A very inspirational and moving account from John. I was sober for 18months and started drinking again when my Mother fell poorly and passed away. Thankfully I'm now back on track. One of the ways I help maintain my sobriety is by watching / listening to people tell their stories and John's has energised me so thankyou for sharing. I actually live quite close to John's home in Scotland (Dundee) and I would very much like to meet up with him for a coffee the next time he is back in Scotland. If you would be so kind as to pass on my thoughts to John and see if he has a spare half hour for a blether I would really appreciate it. Thank you to you too for encouraging John to tell his story - you were right to do so and I've no doubt that many people will have been inspired to take the first steps to sobriety and that will be because of you. Thankyou. Rob
'When writing or speaking publicly about alcoholism, we urge each of our Fellowship to omit his personal name, designating himself instead as "a member of Alcoholics Anonymous." Very earnestly we ask the press also, to observe this request, for otherwise we shall be greatly handicapped." From the book, 'Alcoholics Anonymous' Foreword to first edition. I've noticed that if I quit. I go back and my tolerance is still at the level it was before. But somehow, my tolerance then ramps up. Luckily I never got addicted, but I was drinking nearly 80 units at a weekend
