I co-wrote and edited this documentary. The film was an official selection at Sundance and was picked up for national broadcast on PBS. Directed and shot by Jim Fortier. This clip is the final six minutes of an hour long documentary. To purchase this film, go to turtle-island....

This is a great documentary. I saw it by chance in an alcove at Alcatraz in the early 2000s and taught it every year I taught college. All of my students LOVED it. It is very inspiring. Thank you for making it and sowing the seeds for future historians.

My dad was the associate director and historical consultant for this documentary. I m also trying to obtain a copy. Hes the speaker in the blue shirt. He sadly passed away in 2014. In all his copies of his books and teachings we as a family cant find a copy. Any help is appreciated. Daughter of the late Dr. Troy R Johnson. Love you dad !

We gave Troy at least one box of 200 DVDs when we had them made years ago, perhaps he gave them all away I'm not sure, but I have a few copies still and can send you a couple. I really had a lot of respect and admiration for your father and was very saddened to hear that he had passed away. We last spoke on the phone about a year before he passed away regarding the film. If you want to purchase a DVD copy please visit turtle-island.com/filmography/purchase-dvd.html The film is legally out of print and cannot be streamed on RU-vid or rebroadcast on TV etc etc. This is the only place to legally buy a DVD copy. Supplies are limited and once they are all sold it will not be available again for purchase. Have you ever thought about making this into a screenplay for a movie? I don't think a lot of Americans even realize this happened. I've been trying to find a full copy of this documentary for the last year because I'd like to re-watch this, do some more research on Richard Oakes, and then write a screenplay about this amazing moment in American history. It's a damn shame you're contacting RU-vid about this. I really enjoyed this movie. I'd be damn interested in reading the screenplay as I definitely feel this is a story that especially now with Standing Rock, is more timely than ever.

@@beerandloathingpdx My bad, the trailer was uploaded to RU-vid by our editor Mike Yearling, so it will stay up. I'm trying to get my screenplay read again in Hollywood now that Martin Scorsese's forthcoming film "Killings of the Flower Moon" is expected to be up for Oscars.

Yes I have one already and we have shopped it around. Its a complicated story for a traditional feature length film and we have been told it would be better pitched as a 4 part limited series for Netflix etc.
