Man that’s some nice editing 👍🏻 I’m looking forward to a review of the african blades you got from Nepal. I’m thinking about ordering a large Bauernwehr from GGK as after I got my last custom piece from Landsknecht in only a month (!) after placing the order I was told that this probably won’t happen again😄
Thanks, man! Yeah, I already did all the cutting with those two Congolese swords and I’m gathering my thoughts and doing some research for a review. Hopefully I can put it together soon. Yeah Purna has earned quite a reputation lately. I guess the days of getting our commissions within a few weeks are over😆
The Reeve is one of Albion’s lesser known swords. Limited edition of 100 will be made but after a decade it is still somehow available for order. Thanks for showing what it’s capable of. The type A pommel and the wide blade are very attractive.
I didn’t expect the sword to be this thin. How representative so you think this sword is to original swords of this time period? Will swords this thin survive the harsh condition of the battlefield?
It is noteworthy that these type X bladed swords were mostly used as sidearms on the battlefield while the primary weapons were the spears and lances, or occasionally greataxes. The longer type XI bladed swords are mostly cavalry swords used by some as primary weapons from horseback. A properly constructed and heat treated sword will always be more durable than weapons with wooden hafts like spears and axes, because the blade plus the tang are one piece of steel with certain hardness and flexibility.
That Reeve's thickness is really shocking! Less than 4 mm to start from, and down to just over 1 millimeter? It still looks like a very solid cutting sword.
Glad you have noticed. These earlier medieval swords have incredible thickness. They are often broad and thin yet still have a high degree of distal taper.
As soon as I see the bottle stood there after being cut by you, I was sold on this sword! Order placed in March of 2024, let's see how long it takes for this dream sword to arrive.
