Graham Bonnet, one of the greatest singers to ever set foot on earth. Such a powerful voice granted him the nick of "Iron Lungs"

Wow, what a flashback. I saw Alcatrazz back in '83, I think, and I remember the buzz Yngwie was generating in those early days. Most in the crowd came just to see him strut his stuff, and that he did. He certainly knew how to show off. Nice to see Graham Bonnet again, too.

Graham Rocks!!! His look is the best ever!!!! And his voice is the best ever, nobody can sing in this range with this power and that night graham wasn't in a good shape!
@geetarcliff
@geetarcliff 18 лет назад
The reason Graham doesn't get the credit he "deserves" is because both Dio and Joe Lynn Turner are MUCH better singers. Graham strains pretty hard, but I still think he's good 90% of the time.

I agreee 100%! Yngwie changed everything for guitar players in the early 80's. He completly re-wrote the guitar vocabulary for guitarist every where! Knocked Eddie Van HAlen offf his thrown and inveneted an entire new genre of music; "Neo Classical" and also "Shred".

This is great rare footage - just before Yngwie left to do the live in 85 video - He was so fresh and trying to prove himself back then! Good stuff!

I can't believe I stumbled across this! Thanks so much for posting! I remember talking to Bonnet after Yngwie left to form Rising Force and he hired Danny Johnson. Great guy. Awesome singer! And Yngwie? He was freakin peakin!

He indeed had a cold. You can play guitar with a flu and still do it right, but voice is voice. No tricks around it.

Good point !! I believe it went like this: car accident, coming out of a coma and obvious nerve damage and memory loss. On Eclipse he was getting his usual style back but clearly had lost some musical ability with his improvising. What happened next I believe was alchohol related...especially with the Seventh sign CD...It's like a whole different person. I wonder if he consciously realizes that there is a difference? I'm always looking for old Yngwie stuff back with the Johanson brothers!
@urik
@urik 18 лет назад
indeed. ^_^ saw that it's not here, so i thought "why not?". After all it's a giant piece of heavy metal history. And it's one of the only times where you can see Malmsteen without that cream colored guitar

Yngwie has that Leslie West, Gary Moore, Schenker, Schon, millon dollar vibrato that just makes a note sing like a vocal melody! I wish Yngwie would slow down more but that's Yngwie for you. The King of Shred. The Holy Trinity of Shred; Yngwie, Tony MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore. Everyone else with the exception of a few were garbage trend followers.

Yngwie's soloing was certainly more focused back then. He seemed to have a better sense of melody and structure to his soloing, rather than constantly improvising. I don't think I ever saw a drastic change though. I think it has gradually happened. I do think his guitar playing peak was "Fire & Ice" in 92. In recent years he has demonstrated some amazing compositional skills that I do think overshadow his earlier stuff. His sloing creativity has diminshed though.

Bonnet was and is tremendous. Dio? Sure but it's hell of unfair to compare people to Dio. IMO the main reason Graham doesn't get the credit he deserves is the way he chose to look. A lot of the "values" that most rock audience considers don't go very deep.

@lightintheblack5381
@lightintheblack5381 16 лет назад
Yngwie is technically a very fine player and showman but really has no soul or feel to his playing you may as well put a speedometer up on stage and check out how many million notes per second we are hearing.He does need to listen to his old hero Ritchie Blackmore a bit more and learn that sometimes you can say more with one note than 20million!

It appears as if some kind of wild bird flew into, got caught up in, was left to die & dangle from the end of Mr. Malmsteen's guitar. I am wondering if that helps him to extract those great sounds.
