We test out our Alaskan Chainsaw Mill and cut beams for the wood shed. We get one step closer to finishing the project once we fixate the rafters and lay down some metal roofing to keep our firewood dry.

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ru-vid.comUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

One more project practically finished, how satisfying. I saw this this technique of burning the end of your logs on My Self Reliance, it's a very old way of preserving wood called Shou Sugi Ban. Love your videos.

You guys are the best ! What a beautiful job ! I am of an age that though I enjoy watching you work , I always worry that you will hurt your back or fall off the ladder or trip or any of a hundred other scenarios that my family and friends worried about me back in the day when I was working. This project turned out so well it occurred to me that you could easily put an addition on the house that had a bee room that was just a little warmer than outside in winter. Continued success! Feel free to cancel your gym membership !

Thanks for the inspiration for our own woodshed! We used the cut offs from the sawmill for the siding, and were able to salvage some metal roof from a hail damage barn.

Looks like a nice snow shoveling hobby you build yourself there. Saltbox roof would've been not much harder to build, but would likely save you days of work every single winter. Roof pitch is the first thing you should think about when you build up north.

a little trick I learned with the metal sheeting is to stack the sheets together, clamp them with a vise grip. mark the top sheet with a straight edge and pencil and drill holes where the screws are to go. keeps all the screws in nice straight lines for a fence or wall sheeting. good luck with everything your doing , really enjoying the videos.

The first bike I ever rode was a Husqvarna 2 stroke. In a quarry, my friends helped me up on it. (I couldn't touch the ground) I took off. My friends looked at each other and went running after me. I admit I dropped it when I stopped and, my leg almost gave out. So awesome.

I did a project with a chainsaw mill this spring and it took me about the same, roughly an hour to mill a beam. What made it go a lot faster was cutting from bigger logs, once you square up the cant every cut gives you a finished piece. Looks really good!

As one grows older, you learn wisdom (hopefully). Creosote treated wood really was a thing until folks became more aware of carcinogens. You two should be proud of that building, it is impressive because firewood is LIFE for those of us that depend on it to keep us alive. I love the videos and certainly wish I was a bit younger to dare move to Alaska myself. Much love as always!❤

Eric: Nice work with the chainsaw mill.. stain (weather proof) the wood posts...before the 3 wall siding goes in :) Eric (edited from earlier year comment): add some lawn rotating Sprinklers to your outdoor veggie garden (that can spread the water evenly using your water pump)... on the topic of root cellar.. my mother got some elastic roll (single color white) and attached it (nailed it to either side of wooden posts) in the indoor pantry for the jars from tipping over the shelve.. so its an idea..simple yet efficient. stay safe.. GOD BLESS the both of you. :)
