I think we can all agree that what Carlitos produced out there was outlandishly great. Absolute belief, absolute clarity, absolute domination.

Love hearing Andy speak on the game and players. Best tennis analyst because he can speak from a players POV which not many can do. So good!

Carlos now has won more majors than Arthur Ashe, Andy Murray, Del Potro, Roddick, Hewitt, Kuerton, Ivanisevic, etc. and tied Courier. While winning 4 majors on all 3 surfaces 3 years ahead of Djokovic, 2 years ahead of Federer and 1 year ahead Nadal.

Phenomenal Carlos. He played better than all of his other matches. He was focused and relaxed. What a phenomenal win for Alcaraz. Wow!

What Andy said is absolute correct, going into this tournament with minimal rehab after knee surgery, having to worry about whether the knee will even hold up through 5 setters, and still made it to the finals and got beaten by fittest warrior out there. Just saying that is absolutely insane and that achievement is severely under-stated by the critics.

My mensicus tear surgery was a 3 month long recovery. For Novak to feel confident enough to compete, let alone make it to the final was extraordinary. I didn't expect him to beat Alcaraz but if he had that would have been the most epic achievement in tennis, ever: pushing 40yo and beating a 21yo prodigy immediately post surgery. Also, pro athlete doctors and PTs are on another level...

Damn listening to Andy Roddick talk really shows you the depth of the game at that level, sheesh. Brilliant analysis of the final, thank you sir.

Completely agree with Andy when he says Carlos is a great player, one of the most entertaining players to watch and is also a class act outside the court. How lucky are we to have witnessed 20 years of the big 3 and got 20 more of Alcaraz and Sinner. And how fortunate for Spain to basically have 40 years (20 in the past and 20 in the future) of tennis dominance.

I love tennis. Watch it all the time. Follow r/tennis religiously. Read match write ups. Done this for years, but never understood the technical aspects like Andy has been laying them out on this pod. Really fascinating to understand the skill dynamics of the game, not just ebbs and flows of matches which you pick up watching. Learning so much. Love it Andy!

At this rate, Alcaraz will better Swiatek in numbers. He is 21, Swiatek is 23. Alcaraz has won slams in all 3 surfaces but Swiatek has won only in Clay and hard court, not in grass. But also Swiatek is improving , her serve got better nowadays. Once she starts winning in grass, there is no stopping her. She is the most consistent player in women’s, her winning percentage is more than 90% this season. Also Swiatek has less injury history than Alcaraz. That will also play a major role who will end up more slams. Right now, considering Alcaraz is 2 years younger than Swiatek he is staying ahead in the race. But things will change once Swiatek starts getting comfortable in grass and faster courts and winning. Let’s see.

I'm gonna be honest, I was almost ready to give up on tennis after Roger's retirement. We've been so spoiled these last 20 years, I never thought I'd experience that magic as a spectator again, or at least not for a long while. Alcaraz, and Sinner to an extent, are "filling that vacuum" as you said and giving the tennis world what it needs to keep interest and continue to grow the sport's popularity once Novak retires.

You had an absolutely amazing playing career and if it wasn’t for some tough luck against one of the GOATs (especially in the ‘09 Wimbledon classic) your cabinet would’ve been a lot heavier. In fact, you mention here Roger’s brilliant strategy (and execution) against your all-time serve, which was an extremely rare breed in neutralizing those points. Having said all that, your analysis is second to none. I’ve watched a number of your videos breaking down matches and I’m now officially in - consider me subscribed🫡 thank you, good sir!

I really do think Carlos' serve is going to continuously improve in time especially as a spot server, i think he can do what djokovic did with his serve and if that coincides with his physical peak over the next few years, he'll be absolutely diabolical to face 😌 Can we talk about how different the RG & SW19 wins for Carlos was? RG taught him that he can win slams without his best tennis, relying significantly on his mental tenacity & grit; SW19 was much of the same up to the final where he demolished Djokovic. So special

Match reminded me of the 2000 & 2001 US Open's. Sampras had great tournaments until he hit a wall in the Finals against Safin and Hewitt. Djokovic did incredible coming off the same knee injury that Federer had.

Carlos was awesome and really went it from the first game. I enjoy watching him play as he goes for winners. Love your commentary Andy too.

Andy's tennis IQ is off the charts, as you would expect from a top player. Carlos is already a great champion of the game and first-ballot Hall of Famer. Just hoping he can stay healthy and not be undone by those horrible, confounding, or career-ending injuries.

Swiatek vs Alcaraz I would say Swiatek has a solid 1.5 slams a year. I would say Alcaraz has 1-3 slams a year. The difference being both estimates is Alcaraz getting injured. Also depending on the competition: Swiatek's main competition is surface, while Alcaraz's main competition is players

Andy first time watching what of your podcasts, didn't know about it. Just saying hi, used to watch you play. I agree with you, Carlos is super fun to watch. As for more slams, Alcaraz or Swiatek gut feel is Alcaraz, but that being said the womens side just seems to be much more open 9 different women's champions in 9 years is pretty telling. But the reason i think Carlos, is that he looks elite on all surfaces, whereas Iga is elite on clay, pretty good on hard courts and not so good on clay. Also Alcaraz vs Sinner, Carlos hands down as well, he just has all the shots in his toolbox.

This is why I think Served is the best tennis nerd podcast. This guy was in the trenches and he's a true student of the game on top of that. To give the inside-tennis breakdown and I think more importantly providing the context that only top players that have played top players have, is the most rewarding part of his podcast. Thanks Andy for doing this.

Congratulations to Carlitos, an absolute gem of a tennis player and sportsman. What a pleasure to watch a young icon at the start of his journey toward the pantheon of the all-time greats. Novak wasn't 100% but I'm not sure it would've mattered. This was Carlos's day and Wimbledon, deservedly so.

I don't get it why we are talking about the knee here, he has been crusing through the easiest of the draw until he faced a really good oponent. He was moving really nicely even in the third set. The really game changer was the level which Carlos got from the first game, carlos pushed him mentally in a flustered state and then kept piling it up. All kudos to Carlos for bringing the A game and djokovic was his usual good but could never match the A game of Carlos irrespective of the knee

Andy’s analysis is top notch! In sport nowadays when someone loses or has a bad day they’re called a fraud, they’re shit, they’re useless. Most of the time it’s the sum of a lot of mini battles that didn’t go your way for one reason or another and you just have to hold your hands up!
