I resonate a lot with this video. I really enjoy alcohol, from the history, to the creativity, to the community, but I understand the issues the come along with it. From drunk drivers, to abuse, to health issues, there are many negative aspects regarding alcohol. I for one love drinking, and the free spirit feeling that comes with a couple to a few drinks, but absolutely hate getting drunk. But thats why its so important to have people that educate others on how to have healthy relationships with alcohol. I recently have even started to enjoy non-alcoholic beers. There are great substitutes for those weeknight cravings or even as placebo drinks to sub in during nights of drinking to keep you from going too far. I appreciate this video and your openness to talk about this issue! One of my other favorite alcohol based channels on youtube is "Whiskey Tribe" and they do a quarterly "dry week" that their staff does and they encourage all of their viewers to do as well to make sure everyone has a healthy relationship with alcohol free from dependency issues. Perhaps you could promote this kind of thing as well for your viewers as you continue to have an open dialogue of how to healthily appreciate and enjoy this historic, creative, and community filled passion that you have turned into your career!

Good for you for talking about this topic. Makes me love you even more. I have a bar in my home and before I let people come over I set expectations around what a good time means at my home and I always contribute to them taking an Uber versus driving to ensure everyone always has a good time, but never takes it too far. Keep doing what you’re doing Lui!

One thing I like about cocktails is that, for me at least, they encourage moderate drinking. There's only so much sugar / citrus I can enjoy before it gets too much. That, combined with the actual process of making a cocktail, tells my brain that these are a treat, meant to be enjoyed in moderation like any other treat.

Lui, I'm a one-drink-a-day guy, two ounces of liquor. I have it at 5:00. It relaxes me, enables me to shift gears and put the day behind me. I don't think it hurts me in any way. But I realize some folks can't stop and should abstain altogether. Good video Louie, from the heart.

@christinecamley
@christinecamley 23 дня назад
@@Lui_Fern I understand the anxiety Lui! It's actually healthy to have the anxiety! It's when people are super self-assured that nothing bad can happen that I start to get really worried. Sadly I see this trend a lot on alcohol-based RU-vid channels. One host is always drunk, very sad, and he probably shouldn't have a channel. Others call whisky their friend which is worrying. Alcohol is not anyone's friend. Trust me. The cost to the healthcare system alone is astronomical in alcohol-related diseases and with accidents. I applaud you for speaking about a personal connection such as one of your grandpas. My older brother has alcohol-related dementia. It's absolutely okay that you love spirits. Scotch is my hobby. I am just very careful and especially as I have several close family members who have or had a serious alcohol use disorder. You are a really good guy and I think this is a fabulous video! Much care.

I had an alcoholic father who died at the bottom of a bottle. Shortly after, I got sober for 4 years (from drugs too) before re-introducing alcohol into my life. I did so mindfully and continue to do so. There is so much value in abstinence, there are moments that call for a drink. Where the moment is less about the drink and more about the people, the energy, the environment, the view. The alcoholic fixates on the drink, mistaking the Forrest for the Trees. Yes, alcohol is poison and has no medical benefit; however, imbibing can enhance an experience. But you will never know the middle without traveling to both ends of the spectrum. Moderation an allusive word, which, for most, will only become clear to you if quit. Practicing years of temperance is the still the most valuable experience I've had. If you drink and the idea of taking a year off scares you. Do it. Let that fear be a beacon calling you home. If you choose alcohol again, your relationship with it will change for the better.

Whichever one you like the best. You really inspire me to try anf get into the bartending profession. Think of it this way, Drinking is all about having a good time. Have enough to where you are still having a good time, have some water beside you and always have a friend to tell you if you've had to much. Also, can you show the measurments that you used in this drink, and If I can't fnd the Cachaca that you used, can I use the unaged Leblon kind that I love? Keep up the amazing content man. I like that you made this video, it's important be mindful of how alcohol affects your life and your relationship with it. I love that you keep it honest. I always say that alcohol is to be enjoyed, not abused. I'm drinking for the creativity and flavours of cocktails and spirits, not to get drunk or to self-medicate my emotions. Going to a bar and taking 10 tequila shots is a once or twice a year thing for me and I know my max. I also come from a family that did consume alcohol regularly and have members who did have issues with alcohol abuse and the other side which had one sparking wine at Christmas and that was it. That's why I try to not associate drinking with emotions, life events, parties, or consume it as a daily ritual. It's important for each individual to figure out the healthiest way for them to consume (or not consume) alcohol.

When I was ten years old, there was a Thanksgiving dinner where my aunt said that she loved the way that whiskey made her feel, but she hated the way it burned. I replied, “That’s the opposite of how I feel about whiskey.” The entire family turned to me and said in unison, “What does a ten year old child know about whiskey?” I replied, “I love the way it burns, but I hate the way it makes me feel.”

Thanks for your honesty & frankness, Lui. One of the unfortunate things I've noticed among some fellow agave spirits fans is claiming tequila has "health benefits," perhaps confusingly thinking that agavins, which may have some potential health benefits before distillation, still have them after or that any original health benefits outweigh the alcohol, which, as you said, has no health benefits. Is tequila in moderation better (or less bad) for those with blood sugar issues, for example? Yes. But that's not the same thing as bring "healthy." Everything in moderation. Keep doing what you do!

Excellent venture into a somewhat 'taboo' subject - questioning alcohol use. The whole bar thing, where we drink and then drive, is odd. First off great video you made some really fantastic points and Just to add-on if you drink daily or heavy i would look into the side effects that can happen from stopping suddenly alot of people die from quitting to abruptly seek a medical advice from your doctor and im not a doctor myself but i saw a video that if you drink alot and can stop but you want to safely you have to taper off your alcohol % and amount slowly for example if you drink whiskey slowly switch to beers because the alcohol % is lower if you drink say 4+ beers try only having 3 and taper to nothing even though tapering is safer then quitting cold turkey when you have been drinking alot for years you still should have a medical professional to seek advice or give encouragement because its not just the stopping drinking thats the hard part its the mental battle of why you got into a toxic relationship with alcohol in the first place that makes it hard for people to stop to begin with when they feel they lost control much love to all of you if your struggleing you dont have to do it alone there are lots of people who have felt defeated in there addiction so dont make yourself feel bad for it just be honest with yourself an loving if you are thinking about quitting i believe in you and im proud of you you can do it

A good topic to mention and address with others and yourself often. I will say I didn’t follow the argument for friends and ceremonial aspects as much in this content. Bottomline, some alcohol, a lot actually, just taste good. Ice cream and sugar is poison of another kind, which is why you shouldn’t abuse that either. Is having a small bowl of ice cream several times a week bad? For you to decide just like alcohol

First you have to find it, which will cut your drinking way down, The next is the cost when you can find it. And third is pour an ounce and taste it over and over again. That will take you about an hour or so per ounce because IT'S SO DAMN GOOD! A statement of “it’s all terrible for you” is ignorant. Wine and whiskey have health benefits (antioxidants) but the key is moderation. You did touch on the second point. From ChatGPT: Alcohol in moderation is generally considered acceptable for most adults and may even have some potential health benefits. However, the effects of alcohol can vary widely depending on individual factors such as genetics, existing health conditions, and lifestyle. Here are some key points to consider: Potential Benefits of Moderate Alcohol Consumption 1. Cardiovascular Health: Some studies suggest that moderate alcohol consumption, particularly of red wine, may be associated with a reduced risk of heart disease due to the presence of antioxidants like resveratrol. 2. Social and Psychological Effects: Moderate alcohol consumption in social settings can enhance social bonding and relaxation.

The fact is yes its bad but a lot of thing in life are bad and sometimes reducing the stresses of life with a good drink can have mental benefits.

Loved this video @Lui_Fern and the great discussion about the awesome responsibility we have as cockail creators. Thank you! And among those awesome responsibilities is coming up with a fun (and not already taken) name for your creations! Sadly, the first names that came to me for your cockail were already taken (Locked and Loaded, Carioca). So how about these: Rio Revolver, Cafe' Carioca, or Brazilian Blackjack?

Wonderful video, good for all of us to think about this and be observant and unafraid to point out trepidations we might have related to this issue in our friends and family. A name for the drink? A sunny Chaffeebon? Sunny = orange bitters +peel ca-CHA-ca co-FFEE bour-BON Silly I know but so is alcohol sometimes as well as the people drinking it ;)

A nice video on a possibly sensitive subject. On the cocktail name, hopefully google translate was correct "Girando" in Portuguese means rotating. A revolver rotates and so can the wings of a hummingbird ( Colibri, the name of the Cachaça)

Bro, I miss the flavors from the cocktails I enjoyed the most when I used to drink. I miss those frothy and creamy Ramos gin fizz, and the refreshing taste of a whiskey sour with freshly squeezed lemon and egg whites. But ever since I stopped drinking 5 years ago, I never felt healthier and more alive and productive in life. I think I’ll keep it this way. Cheers.
