You are so right about our work not needing to be perfect. I’ve had recipients say “Oh, how pretty” or unique or cute, but never “You put it together perfectly”. It’s art in card form. Let’s just play around and have fun making.
These panels are so beautiful. Looking forward to trying this myself. My craft room is my happy place. I am more about the creative process than perfection myself.
Wow! Just wow! I am in a creative slump and these beautiful panels just rejuvenated me. Using aluminum foil and sticker or labels is genius. I am going to do just what you said and play, not planning anything and let the creativity come. Thank you for this simple but beautiful technique. I also love your voice and musings.
You are so kind. Thank you very much. I have had so much fun playing with foil as well as other household items. It's funny how other items and products end up in the craft room. I'd love to see what you create! I think when we just play and allow creativity to flow, there is so much loveliness created - even if it doesn't seem so in the moment. I actually turned several of these panel into cards and there is a video on that as well. Not sure if you found that video or not. Just this week I put out another video where I play with acrylic mediums on foil with great results as well.
Thanks for sharing. I just learned about using foil with embossing folder so to have you then add the alcohol inks. It’s pretty awesome.! I appreciate you’re taking the time to create, and to share your creations with us!
Thank you so much! I hope you have fun using tin foil. It is delicate but fun! I have a couple other videos if you want to check them out: www.youtube.com/@handiscandiscraftyventures7439/search?query=foil
Thanks so much! Keep in mind that it's not my technique, I am simply sharing something I learned, but it is a great "something"! Lol. I found the masking paper on Amazon, and that is info I received from another crafter, as well, I just can't recall who.
Right? I love it too. It's a Darice folder called Quatrefoil Double. I purchased mine years ago at JoAnn, but it is sort of hard to find now. There is a seller or two on Ebay you might be able to get it from
It was so good to hear you say it’s ok to just play. I too am a perfectionist, and sometimes get too caught up in a project and get frustrated. I need to take your advice and just set it aside and go to something else and just play until I feel rejuvenated again. Thank you. Your alcohol inks were very inspiring. I’m going to give these a try too. 😊
I'm so glad to heart all of that! yay! I think we get so caught up in the end product that creativity, actual creativity, gets bypassed. I hope you have the most fun!
Just found your channel and I just love this technique. Alcohol inks are one of my favorites and I can't wait to try this. My favorite is the embossed circle one. Just love how the colors pooled in the circle area. Thanks for showing us this technique.
It really is. I can't take credit for the idea, though, as I mentioned in the video I first learned it from Birgit Koopsen during the Beyond the Paper online workshop a couple years ago -great workshop, btw!
WOWSERS!!!! I’m addicted now!!! I need to go play a bit with my embossing folders, this looks like way too much fun to have on a snowy day today!!! I adore them all!!! Those colors are delicious!!! Thanks for sharing sweet soul, sending blessings & hugs!!!
Nice video. These shine like jewels! My favorite is the teals & golds one that has curvy l8nes like tile. I agree with your comments about not being perfect.
Wow Nancy these turned out beautiful. I love them all but my favorites are the green and blue leaves, this would be great for an ocean scene. The other one is the pink and orange, I just love the vibrancy of this one. I’ve used aluminum foil with my embossing folders, but left them as is, no color. Looking forward to seeing you make projects with these.
Love the technique AND your video! Just got through doing this technique but inked the foil first (which was adhered to cs) and then ran through an embossing folder. I think this may be faster in order to make a lot of panels.... Thank you!
Love these! So beautiful! I covered a paper mache bird with this technique and brought it to a convention and found that the more it was handled, the more "squished" it got. Dread to think what the postal machine would do to it. Think if it gets mailed, it would need quite a bit of protection. The less handling, the better, but so worth it!
@@handiscandi Sorry, no photos, it was quite a while ago. Everyone at the convention just loved it, hence its somewhat squished state. Still pretty though. I used a lovely swirled patterned embossing folder so that I didn't have to worry too much about matching the pattern. It is packed away for a move to house with a bigger craft room.
These are so cool. I have never seen anything like this before, although I think Tim holtz has some kind of special paper that is foil that he has shown for alcohol ink. I like your idea of sticker paper and foil rather than a special supply. I look forward to seeing what you create with these.
Yeah I think Tim's is like a glittery silver stock. If I remember correctly. If you get the sticker paper from Amazon is inexpensive and will last forever
I find I use crafting to relax I love the colours etc. But there are times I just can’t do it! I have a mental block. So generally I change from card making to sewing or crochet. 🥰
I'm so glad that you have an alternative means of creativity. When I hit a block, I usually will clean the craft room, or work on backgrounds... Just get inky and messy with no plan. Just allow whatever creativity is left to drive the process
These are simply stunning! I also love them all but the Quatre foil one had my fav colors. 🥰 Thanks for sharing this cool technique with us, really enjoyed watching these come to life 🤗🙏
I love the quatrefoil as well. I adore that type of pattern, and I agree that this colors are lovely. This is the workshop where I learned the technique. It's with the money!! nathaliesstudio.com/learn/online-workshops/beyond-the-paper/
Mind blown 🤯 love the all.. meh on the woodland one.. wowzers on diamonds! Adore your tips and tricks. This would make wonderful flat embellishments charms. Thanks Hugs and happy New year
Gorgeous backgrounds 😻 I love your color choices, the embossing folder and I think they are all unique. I have only seen Tim Holtz do it on the silver from he's collection ❤ thanks for sharing your creativity Hugs xx
Yes ma'am! I actually did make them into cards and there's another video. You can find it linked in the description box of this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-py2xai5RjvU.htmlsi=AODf3HmIba1cflsX
The brown and green one is delicious! They are all so pretty but I keep looking at that one particularly and think the embossing is what I really like to show off the colors. What embossing folder did you use for the blue/green/purple panel? I've never seen one anywhere near like that one - I want to get one, also!
Green and brown is one of my all-time favorite color combos! So I understand how that can pull you in. The folder you're referring to with the blue purple and green color combo is from Simon says stamp, it was part of their Christmas release last year I believe... I think it's called Scandinavian. I have a couple other videos using tin foil as well. If you like this one you might like those as well.
It actually was a one-sided sticker sheet. But yes, to answer the question it was added to the back of the foil before I put it through the embossing folder. It gave it some extra stability
The sticker paper I have is. I'd think it'd be the same for all of them, but I can only speak this one. The paper on the back side of the sticker sheets is why I didn't need the cardstock for stability.
Yes, for sure. The adhesive sheet gives the foil more weight and makes it more sturdy so it can tags the pressure of the embossing machine. Great question!
I just tried this and the alcohol ink beads up on the foil, even if I use the pad to blend. I tried three different brands including 2 Ranger products. Any ideas? Thanks.
I'm no chemist, but my guess would be there's something with the foil itself causing the ink to bead up. I don't know what brand you have, or what thickness... But if you have different foil try that. The foil that I've been using is just very thin basic Walmart brand kitchen foil.
That is a really good question. My knee jerk thought is probably not because they are water based and do not adhere to non-porous surfaces. But give it a try. Let me know your results!
Thank you for sharing this Nancy! It's truly amazing what these alcohol inks can do! I have a question for you!!! What is the name of the embossing folder that has the circles on it? I've searched around on the internet, but I've had no luck in finding this one.
Hi. Welcome to out little crafty tribe! That one is from Joanne's. I found it for you: www.joann.com/park-lane-5x7-embossing-folder-brush-dots/15883929.html
Wow, these are amazing! As green is my favorite color, I do like the green leaves best. Do you think this works best with 2D or 3D embossing folders? Will you do a video where you make these into cards? I would love to see that. You have wonderful ideas... I don't know why you don't have more subscribers. Love your videos!
Aww you're so kind. Thank you. Some on my folders are 2d, like the leaves, the dots, dahlias... and the 3d ones are the two from Simon says stamp like the damask, Nordic Christmas and the biggest one from Altenew. I can't commit to making a video on the actual cardmaking, I'll try, but I'll definitely share in FB and IG
For clarification, are you asking if I did that? I did not add any stickers. If you're referring to the adhesive panel that was put on before the embossing as well
@elliomoonarts9582 I have a playlist of videos in which I use tin foil. I know I show that process in a couple of them. I wish that I knew which videos show that process but unfortunately I don't, but here is a link to that playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLECh1K0jPb_Ic5nzeasOJK8haBesLS0b_&si=2JAExd0UV7hM6YQi What I can tell you is that it should be at the very beginning of the video, so should be quick to find.
That is a Darice folder, called Quatrefoil. I did a quick search for you and found it at Wal-Mart (out of stock), on Ebay (more expensive), etc. but this will take you to the least expensive on I found: joanscraftworld.com/product/darice-embossing-folder-4-25-x-5-75-quatrefoil-double/ I do not know this vendor and have never had any dealings with them, they are simply the option that popped up in my search, with the least expensive folder. I purchased mine from Joann years ago. If you search quatrefoil on other sites you'll find other folder options as well as potentially stamps, dies, patterned paper, etc. Hope this helps
Thank you very much for your help@@handiscandi . I have the folder now and love the folder and the technique. Many greetings from Germany and merry Christmas
