This week, we're putting the focus on Nobel Prize-winning French author Albert Camus. As 2020 saw France mark 60 years since his death in a car crash, Camus's seminal work "The Plague" was unexpectedly thrust back into the spotlight by the Covid-19 pandemic. From the UK to Japan, the 1947 novel established itself as a global sensation, topping sales charts and pushing publishers into a rushed reprint. But Camus's prolific and multi-faceted career extends far beyond this viral hit. We tell you more about the author's life, starting with his humble beginnings in French-ruled Algeria.

Albert Camus is one of the greatest writers of all time because he knows what the human thinks and feels.

Read "The Plague" ages ago. I always wonder what M. Albert would make of the last three years. Merci, Albert. We miss you.

All his Journals are now published in English in several volumes: This is Alberto up close and personal. Sartre the Stalinist dropped him. De Beauvoir (Rebecca West called her a silly bitch) said, 'I shall miss Camus,' and all because Camus told the truth about the Gulag Archipelago.

camus' relevance even 50+ years after he died is proof of the fact that he touched some deep veins in the human psyche, satre's denouncement just seems silly now

I understand both English and French, but one at a time, please! The unavailability of captions compounds the problem.

he made me fell in love with France once... now France is just, in my mind, Le Pen and the right wingers... so sad. They could use a little existentialism...
