Alastair Stewart shares dementia diagnosis and stroke ordeal as he speaks out on retirement

Legendary broadcaster Alastair Stewart joined Camilla Tominey on GB News on Sunday to discuss why he decided to step back from his role in March.
In a brave and candid conversation, Alastair revealed to Camilla he's been diagnosed with dementia.
The broadcaster admitted that "six to nine months" ago he began to feel "discombobulated" when doing simple tasks around the house.
Alastair's concerns led him to contact his GP and relayed his fears that he may have early-onset dementia.

It says a lot about GBN that they stuck by him and he's still getting work. Such a knowledgeable guy, hopefully he'll come back to GBN on a full time basis. It says a lot that everyone is flocking to GBN, they've had enough of the MSM.

@@vincekerrigan8300 True I had forgotten about him but in GB News’s defence they cannot go against the rules of OfCom even if they wanted to. It is an infant news station that has been boycotted by advertising companies so they do not have the money to continually pay enormous fines. They try and give as much free speech as they are allowed which is much more than the Woke channels but there is no longer true free speech in this country and GBNews is still controlled with censorship!

@@Sharonslattery He will probably go into care for palliative care nearer the end stages, my mum died from the exact condition and we just watched her getting smaller in the big bed and at the end she couldn't drink or eat ,we were only allowed to swab her lips with a small amount of water. She went down to 4 st and didn't know us,its called the long goodbye.Mum didn't even know how to open an envelope in the early stages and thought she was on a train going somewhere and asking when would the train stop.Asking the same questions continually.

Great man xx My mam had vascular dementia she had surgery to fix her leaking aortic heart valve 20yrs prior. It's a slow dementia and my dad looked after her brilliantly. X

Mr. Stewart - I take my hat off for your courage to do this interview. I am not a medicine expert of any sort, but I could imagine that a specialized food/diet could help against further deterioration. Dr Rangan Chatterjee and his many podcast guests on new/unorthodox health information might be someone you might wish to contact. Best wishes and looking forward to seeing you further on GB News. Thank you for sharing. My husband had vascular dementia and had also had minor stroke called TIAs that we were unaware of but showed up on a brain scan. He would never accept his diagnosis but I guess ignorance is bliss and when he was also diagnosed with MS he still didn’t believe that either. He finally was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and he passed away 2 months later but strangely it was a blessing as he wasn’t really aware of what was happening and made it easier for me nursing him to the end. WOW ~ Brilliant interview.. I too suffered infarct a while back, I can connect 100% with you :-) Before diagnosis I used t use the word "BrainFart" when I messed up / mixed up words.. When the consultant told me about my infaction I chuckled, he asked why.. I told him, he too chuckled. Sir Alistair, you say "read" I've now had to take to audio books or screen readers as I lose the plot with the written words now. When touching your head, you touch your right side, mine is left side of head as I touch,,

What a exeptional character. This a is very relateable topic for myself as my grandfather who sadly pased away last month had been suffering with cardiovascular dementa having had his diagnosis over 10 years ago. I have always been exceptionally fond of Alister stewart, (particularly from Police, Camera, Action! growing up,) and when I got older I always held him in very high regard as a news presenter. I'm thrilled that GBN have decided to name their new studio in his honor as he is truely a deserving man.

My Son has also had a stroke and like Alistair has left him with health deficit, caused by uncontrolled Hypertension he is being looked after by several Doctors in their various speciality, following his stroke! Alistair, you’re such brave and thoughtful person. I live with someone who has Vascular Dementia and he’s just taken to his bed for most of the day, and plonks himself in front if tele for the evening. He’s aggressive, abusive and does does nothing to help himself. I’ve been reduced to being the target of his abuse. I know everyone is different, but you are an inspiration. And I’m super impressed by the love and appreciation you have for your wife. I wish you both the very best.

I greatly appreciate the honesty of this interview. Truly educational from a true gentleman. I would say Alistair is incredibly fortunate to have such a loving a capable wife. Sally has not been ‘reduced’ to a carer, but elevated to one. Sally will learn lessons she never dreamt she would ever learn, and be a more wonderful person as a result…

He had me going when he said late 50s early 60s. Alastair has been around for around 40 years or so. I remember him on news as a kid on ITN, pre woke days, then on London News Network for London today/tonight, then on GB NEWS. A consummate professional. He has been great for most of my life.

I remember watching this lovely man on the news when I was younger. I am so very sorry to learn of his dementia diagnosis. But I know through his positivity he will do everything in his power to keep as healthy as he possibly can. My mum has dementia she is 91 years old it came after a huge stroke. As after a stroke the person gets smaller strokes in some cases they are not even aware of then sadly every time they have a small stroke it damages the brain and that brings on dementia. My mum isn’t in this world anymore god bless her. I wish Alastair my very best wishes thank you for all the wonderful work you have done and still will do. Kind Regard’s

I have always liked Mr Stewart as a person, first and foremost; but also as a professional journalist who has integrity and dignity which seems to be sadly lacking in others. I hope that both him and his family are all well supported and that their private lives are respected however they choose. I wish you a long, happy and healthy retirement, Sir. I met Alastair many years ago at Southern TV when he interviewed me a couple of times. He is still as fresh, and as good as he ever was. What a pity that ill health has caught up with him, as it has me. It's very frustrating, but he is deservedly well respected, and I am sure we all wish him well.

Great respect for Alastair Stewart and great respect for GBN. I love the way Nana shows so much kindness and respect when she’s interviewing Angela Levin. I watched the opposite happen when Angela was being interviewed on ITV. The host Susanna Reid, talked over her and it was evident that she had no respect for Angela or her opinions.

What an absolute joy it was to see Alistair S again on the couch this morning. I never quite knew why he suddenly left, have missed him ever since, but now I do. A most timely and informative interview with this urbane always impressive media person. He appears to retain an impressive vocabulary and retention of his faculties that, it can be hoped, serve to enable him to keep up his most welcome appearances on GB News.
