Neige's vocal are quite amazing. He is the one screaming at the beginning in Dueil Angosseus from Peste Noire, beautiful desperate cold voice. Absolutly perfect
I have always lived here yet Like a wandering stranger On earth, lonely, Constantly Detachment, I hear the call for me in another world Sounding bitter. All eyes to the sky, Bearing the burden of my body, I see my home Lost in the clouds. Too much weight here, obstinate arm Holding the spirits travelers About to escape. By low I see my home, Meadows eternal Lost in the clouds. Where the colors are born new, Where my heart and my soul remained.
@FlameWing92 In order: 1.) The Sham Mirrors 2.) Sideshow Symphonies 3.) La Masquerade Infernale. The band is Avant Garde/ Black Metal, it isn't dreamy and soft and beautiful like this; but the songs are amazing and unique.
I've always been living here though Like a wandering stranger On this abandonned land In everlasting detachment I hear in myself the call from another universe Echoing bitterly The eyes rised to the sky, Wearing the burden of my body, I see my residence Lost in the clouds Too much heaviness here, stubborn arms Holding up traveling spirits On the verge of fleeing Down there I see my residence These lost meadows Lost in the clouds Where the new colors are born Where my heart and soul are kept
@SkogFe I love Novembre, I'm glad they're finally getting back into the studio. I liked Aspera, I think it is very good Black Metal, I just don't think it is as unique and fleshed out as their later albums.
@FlameWing92 Also if you haven't heard them I suggest you listen to Agalloch (Pale Folklore and The Mantle are the best) and Novembre. Novembre is very similar to this, just harsher. The clean singing is VERY similar.
@Obsidus Thank you very much. Will do. I don't know if you did or not, but check out Agalloch's "The mantle" , it just came to my mind to recommend you that one.
@d6a6r6kness yes, i know. it's epic ! Although, being both alcest and drudkh fan, it doesn't bring anything new to the table, but hey - there's not much stuff like that so I'll gladly listen to it :D
The title means, where the New colors are born :) auf Deutsch: der Titel bedeutet: wo die neuen Farben geboren sind (haben einen Franzosen als zwischenmieter, den missbrauch ich mal :D )
alcest is pretty obviously influenced by black metal. their first release is almost pure melodic black metal. and neige (frontman) is a prominant figure in the black metal scene. black metal does NOT need to be about satanism or the occult. themes of suicide/depression and nature are both very common. the sound is what binds them together, black metal usually (but not always) consists of shrieked vocals, blast beats, and tremelo picking. these are scattered in every alcest release.
In fact the genre is called "Black-gaze", in which black metal and shoegaze are mixed together. I have to say, I don't always like the screams breaking the bliss of the melodic parts, but this is Alcest, one of the pioneers of the genre. "Take Me As I Am".
actually there is a bit of black metal in it (just a bit) and that's quite normal, Neige is a former member of "Peste Noire" and what they do is pure black, but the major part of it is shoegaze, post-rock
thats very debatable...people dont realize that a "sound" or "tone" is not the only thing that makes a band or artist part of a certain genre...its the whole package...ppl will even go as far as the style of dress or lifestyle can ruin a bands reputation as black/death/doom w/e genre metal...but the main point im trying to make is alcest is not black metal...and if you read into alcest you'll see Neige himself was very insulted and confused about why ppl think his music is black metal in nature
Your uncle seems like someone I have never run a crossed and that is unfortunate for me. I mean like just to meet some people that look up sometimes instead of down
Last week i heard them playing this song live.... Nobody will ever understand what happened to me in that moment.. Alcest is a reason for me to stay on earth.
English Lyrics Translation: I've always lived here, though Like a stranger wandering Across this land, forsaken In a perpetual state of detachment I hear the call of another universe inside of me It resounds bitterly My eyes are staring up at the sky, Carrying the burden that is my body I sense my home, Lost inside the clouds Too much gravity here, too many stubborn arms Holding back the travelling spirits About to get free From down here, I sense my home Its eternal meadows Lost inside the clouds Where the new colours are born Where my heart and my soul remained
My mind bugged for a sec XD bc I am french. Like,I was just scrolling down the comments section, and I see the lyrics of this song, but can't quite put my ginget on this little something that's different Well, that was the langage, mind bug fixed, haha
This is one of those bands. You'll only find 2-3 of the in your whole life, no matter how much you listen to music. I just discovered this today, and I haven't felt this way for music since the first time I heard Opeth and Arcturus, over 10 years ago. Life is so wonderful sometimes.
I agree, everything about alcest I find so wonderful. The sound, the lyrics, the album art, it creates this sense of wonder filled melancholy for me. No other band really achieves the same feeling.
After 11 years are you still of the same opinion? (I don't mean this to be polemic, Just curious) when i was in my teen and Souvenirs came out It was like finding a new sense in music and i loved Alcest ever since, but growing up i have to Say that I really cannot find anymore most of their later work as astonishing as i found them back then. I know it's Just growing up but i'm asking if i'm the only One that After a decade began to find this album and some others a bit lazy when throughly analyzed
@@progfan8120 I think Neige's taken the simple fact that most black metal's pieces were hard to understand anyway so he went for a singing style that is hard to get too
The intro riff is pure awesomeness, but its recurrence at 1:24 is sheer bliss. When they play this song live, it's instant goosebumps from the first second on. In the mid part, I find this song loses itself a bit, but towards the end, it rebuilds all of its tension. Overall, it's still one of my favourite songs from Alcest.
I just looked up the lyrics and they are so lovely and wonderfully relatable. It seems to be about spirits who have memories of their origin and want to leave the physical world and go back to their true home. And when they get there, they believe they will discover things they couldn't find while living in physical bodies.
To supplement the Google Translate copy+pasted results, here's an original translation that preserves the rhythmic structure and maintains some of the poetic elements of the song From Which New Colors Rise So long I've lived here, but still it seems So Foreign, just a tourist errant On this Earth, an essence In perpetual detachment I can hear my calling From another universe How it resonates Through the bitter cold I fix my vision, toward the sky Projecting, all these burdens of mine I can see my home In pursuit of the clouds Too much weight hangs, From these brazen arms Restraining the spirit of voyage On the verge of escape From this place, I can see my home The prairies eternally in pursuit of the clouds Where they rise, new colors from the gray Where my heart, and this soul of mine will stay
In French we don't capitalize the first letter of every word, only the first btw. Also, on your website, the title of this song "Les Voyages De L' me" should read "Les voyages de l'âme" unless the ommission has some kind of special meaning.
Tu n'as pas tord, cependant Alcest a expliqué que c'était voulu, donc je suppose qu'il faut faire avec et que la " qualité sonore " du chant est faite exprès, que c'est bien une partie des chansons ;)
