Your Grandmother was.some kind of special! I was drawn to her because my own grandmother was the same type of soprano she was. I call them no-nonsense sopranos...don't let that high pretty singing fool you! After my grandmother passed your grandmother became my email pen-pal. She shared much wisdom and was always very gracious but also VERY real...she never came off like a "star" even though to me she was a HUGE star. You are a very blessed individual to have her blood running in your veins, as I am sure you know. 💪🙏
I'm gonna miss my Email pen pal. She had so much wisdom and would get tickled that a young buck like myself would reach out to her. She was of a cloth we will likely not see again.
Esther Ford had an amazing instrument, but not the best vocal instincts. Would have been interesting to see what kind of career she might have had if she had some formal training and was taught some vocal discipline. This screaming she does here is messy...and probably part of why she never became a major gospel soloist.
i respect your opinion but to call that as a screaming?thats kinda rude because to sing Gospel song,it doesn't need any technic or even style or even a proper way...its about praising the almighty Father and talking about Him with all of your heart...scream if you can,squall if you can,sing if you can or even crying if you can because we know it deep down come from your heart to God🙏🏻GBU
I can dig where you're coming from, having heard her in her prime. She only did this that you speak of for a brief strech in her older years...She had much control in her younger years, pulling her squalls straight from diaphragm to the head and bypassing the throat altogether (unlike here where she relies on the throat for her top notes) and she almost always exclusively used her head tones back in the day...The problem here (which, as time went forward, she got over) is that she was still trying to sing her stuff way up in the rafters where she was most accustomed, but her range had dropped so those high squalls used more throat than belly...But She eventually lowered her keys and had gotten her control back the last few times I heard her (which then meant she COULD go on up there for a few numbers without strain), not long before she passed. She sang right to the end of her life. Even in this video from the 90s she had already been singing 50 years, most of them singing on the road. That will wear and tear anybody's voice down. That road ain't no joke. Esther Ford was an awesomely gifted singer and a beautiful person. She was very kind to me.
