يتناول الفيلم الوثائقي "إمبراطورية ألف" قصّة حياة ألبير أبيلا الذي أسس وقاد أعماله في قطاع الفندقية وتقديم الطعام. فيروي كيف ختم أبيلا اسمه على علب الطعام في المدارس والجامعات والمستشفيات والفنادق والمطاعم، وكيف كان مطبخه الخارجي والمستقل عن الشركات والمؤسسات يزودها بالمأكولات يومياً. ويستعيد البدايات حين كانت الفكرة فريدة وجديدة، ثم يغوص في حقبة التطوّر والازدهار وتحوّل الشركة إلى مجموعة فاقت حركة المال فيها أكثر من مليار دولار شهرياً. وقد انطلقت من لبنان إلى نحو أربعين دولة، لتضمّ ما يزيد عن خمسة وثلاثين ألف موظف.
Albert Abela laid the foundations for a catering and hotel business that has once reached an annual turnover exceeding one billion dollars and employed 35000 people in 40 countries. The idea of outside catering was virtually unknown back in the day, but the Abela Group had a strong footing in all hospitality sectors: In-flight catering, cost-effective food management ser-vices to universities, schools, hospitals, nursing houses, hotel chains, restaurants, and in the corporate and hospitality sectors in Europe, the United Sates, and the Gulf.
In a touching documentary entitled “Ambaratoriat Alef” (The A Empire), filmed between Lon-don, Paris, South of France, Monte Carlo and Beirut, Ricardo Karam celebrates the life of the legendary Albert Abela who passed away on the 18th of December 1998.
