What a difference in the weather from Anchorage to Wasilla. We have only seen the sun a few days this month. Rain every day. My garden is doing just OK. Usually, this time of the year, I've already harvested a few things. The only thing i have gotten out of the garden is Bocchoy and lettuce. I have a lot of flowering and broccoli starting.a a few raspberries and strawberries, but I'm only getting enough to pic one off here and there. Oh ya, my herbs are doing great. I got my first Nestershim flowers this week I just got back into town. I will send out that video camera to you this week. I haven't forgotten
Woohoo can't beat the price of that tiller! And that's a big serious tiller! Mine is like it's little brother 😅 Garden is looking great ma'am! It's been a much wetter year for us to up in AK. Take care and God bless!
Your garden looks great!! I had a tiller years ago and it saved my back. You will be busy, it was good therapy for me. You have a great vision and Aaron enjoys doing anything that makes you happy. A great team.
Yeah I went through all the ideas. I use lots of cardboard in my garden. It’s just rained so much I thought ok cover crop and when I get my wood chips I’ll do cardboard and wood chips next. Hope others read your comments it’s great!
@@modernhomesteadalaska I’m here in Alaska, actually Willow just down the road, I’m on a lake and fixing to be off grid right here, I say that because I take care of my mother and have alone for many years, so my garden hasn’t thrived the way it could if i didn’t have to be by moms side all the time, you guys keep me Grounded as I’m really getting beat up and down lol, I love your channel
Your garden looks awesome. And now I understand how much work takes. My pak choy and spinach bolts so fast I have to harvest a lot at once 😊 Happy gardening 🧑🏻🌾
Hi Jessica and sweet family! Your garden looks great. Nice roto tiller, a rear tube is easier to use than front tube tiller. I had a snapper frontline tiller for years, that was before the rear tine ones came out. I go to my grandmother’s to get elderberries from her bushes. Lupine flowers are beautiful, just a sea of purple. Look how far you both have come. It feels good looking around and seeing the labors of your hard work. I hope you all have a blessed week!
Thank you. I had not even thought the tiller was on the back until you said it. That’s so true now that I realize it. The lupine is one of my favorites for sure. Thank you friend we work hard but just want to be out fishing!
You and Aaron right reminded me so much of my husband and I especially hate when Aaron said whatever’s in my wife’s head my husband used to say why do your projects cause me so much work I have osteoarthritis and can’t do it by myself he had three disc bone to bone in his back and he couldn’t do much more than I could I love flowers and outside in heat when he gets off work he wants to come lay down on the couch and recover from the day so you can imagine I don’t have near what you do but I’m so thankful that he worked that works he did when he should’ve been in bed with his back and he wouldn’t listen to the doctor any work work work anyway
Lol Aaron honestly loves to see my dreams come true. He is so good about that. It’s quite a blessing to have a man who loves to make his wife happy. Thank you for sharing friend!
Your garden is looking great! So nice to get a tiller for it also. The elderberry section is so nice. I have one elderberry plant that is smaller than yours, but it was a cutting with a few tiny leaves. However, it has rained quite a bit since I got it the first part of June. Now it is really coming along. Yes, it loves the rain. We are about to have several hot days here in Oklahoma, so I will be watering my little baby. Love your flower pots, so pretty! God bless you all.
Lupin is in the legume family. You soak overnight then boil for an hour then use in recipes stews, salads, burgers and ground up into hummus. Can also be made into flour for cakes and pancakes.
I've tried to grow elderberries in my garden with zero success yet they grow wild here all over the place near water and ditches - they like a lot of water! I only recently learned that lupin flour (comes up a lot in keto world) is actually made from the lupin seeds if I remember correctly. If I wanted some though I'd order it from amazon just like I get my organic dried elderberries for making syrup lol... some things just aren't worth the effort! Your garden is looking amazing and all that extra light along with the rain is working wonders! ❤
The garden is coming along even with all the rain. The grounds around you driveway are starting to look so nice as well. It's a slow process to build a homestead, but your moving right along.
I have missed you ! Second eye surgery and watching videos don’t mix! But I have everything saved and I am on a binge!! Garden looks great. What is the cover crop that you are putting in the beds? I do not envy you with picking all the grass out of the tomatoes. Until we visit again. ❤ Momma G
No the berries are from a neighbor and there are so many wild ones else wear. Doesn’t mean we can’t get a bear they just have not had any around my land in over 20 years.
I hear your chickens in the background and I recognized one of them just laid an egg that’s the sound they make. What kind of chickens do you have? What breed. I am a new chicken owner. My chickens are 16 weeks and I am anxiously waiting for eggs and I have one rooster who has a Rhode Island red. I have a gold laced wyndotte, a black sex link, an Easter Egger, an olive Egger, an americana , a buff orpington, and a cream leg bar.
@@heatherhepler9736 ... not the same as what? I have a bag of Lupin flour in my pantry that is a keto diet substitute for traditional grain-derived flour. I've used it with almond flour, but it's too earthy tasting on its own.
What exactly does bolting mean? You said it was the plant getting too much sunshine, however you then said you only had two days of sunshine in the past two weeks. Im so confused, can you explain? And why would you plant veggies like that where you have the midnight sun.
Great questions, bolting is where instead of it producing a head of broccoli it flowers and produces seed instead. Even though it rains everyday. Even as we speak, the light is out. The sun is out. We plant them because if we can work with them in time to cover them we can grow beautiful cold weather crops here. I’m just going to have to work in the rain to keep that from happening. Hope that helps.
Per Google, these are just a few things lupin is good for: Digestive Health. Extremely high in dietary fibre, Lupine beans keep food and waste moving through the body thus preventing constipation and keeping the colon healthy. ... High in Protein. Proteins are the main building blocks of the body used to make muscles, tendons, organs and skin. ... Diabetes.
Ok I have to ask because they may be gone all day working or in school , but I see you have several grown kids and I’ve seen videos of your sons splitting wood but to me as a viewer all I see if you and your husband the only ones working and working in the house and the kids aren’t shown much helping y’all, just curious if it’s because their off working or at school , anyway I live tge videos very informative
Sort of. They are given chores, like go do …….. and if we are not making a video I don’t record them, cleaning trash, loading fires, doing laundry, taking care of animals. You name it. They also don’t like to be recorded very often, and we have a rule if one person says don’t record me please, we just shut it off. But we wouldn’t have this place without them. I wish they would record more you wouldn’t believe the things they go do and see without us. The pictures alone are breath taking.
