He might be one of the OG of the metal community on RU-vid but like he says it's not financially fit anymore to make RU-vid videos I would say to that if he has a normal job outside of RU-vid and then he does RU-vid as like a side job he would still be making that revenue from both jobs I know a lot of RU-vidrs. Who have a 40 Hour Work Week and then they do RU-vid on the weekend but I can understand. If he's married has kids and it's not as easy as 1 2 3
I'm gonna miss this channel so much, you are one of the only RU-vidrs I still watch and one of the only ones I have watched in the past few years with RU-vid's decline. RIP to a legend and thank you for everything man, I wish you luck in your future endeavors. Stay metal my friend \m/.
CKN, thanks for the music, you’ve certainly enhanced my journey through metal. It saddens me that you will no longer be there to show me new and great bands and albums, but I sincerely wish you the best of luck on your journeys. Again, thanks.
Dear CKN, you will be immensely missed, I will forever be grateful for all the great music I've discovered thanks to you. I wish you a healthy life filled with meaning and value.
Thanks, CKN. I kind of found you in my formative years of high school, just getting into some of the really good metal bands out there. You... indeed helped me on my track towards the tastes I have now. Hell. I’d have never found Ayreon without you. So, truly - you have my undying appreciation. I’m just glad I could make it for the end. Thanks for everything. ❤️
CKN, I'll admit I don't follow your channel much anymore (admittedly I don't listen to as much metal as I did back in 09-10 when I first discovered you) but I always look forward to your year-end best of lists. They're always a refreshing change of pace from a lot of the other music reviewing youtubers out there putting out best of the year lists. Your presence on this site will be missed. Good luck with whatever you do in the future and thanks.

@@Stevenirons dragonforce is on the list but im biast as being a DF fan, in reality it shouldnt be on the list. Sabaton was a flat out no for me... very generic.. no variety
@@andyfox8377 sorry, I missed it because it was 38?? That's silly. And if you can find me a band that writes about the insane battles of history, Lawrence of Arabia?? Sgt Alvin York like Sabaton does I'd be shocked. They write songs about D-Day, the Holocaust, Midway, you clearly don't have a respect for history.
@@Stevenirons jesus calm down there's more important things out there to be triggered by. 1. I have a degree in 20th century history specialising in modern wars.... 2.the subject matter isn't the biggest defining feature of an album.. the music is. Just because Sabaton sing about wars doesnt mean they get a pass 3. Its my list and i prefer a bit more substance and variety... sabaton doesnt do that for me.. if it does for you then thats great all for you.. but dont expect everyone to have the same opinion as you.
@@andyfox8377 far from triggered, just have a passion for music....Then you should know how important history is. The substance used to mean something but guess that time has passed. And how did you get that degree with your terrible opinion on Sabaton.
@@Stevenirons Music. Is. Subjective. READ THAT AS MANY TIMES AS YOU NEED. I like all those bands too, I'm telling you that your opinion is trash. There are hundreds of phenomenal metal bands out there that aren't mainstream, that not as many people have heard. Try expanding your musical horizons dude. Just cause you don't like anything but thrash and power metal doesn't mean the rest of metal is trash.
Thanks so much CKN for mentioning Wheel. Had never heard of them and am now hooked! What a brilliant record. Find so much new music off these end of year lists!
1. SlipKnoT - We Are Not Your Kind 2. As I Lay Dying - Shaped by Fire 3. Fit For An Autopsy - The Sea of Tragic beats 4. In Flames, I the Mask 5. Of Mice & Men - EarthandSky
IF's whiny clean vocals ruined it for me. Here's my list: Soilwork - Verklighsten 10/10 Knocked Loose - A Different Shade Of Blue 9.3/10 Wolves At The Gate - Eclipse 9.3/10 Despised Icon - Purgatory - 9.3/10 Chon - self-titled 9.3/10 Korn - The Nothing 9/10 Thy Art Is Murder - Human Target 9/10 Of Mice & Men - Earth And Sky 8.7/10 After The Burial - Evergreen 8.7/10 Killswitch Engage - Atonement 8.5/10
Heart Like a Grave was my album of the year by far, top 5 is good enough. Gonna miss you man, you have some amazing content and you’ve enhanced all of our metal experiences. Good luck in your future my friend
I’ve been following this channel for about 4 years now. I can’t even describe how much you’ve grown my music tastes with your videos, this one being no exception. Thank you for all that you’ve done.
I watched this, then I ordered 12 new CDs. I always look(ed) forward to these end of the year lists. I was introduced to a lot of good bands and albums. Thanks.
wish you well in your future endeavors! hopefully when things stabilize you can consider returning bc clearly no one can fill your shoes. either way thanks for the great content man.
VERY pleased to see Thank You Scientist in the top 3 definitely one of my favorite albums of the year. If you haven’t heard Thank You Scientist you’re seriously missing out!
The time and dedication it would take to give an honest top 50 list of 2019 is why you will be missed. Also, easily explains why you might need to step away from the channel. You seem like a 100% kind of guy. Take care CKN and thanks for all the great content over the years.
Wilderun: Veil Of Imagination at times left me breathless. At other times made me want to brew endless pots of coffee, just so I could listen over and over, a majestic album for sure!
Kinda sad that there's no Ilho or Hath and even the last mindblowing RIMFROST on the list. Couldn't agree more with #1 and #2. Still, it's hard to see you go mister. I've been following you for a long time now and I will miss how raw and true your reviews are. I wish you well, my friend
Ruisdier I completely agree. I’ve been buying some of these albums as I listen to them to support the artists. It’s good to see the metal community alive and well!
Nice to see Fear Inoculum and Distance Over Time here. The Verdict by Queensryche is another one of my favorites this year. Looking forward to what’s coming next. Really gonna miss this channel.
First of all, I've gotta say this is probably the best list I've seen this year (I say probably only because Andy Synn did such an incredible job over on No Clean Singing). That said, here's mine: 1. Iapetus - The Body Cosmic 2. Disillusion - The Liberation 3. Cult of Luna - A Dawn to Fear 4. Wilderun - Veil of Imagination 5. White Ward - Love Exchange Failure 6. Dreadnought - Emergence 7. Swallow the Sun - When a Shadow is Forced into the Light 8. Hath - Of Rot and Ruin 9. Insomnium - Heart Like a Grave 10. The Moth Gatherer - Esoteric Oppression 11. Endolith - Chicxulub 12. Xaon - Solipsis 13. Mgła - Age of Excuse 14. The Chemical Mind - Beneath the Shadow it Casts 15. Nailed to Obscurity - Black Ice 16. Employed to Serve - Eternal Forward Motion 17. IATT - Nomenclature 18. Villagers of Ioannina City - Age of Aquarius 19. Atlas Entity - Beneath the Cosmic Silence 20. Herod - Sombre Dessein Some great albums that most likely would have made the list had I spent more time with them (in no particular order): - Archivist - Triumvirate - Lucidity - Oceanum - Eternal Storm - Come the Tide - Thornhill - Dark Pool - Soulsplitter - Salutogenesis - Schammasch - Hearts of no Light - The Great Old Ones - Cosmicism - Richard Henshall - The Cocoon - Hypno5e - A Distant Dark Source - Nightland - Umbra Astra Luna - The Drowning - The Radiant Dark - Nile - Vile Nilotic Rites - Xoth - Interdimensional Invocations - Avantasia - Moonglow - Glare of the Sun - Theia - Inter Arma - Sulphur English - Fractal Universe - Rhizomes of Insanity - Devin Townsend - Empath - Kaleikr - Heart of Lead - Moon Tooth - Crux Some honorable mentions (again, in no particular order): - Sermon - Birth of the Marvelous - Numenorean - Adore - Soen - Lotus - Downfall of Gaia - Ethic of a Radical Finitude - Equipoise - Demiurgus - Dream Theater - Distance Over Time - Contrarian - Their Worm Never Dies - Arctic Sleep - Kindred Spirits - In Mourning - Garden of Storms - Obsidian Tide - Pillars of Creation - Blut Aus Nord - Hallucinogen - Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race - Mechina - Telesterion - Lacrimas Profundere - Bleeding the Stars - A Novelist - Folie EPs: 1. The Walrus Resists - Sons of Gehenna 2. WAIT - We Are In Transit 3. Vale of Pnath - Accursed 4. A Constant Knowledge of Death - Vol. III.a: Forth From The Quiet To The Air That Trembles 5. Gommorah - Gommorah As a side note, The Walrus Resists - Sons of Gehenna is one of my most listened-to releases of the year. If it were an LP, it'd be in the top 10 for sure. Also, A Constant Knowledge of Death released four EPs this year, each one unique and different than the other three, and all of them worth a listen. The first one (mentioned above) is by far my favorite though. Lastly, I want to add an album that I missed in 2018 that I enjoyed quite a lot this year: - Scoparia - Renewal
Going to miss you so much. First channel I ever subscribed to on my old account 10 years ago. Shown me so many great bands, actually in a relationship thanks to one of them ( Agalloch ) and just.... idk if you can ever be replaced in terms of metal and rock album reviews. You had an amazing run man, your very raw and unedited content can never be replaced to me. Never met you, never talked to you, but you always felt like a friend strangely enough. Fight that good fight, stay well and rock on!
im gonna miss this. This channel was great. Specifically these list videos were one of my biggest sources of finding new amazing music. I wish you all the best my man and thanks for doing this
I've discovered and fallen in love with too many bands to count thanks to you and specifically your top of the year lists. If it wasn't for your 2016 list, I may never have discovered my second favorite band of all time in Insomnium, and for that alone, I say: Thanks you so much for everything you've done for the metal community over the years and I'm really going to miss seeing your reviews and lists every year!
I'm going to miss this channel and especially the album of the year videos. I've been able to find some dope bands through them, thank you very much sir!
Some of my favorites from this year in no particular order: Aoratos - Gods Without Name Jute Gyte - Birefringence Saor - Forgotten Paths Soen - Lotus Artificial Language - Now We Sleep Swallow the Sun - When A Shadow Is Forced Into the Light Schammasch - Hearts Of No Light Thank You Scientist - Terraformer Alcest - Spiritual Instinct Finsterforst - Zerfall Port Noir - The New Routine Altarage - The Approaching Roar Wilderun - Veil Of Imagination Dream Theater - Distance Over Time Mgła - Age Of Excuse Warforged - I: Voice Iapetus - The Body Cosmic Batushka - Panihida Abyssal - A Beacon In the Husk Wretched Fate - Fleshletting Tool - Fear Inoculum Acid Death - Primal Energies Allegaeon - Apoptosis Althea - The Art Of Trees Arch/Matheos - Winter Ethereal Ataraxie - Résignés Devin Townsend - Empath Bent Knee - You Know What They Mean Blut Aus Nord - Hallucinogen Blood Incantation - Hidden History Of the Human Race Maladie - Symptoms II EP Courtney Swain - Between Blood and Ocean Cult Of Luna - A Dawn To Fear Leprous - Pitfalls White Ward - Love Exchange Failure Moon Tooth - Crux Inter Arma - Sulphur English The Great Old Ones - Cosmicism Nile - Vile Nilotic Rites Swans - Leaving Meaning Opeth - In Cauda Venenum Heilung - Futha And some others that I can’t think of right now
"Love Exchange Failure" is one of the best Black Metal albums I've ever heard and the best blind buy I've ever made. When I saw the album at a local record store, the album art made me think of Alternative Rock or Post-Rock, BUT GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDD WAS I EVER FLOORED when I put it on for the first time. Late Night Atmospheric Jazz married with Black Metal...... GENIUS!
Damn, all the top two picks are instant faves of mine, (i already love TYS) and a lot of the albums here. From one person. Fifty people from BANGER TV had recommendations but it was very difficult for me to like what they recommended. Fifty people. This reminds me how much of a gem CKN is. Worth more than the entire youtube in recommending genius music.

I definitely agree with Veil of Imagination being AOTY. Honestly on my first listen, I didn't like it much but I came back to it and I don't know what I was missing but now it's constantly on repeat.
It's hard to see this channel grow so much over the years just to see it end. Who can we trust now for music reviews? I guess we just have to discover the music for ourselves. That's what CKN would do.
I'm gonna add that if someone likes Mgła then you can try to check Kriegsmachine (last album was a 'drumfest' from Darkside and Enemy of Man is great too IMO) - it is now the project of the same people pretty much. It existed as a band before Mgła, then Mgła came as a studio project, then Mgła became a proper band a now Kriegsmachine is a studio project. They switched places so to speak :D
Pretty much all of my favorite albums are on your list except Voyager's "Colours in the Sun" I can not stop listening to this album. It is right up there at the top of my rotation with Soen.
I'll miss your commentary CKN. I'm hoping you might guest on other people's channels from time to time (particularly Sea of Tranquility with Pete Pardo). Thank you for introducing me to some select bands over the years - and again I broke out my pencil and will be checking out a lot the top 15 you gave.
FINALLY! Someone else who has heard of Fen and praise them as much as me! Winter is one of my all time favourite albums and The Dead Light was a fantastic follow up!
The top 15 albums are very interchangeable. That's how amazing this year was. Though, number 1 for me was without a doubt Iaputas. Going to miss you dude. Good luck
The Body Cosmic is an absolutely amazing album and it's not my first choice of genre but they mix so much different types of music, its life changing! Thanks man! 🤘
Good list, thanks for everything, I'll be busy checking out all the albums I haven't yet listened to. Nice surprise to see White Ward so up high, I almost thought I would be the only one, who might put that in the top ten. Definately make sure to check out Atlantean Kodex - The Course of Empire, imo the surperior Tradidiotal/Epic Doom Release of 2019 as opposed to Crypt Sermon.
Thank you for all the great inputs and funny moments (like the time you reviewed the Gojira album and suddenly got super angry then went back to normal lol). I will miss this channel! Been a viewer on and off since 2012 or so. A lot of memories flowing through me and reminding me how fast life goes by when I think about that. Good luck with your future endeavors and I hope everything goes well for you. Happy new decade!
also for me I'd definitely put "dimhav-the boreal flame" on this list, I enjoyed it more than most of the list, it's the best band for daniel heiman's majestic vocals and blends so many styles and elements together. It's such a great album, and it's a goddamn debut. idk if you've heard it or not but I loved the hell out of it
@@Stevenirons Incredible? Damn right, it is. One of the best lists I've seen this year. You've got your Loudwires and BangerTVs for the stuff you like. This one is actually based on good taste.
@@volimNestea Wrong wrong wrong. Those channels aren't that great either. DragonForce has more talent in thier pinky fingers than this entire list combined.
