These city counsels, like them or not, were democratically elected. They tried to recall Gondek but there wasn’t enough support for it. Not everyone will like an elected official but it’s up to the constituents to decide.

Municipalities are creations of the province. Provinces are not the creation of a federal government. Massive difference. Sabrina and Guratan need to go back to school to learn about how this works.

That’s odd Calgary officially became a city in 1894. Alberta didn’t become a province until 1905.

Danielle Smith should audit Sohi. Wasteful spending of 100 million $ for a bike path, another 8 % increase In property taxes in Edmonton this 2024 , Sohi's new bylaw by charging 15 to 25 cents for paper bags to the customers in the restaurant. Mayor and counselors abusing their powers.

Provinces and Municipalities and certain Federal assets colluded together to organize and weaponize By-Laws in a collective manner to create 'Provincial Firearms Officers" who then collectively worked together to deny Canadians their right to own and carry guns without being harrassed or prohibitted,that undermined the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and abbrogated Federally embedded rights completely.

Nah.Municipalities govern at the pleasure of the Provincial Legislature but on the Federal level Provinces don't govern at the pleasure of the Federal Government.

@@freedomlife3623 My logic is Canada's Constituition which clearly defines Federal and Provincial responsibilities within the Federation. Parliament can make laws for all of Canada, but only about matters the Constitution assigns to it. Municipal governments recieve their powers through the Province by way of the Municipal Act. Google is your friend.

I support Smith concerning a lot of things but a little iffy about this one. This wouldn't just apply to this government but future governments. Not sure I like the potential of a provincial NDP government being able to use this in my municipality.

If municipalities weren't passing by-laws at odds with authority reserved for the provinces or federal government then this wouldn't be necessary. But when Albertans see these big cities aligning with Ottawa and not Alberta, there's a problem. I think Premier Smith is right to have this legislation, but it needs to be clear what kinds of circumstances would invoke it.

In Edmonton city bylaws have been weaponized and City council has weaponized itself generically to fight its own constituents in Court and actually in Physical City Hall where they have militarized everything and protected it with many layers of smoke and mirrors....Calgary and every major City have also been doing the same things...these Cities and Communities are denying Canadians their Federally Designated rights and freedoms using weaponized civic bylaws defended by Police/Civil Servants to do it and this is against all laws.
