There is a reason he won Time: Person of the Century. He was determined to be the most important person of the last 100+ years. The magazine cover photo is amazing too. He did much as an individual. But his scientific theories laid the foundation for dozens of different fields of physics and essentially created modern physics. Einstein was like the stone thrown in an pond. It creates a big splash, but also creates many waves that continue to spread on the water surface long after the first splash is gone.

Albert Einstein was being Sarcastic when he said that because Tesla criticized Albert Einsteins theory of relativity. They didn’t like each other.

@@KennethKoronya77 Most libraries and bookstores have it and I am sure Amazon has it. Much more comprehensive than the Walter Isaacson biography that came out at approximately the same time. I read both.

@@chrisoleary9876 Yes, and when he had a chance to get credit for it he declined. His humility, in concert with his genius, makes him an unsung hero. I think the Universe rewarded Lemaitre for it by delivering confirmation of the expanding universe on his deathbed.

It’s surprising to see people still complement him for being so smart when is diaries, recent release release show that all the way through his middle age he was a notorious racist. Disappointing.

Does “eventually” mean that Einstein took the time to examine Lemaitre’s proof as well as his own theory before coming to the conclusion that Lemaitre had been correct and he himself had been incorrect? Which would have taken a fair amount of time, I presume. The way you phrased it, Einstein sounds almost like he was reluctant to admit a mistake, like he begrudgingly agreed with Lemaitre. Or was that actually the truth of the matter?

@@Hollis_has_questions Einstein was mailed the results Lemaitre found. Months later he met Lemaitre in a park outside the 1927 Solvay conference and told Lemaitre "Your calculations are correct, but your physics is abominable." It was not until 1933, after listening to a lecture by Lemaitre that Einstein said to NY times reporter "This is the most beautiful and satisfactory explanation of creation to which I ever listened." If he told Lemaitre of this sooner it has not been reported, to my knowledge.
