One of the reasons I don't drink anymore, other than once or twice a year for social reasons, is because even when I'm in the mix, I notice a performance loss for several days after in the gym. Especially when pushing heavy weights. So, it's no longer worth it; I'm simply not willing to trade days of optimal performance for 2 hours of fun. Plus, have you ever been around drunk people when you're sober? You start to question all your previous drinking decisions lol.

I recently stopped drinking for various reasons (mainly because of anxiety and ibs) but another huge bonus is not having to fit alcohol around my training Everyone knows alcohol doesn't support training and exercise.. particularly because of poor sleep quality and recovery/dehydration/hangovers and anxiety/reduced physical performance/reduced motivation and preparedness to train/excess empty calories..etc etc Not having to plan my training around drinking or skip sessions all together is a genuine relief. Even after a week of being sober I could already see an improvement. I know this isnt a video aimed at quitting alcohol but its an option if you hadnt thought about it. It never really occurred to me that I could stop drinking since it's so popular and ingrained into our culture. Edit: nearly 1 year alcohol free now and its one of the best decisons ive ever made. I lost about 60 pounds (went from 230-175) while still drinking fairly regularly, although I did have a few months in which I only drank once a week and a few stretches of not drinking for multiple weeks. I just had to plan around my nights out and eat less on those days. However, now that I’m down to like 18% body fat it’s harder to lose weight while drinking. Drinking also makes lean bulking more difficult (since it’s so easy to exceed a small surplus from just a few drinks). So you can definitely lose weight to a certain point, but if you’re trying to get SHREDDED you’ll really need to cut back on alcohol

Would be the similar as asking "Can you run a marathon in a weighted vest?" - Of course you can, but it would be way easier without Of course it depends on the dose but I think even small amounts of alcohol (like 1 kg on the weighted vest) can even make a difference for some people
@oldnatty61
@oldnatty61 Год назад
Actually running w/ a weight vest could well elevate the intensity of the event to compensate for the alcohol consumption. It's all about intensity. The more intensely you workout the more you burn, and if you're smart about modality you can spare muscle and target fat.

Pro tip for those who have access to edible thc infused oils: have 1 standard drink, any kind you please, and take as much thc as you feel you will enjoy. You will feel super fucked up. The alcohol and weed complement and accentuate each other's effects. This comes with the added benefits of being much better for your body as it limits the poisoning effect of alcohol; and the carrier oils require less than a half teaspoon at most normal doses, making them nearly indifferent, calorically. Also, You can't OD on it, and you will be a much better hang than a drunk. Just practice your self control with fasting so you can override your body telling you it's hungry when you get high, or time your consumption of the drugs with having a regular meal. Yes, you could smoke the weed, but that becomes a bitch for cardio and is terrible for your lungs.

@holycameltoe124
@holycameltoe124 Год назад
@@ChaseProvirons well tbf he's still counting how long he's been sober so probably yeah. stop counting its near impossible to remove a thought from your mind but its easy to introduce a thought. which is a great tip that got me off weed. for me it was a hobby I wanted to do but any time I got "wasted" I was to tired or out of my mind to concentrate so I just started putting the hobby before getting wasted (was also drinking and still am sometimes but its not my crutch like weed was) and in the evening when I was doing the hobby I just didn't care about getting wasted anymore and when I looked at the clock I realized I had to go to bed. then I realized all the benefits, being more fit, being more engagable troughout the day and really making progress in my language skills (learning a new language was and is my hobby) etc and I focussed on that and at some point I just stopped thinking about "maybe I should just get wasted this one time, I'm free and I can't learn here/tonight anyway so why not? and yeah I did have those moments that I smoked weed again with friends or even by myself when I argued it well to myself but then it got so much easier to see the negative affects of it the next day and just not to do it again for a long while and the time in between got longer and longer until I never cared for it anymore. the point is that "quitting" is not the goal, the goal is to replace your drinking with a positive thing and to be kind to yourself when you relapse, you'll learn and you'll move on eventually if you can focus on the positive aspects of replacing and not keep focussing on the negative "I'm sober for so long but its hurting I want it so bad" the thoughts of wanting it will be there but then you can push out the thought of wanting to drink with I want to paint or I want to study or I want to do some woodworking or whatever and the nagging thought will eventually be gone. it will take some time but its certainly possible.

Of course depends on the brand, etc. However I am not sure if whiskey on the rocks is any better for fat loss than a can of beer because overall alcohol and calorie content is very close in the standard drinking sizes.

The advice for drinking only straight liquors with zero calorie mixers is good but I'd like to add that not all liquors are alike in this regard. Rum, brandy, tequila, whiskey, and flavored liqueurs do tend to have residual or added sugar in the spirit itself. So, if you are wanting to avoid sugar and minimize calories altogether, stick with vodka or vodka-based spirits without added sugar such as gin. Gin/vodka and tonic/soda are a good choice. My go-to when I'm dieting is vodka with soda water with a few dashes of angostura bitters and a lime/lemon wedge for some flavor.

My experience being a "functional alcoholic" wine seemed to work the best. Seemed to curb my appetite in the evening, and didn't knock me down too hard the next day. The amount of bargaining with myself that occurred was mind boggling. Trying to keep my protein high enough while accounting for the calories in my drinking habit was like advanced calculus. It also meant, I could never eat dessert or sweets or ever cheat on my diet in anyway. Not mention having to do cardio to compensate. Yuck. I was walking a tight rope constantly. Now I'm a year sober, the mirror is looking better than ever, and I am trying way less hard on my routine and diet. I can actually live a little now and still look great.

I drink almost exclusively whiskey on the rocks, and maybe a Rum and diet coke. Usually without eating for a while prior. As a diabetic, it also helps to drive the glucose down. Also, limit the amount. No more than 2 for me, then water or diet coke all the rest of the night.

Im a beer drinker, but only enjoy it on Friday’s nights and Saturday’s. I’m very strict through the week with diet and training. So far I’m down 70lbs in just over a year, while building some muscle (thank you TRT) The problem is, it’s 40+ beers over 2 days. Work hard, play hard

Dropped some 17 kg training like crazy (really, it was nut in the unhealthy way), putting eating in more focus of my life, drinking for two days every other weekend (kids were with me every other weekend) and *dancing like crazy* every time I was out. This happened in 1/2019 - 5/2019. And I actually still never go drinking, or "out" in any way, shape or form, without at least one protein bar (not a candy bar!) with me. As for drinking advice, I'd say don't drink. Alcohol is just stupid. But if you do drink, drink. Don't just sip. Drink. Then don't drink for weeks.

I like this advice and it's absolutely true about drinking on an empty stomach and JUST sticking to liquor. You will consume the least calories possible and will get tipsy way way faster. You can also taper things down easily by just drinking water to help flush it out as the night starts to end. Also on a day I know I'm going to drink I just focus on doing more steps/cardio to help give me room for the extra calories. You the man Mike Isratel 🙌🏿

While the relationship between alcohol consumption and obesity remains unclear, there are good reasons to think that alcohol may play a role: It stop your body from burning fat. It is high in kilojoules. It leads to greater hunger and less satiety

I've found that if I drink straight alcohol while enjoying a hobby project for a number of hours one time per week, it actually boosts my metabolism and I can get better fat loss results overall in conjunction with speed keto(keto, no dairy, no nuts, no snacks, small portions, low calorie, with intermittent fasting) This is an isolated case, I'm sure. I also do not go to bed until I am fully sober, well hydrated, and feeling ok.

Honestly since starting to workout and pay attention to what I'm eating alcohol doesn't taste as good. Knowing how many calories can be in like 1 drink and how shitty I feel after makes it not worth it. I applaud anyone who can drink and have fun and still feel good enough to go to the gym the next day.

Love the humor! Though missed opportunity, especially for a russian, to recommend vodka. If you like to drink a bit too often and a bit too much, seriously, try a vodka only 'diet'. It has no nutritional value, not even sugar. It's just water and ethanol. It comes in two flavors - strong and very strong, so there's no way to drink it much. And it tastes disgusting, so you won't be tempted by it (or it will turn into a challenge that will most likely kill you).

At parties, I gravitate to the table and get drinks for other people. I don't like drinking at parties. It's fun people watching, hanging out with a couple friends, and if I have to help someone out, no problem. But drinking at a party, not my thing. IMO, it's more fun to just have a chill night with a few mates with some beer or wine.

As a recovering alcoholic (three years sober), listening to other (normal) people talking about alcohol and its effects is so fascinating. Like, any amount described in correlation to any degree of intoxication... you'd have to quadruple that for me. Getting drunk, even on an empty stomach, would not happen with anything less than a 750ml bottle of 40% liquor like vodka. And I'd drink that three times over every day pretty much for years. It was miserable. Please drink responsibly, and know the signs of addiction, and seek help if you drift towards them. There's a place, and it's riiiight in the front of the phone book.
