vid that has an audience. You are encouraging other people to do as you are doing, by claiming it on youtube many times. I travel like crazy and don’t have any issues getting my trailer that is much longer than yours into smaller parking lots. The amount of spaces might change, the the actual travel lane sizes are typically required to be a minimum size. You’ll do as you wish to do. It would be great if you supported your local communities. Because once Walmart kicks all RVs out of their parking lots, don’t think the locals are going to let you park in theirs when you don’t support their communities. I stopped shopping at Walmart 30 years ago. I don’t have a problem finding what I need easily at other stores. Most of the time, I get better quality at local stores than you can get at Walmart.
@FindingOurSomeday
@FindingOurSomeday 5 лет назад
Mike Miller You have a vendetta, you just defined it.... unless you’re shopping at corner stores for your every need you are not supporting a local community . Any grocery store in any community is part of a chain owned by something bigger (yes there are some exceptions) . Relax, worry about something you can control. Did you watch the whole vlog? If so I must really stink at editing if that’s what you came away with... take care.
