I spray my ink picture with krylon and let it dry, before I doodle! It keeps the ink from coming off and then you can use almost any pen to doodle or write on it! 😊

I tried krylon workable fixative and it took the color of the alcohol away as did it when I tried clear acrylic sealer by Patricia Nimocks. Mod podge has a matt clear acrylic sealer. So I tried that. Not as speckled as the other two, however my micron pen smeared.

When I was a lot younger with better eyesight I did a lot of doodling. In fact back when I had a paying job we would have weekly meetings. That was a big doodle time for me. Never got in trouble as I was able to doodle and participate. Meetings were the bane of our work lives and seldom added any benefits. Love your work on Yuppo. I have tho pads of Yuppo and am going to get some out with my alcohol inks. You really inspire me!

Saw this today July 21, 2023. Beautiful. I’m a card maker and just getting into intuitive art. I’ve been reluctant to use alcohol inks ( in my stash). Thought they were messy not only to work with but to look at. You turn the messy inky blobs into beautiful flowers and leaves. Now I want to give it a try. Thanks CeeCee for sharing your gift on you tube!💛

Love this CC, so I decided to give it a go! Mine did not turn out quite as nice, oh well I need to practice a bit but hate to use up expensive Yupo paper. So..... I decided to try adding gloss gel medium to a piece of watercolor paper and let it dry really well. It worked very similar to Yupo with the exception of some texture due to the application process, but I liked it. The alcohol ink spreads out like on Yupo and it’s quite a durable surface. I also have a limited supply of alcohol inks, so I made a few colors with India ink and isopropyl alcohol and placed them in small bottles, works perfectly! Thought I would pass this along. Keep the awesome videos coming. 💖🎨

With the yupo you can use both sides. If you don't like one side then just turn over. Also the ones you don't like are good for experimenting with doodling or with different types of sealers. The other thing I use these 'failures' for is checking the amount of ink is in my pen. Photo paper is good too.

CeeCee, I appreciate you sharing your work. You do a wonderful job with giving general ideas and demonstrating your approach. Alcohol ink is my number one choice in a medium to play with. I enjoy doing tangle work, and alcohol ink is a great background to utilize with a more free use of tangles...just as you do with "doodles". One thing you need to do to finish an alcohol piece is to spray surface for UV protection(Krylon UV-Resistant Clear), because sun light really fades the color to nothing over time. Also, a coat of clear glaze(I use Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze) as a protective finish especially if you do not frame the piece. Many products will destroy you alcohol ink; this was recommended to me by a couple artist (and on Pinterest), and has served me well. As far as techniques go, playing is the best way to discover new applications. Usually trying to "do something" with an area you don't like. The alcohol ink works well to come back to a day or two later and use some blending solution on an area and swish with a straw, blow with a straw, or roll the puddle around a little to "erase" and give the area a new base layer or finished look. These are just a few suggestions. It is a freeing, zen, color explosion, form of art. Big pieces can be used as a full art piece, or cut down into any size or area that works for you, including ATC/bookmark size. Also fun to use elements in collage of all alcohol ink, or focal points in mixed media collage. Hope I have given you a spark to work with today, since you often offer that to me. I enjoyed (always wonderful to have joy in your life)and loved viewing your approach in the video today. Thank you.

thank you so very much, Monica, for all your tips and for sharing your enthusiasm with this art medium. i have played a bit with the straw technique on velum paper in another video and have thoroughly enjoyed it as well. i love the unpredictability. would Krylon's Kamar varnish work as a sealer? so far, i've only done pieces that would be included either in a journal or a notebook so the pieces are not really exposed to air nor sun so i'm not too concerned about that. but i might want to make a bigger piece one day and frame. i think it would look cool on a wall. once again, thanks so much for these invaluable ideas and tips. you've certainly inspired me to create more with this medium. have an awesome weekend full of creativity!
@monicaeggleton4510
@monicaeggleton4510 7 лет назад
creationsceecee ...I do not know about the varnish, try it on a scrap from a previous piece. I can tell you that many products have solvents that effect the alcohol and the color runs. I have had pieces hung up that lost their vibrancy before I started using the UV resistant spray (two layers). I forgot about spraying my outdoor end tables last year and knew in one week it wasn't going to last the summer. They were glass tops, and I did ink work on the bottom. I should have started with the UV spray, and then again on top of the ink, followed by triple thick gloss before reinstalling the glass into the tables. Maybe next year I will give it a try again. I have a couple small areas of pastel pink still visible which is nothing like the raspberry that was there. You are right about work that is inside a journal. I don't often finish my work on the same day I do the ink play, so I just make it part of my process to do the UV resistant to save my work. You can never recreate what you created before, so I have made it part of my process. Big pieces are awesome! Truly breathtaking...eye catchers, when framed and hung on your wall. I have given them as gifts, and they are on the wall the next time I visit. Like I said, I am partial to this form of abstract art.

I really enjoy working with alcohol ink and like you, I love doodling. I get lost in it, very zen for me. It's how I relax my mind. I've learned so much more from you and am inspired to get going on it again.
