Albert Marquet is a French fauvist painter known for his landscapes. Marquet is a close friend of Henri Matisse and exhibits with other Fauves such as André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck and Raoul Dufy. Although his colors are not as bright as those of his counterparts, Marquet's subtle tones are brought out by his vigorous brushstrokes. Born Pierre-Albert Marquet on March 27, 1875 in Bordeaux, he studied with Gustave Moureau at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, as did his Fauve colleague Georges Rouault. He traveled extensively throughout his career and had an interest in waterfronts and vistas around Europe and North Africa.

First Morris Graves, earlier today, and I wondered about more videos of other painters I admire, and my prayer is answered!Albert Marquet, one of my absolute favorite painters, and, in my opinion, one of the greatest landscape artists in history, whose subtle, beautiful colour tones and harmonies, rival his lifelong friend Matisse (who I also have great admiration for), and makes clearly self evident, his work has been absurdly, unfairly, overlooked and undervalued by art history! It takes immense talent and a certain noble humility, to distill the chaotic infinity of nature into an unity and accord, that, by the simplest means, expresses subtlety, powerfully, eloquently, and coherently, the mysterious essence of landscapes, or anything, of life itself! I predict that people will find out more about this great artist and come to their senses, restoring his art and reputation as one of the greatest artists in the 19th to the 20th centuries! Thank you for giving tribute and celebrating the art of this shy, quiet, genius!
