From its beginning in 2006, Albuquerque's commuter rail line and bus rapid transit network has grown to 32 stations, spanning 105 miles (169 kilometers). This animated video takes you through the timeline of when new stations were opened, forming the Rio Metro and ABQ Ride networks that we know today.

Modest system but great to see the connection between the state's largest city and its capital city. Nice looking rolling stock too.

That commuter railway seems like it would be really useful if service were more frequent.
@exiron0202
@exiron0202 2 года назад
As an Albuquerque resident I agree. It is too geared to peak commuter times and to South to North commuters. Santa Fe to Albuquerque commuters have only a couple of departures, even though there are a lot of bus transfers at the 3 stations in ABQ and lots of commuters headed that way.

This man is underrated, love your work, can you do Boston subway next?
@QuarioQuario54321
@QuarioQuario54321 3 года назад
Boston is pretty large and pretty confusing. It has 6 lines, two of which have sub-lines making effectively 13 lines. Many have been rerouted, closed, and diverted. Based on a recent poll, Charlotte and Connecticut are up next. The next really big network will probably be, after Boston, Philadelphia.

One fact is unquestionable: RailRunner has the most festive livery of all commuter rail systems. Bee-beep! Fun fact: ABQ was operating a rapid bus service they termed BRT in mixed traffic along Central when I was there in 2008. Was this not the actual start of their BRT service, with the dedicated lanes merely being an upgrade?

ART was originally going to be a rail line. The politicians and businesses near UNM and in Nob Hill killed that idea.
@LemonDove
@LemonDove 2 года назад
@@janettemcclelland2959 It was really frustrating how many businesses along Central were focused on losing parking and didn’t see how much more business they could get through foot traffic. It’s also sad how much the whole ART project was mismanaged by the city. If ABQ really wants fewer traffic fatalities then we need fewer cars on the road

Wow. Surprised you didn't mention the ART predecessor, the Rapid Ride. Ran from 2004-2019 on 3 routes. 766,777 and 790. 790 is now ARTx from UNM to Coors and Ellison near the Rio Rancho city limits. Can you do the LA Metro Rail and its ancestors the Red and Yellow Cars next? And San Francisco's iconic Muni? I grew up riding both the LA and San Francisco systems before moving here to Albuquerque. And do SEPTA trolleys too
@VanishingUnderground
@VanishingUnderground 3 года назад
I typically only include buses when they run separated from traffic - as such the last few stops of the 766 and 777 aren’t shown either. LA Metro is coming later this month, SF later this summer, and SEPTA in the fall

@nomadMik
@nomadMik 3 года назад
@@QuarioQuario54321 Last I heard, Nashville was cutting lines from its bus network, so I'm not sure that would work. And anyhow, pretty much every time I've been to Santa Fe, I've had to wait, while driving, at a level crossing, for this train to pass, and I've never seen it empty. Why do you think not many people use it? Do you think that's more true here than for other US cities? I always seem to either enter or leave the state by I-25, but I'll likely take I-40 across later this year, and ride this train as part of a daytrip… another bucket list item ticked.
