I'am a Botanical Sanctuary with United Plant Saver's near Portland, Oregon. There are many amazing Alder Trees here 30 to 50years old. They are not appreciated by neighbor's & most people consider them a weed tree but they have always held magic to me. They make amazing baskets too & having your hands turn red in the process is a perk:) Thank you for showing them some love & care!
I love putting Alder in balms, it really soothes the sore body. This is such a beautiful tree that can help in so many ways. Thx for sharing your knowledge!
@@OG1919 Absolutely! There is no money in cures, unfortunately. We still make sure that everyone knows, as they are receiving the Native teachings, that this is not ever to be done for monetary gain. Medicine was given to us and it is not our right to sell it.
Great work Yarrow. You're a blessing for people and society. We live in a world quickly profiting from sickness, pain, disruption, and separation. We need to harness, develop, and secure an environment to create a safe space to heal people properly. It's a sick business of wasted time, literally.
I started making tincture just from twigs and catkins since I dont dare to harm the tree myself but yesterday I found freshly fallen big branch so I brought it home. Gonna add it to tinkctre, dry the rest and probably make oil infusion. Very exciting. It is my first time working with Alder. We have red colored smooth bark here in northern nevada. Beautiful and lash, grows right in the water.
This is one of my favorite trees. Great for all the reason you mentioned plus I think the wood is a fabulous furniture wood. Red Alder also coppices very well so one tree can provide a lot of firewood or chop and drop mulch.
Thanks much. I've alder stands growing beside the brook flowing through my farm. We're also part of the the United Plant Savers sanctuary network, and as a student herbalist, I truly appreciate your lessons: very information and so well delivered. Thanks.
Alder! Thank you so much Yarrow! I love the Alder tree, especially from its meaning in the ogham system, and now you have told us so many practical medicine uses of this remarkable tree. Big hugs! I appreciate your work so much.
Thank you! Alder grows in my creek bottom. ! And I have RA. I love mother earth! And am so grateful for your sharing it's wonderful energetic properties.
Thank you so much for this. I seen something like Alder when I was walking around the river and I wasn't sure what it was. Now that you came out with this video I am certain it is Alder. Now I just need to find out which Alder it is.
Thank you so much. One time I was very sick and had swollen glands and my throat was closing. I forgot I had made an Alder Bark Tincture. I can’t remember how much I took but probably 1 to 2 ml quite frequently in the beginning and within a day and a half my throat and swollen glands magically disappeared. I had read about not taking larger doses long term so I was very happy with my results. My ancestors were Vikings and not sure if that helped!! :)
I love this medicine. I started using it last year and I definitely saw how it cleared the lymphatic system. Will definitely be experimenting more with it.
Wow, I've watched this video for about an hr or so. Taking notes. There are many of them growing in the land I live in. So, so wonderful information! My ointment recipe for arthritis is gonna be improved with Alder from now on! Thanks SO much for your time, energy & effort. Many Blessings on your way 🌟
A truly lovely tree but maybe not in a tiny garden. Just over 2 years ago I planted what I thought was a hazel sapling from my daughter's garden and it is now much too tall. It's as tall as the house and only last week did my brother identify it and read that it could grow to 90 feet.
Speaking of things coming out of your body. I had bought a bottle of olive leaf extract, and had taken all but one capsule with no problem. Several months later, I took the remaining capsule. I don't know what changed, but I expelled everything in my body, from both ends. It was brutal.
@@LilyGazou ~ No problem. I thought I had caught a stomach virus, so I took a capsule from a new bottle, a couple weeks later, and had the same experience. Then I found a forum on olive leaf, and read other people had that side effect. It was horrible! I probably lost 5 lbs. in an hour.
I believe one of these seeded right in the middle if my garden last year and I have been thinking about relocating it to another suitable place because I thought it was a birch tree and did not want it to shade the garden or for its roots to take over the area but with all the properties you have mentioned especially in regards to the soil I'm reconsidering. Thank you for all your helpful knowledge on this tree.
You can prune it back in your garden and it will coppice (make lots of new shoots) so you can have lots of bark and spring leaves to use and keep it pruned short to not shade your garden. I a doing the same thing with my food forest fruit trees in my garden, keeping them pruned short to let the sun into the garden all around the fruit and nut trees.
I love alders perfume it puts off in the spring. Thank you for showing me why i was attracted to it. I have some health issues. I will be making some tincture and salve for sure. Thx 💚✌️
I didn't know the bit about how the wood hardens in water...Neat. I wonder how it relates to how it creates a hard leather when used as a tanning solution.
Do you think that by harvesting different parts of the plant at different times of the year and sequentially adding them to a tincture (roots in the winter time, catkins in Spring, new leaves and twig tips a little later etc etc etc) will produce a tincture that has it ALL, all the strongest and best benefits of that plant across the spectrum of a growing year?
Hmmm Kinda like with Echinacea Flowers & Leaves & Roots or Dandelion Flowers , Leaves & Roots ? 🙏 💜 Love Your Way of Teaching @Yarrow - You Bring Much 💖 Love & 💫 Light💫 With Your Words of Knowledge Sir 😍 IAm Smiling The Whole Time Iam Watching Your Video’s & This Video is Only My 2nd as I was Guided To You From Another Human on YT who is of Amazing Light💫💫💫 Much 🙏💖Gratitude I have made many tinctures & Salves in this Life but Tree🌲Medicine is Totally New To Me ( except for Willow Bark Tincture ) Willow has Always Been My Favorite Tree 🌳 & Now I have Found My 2nd Red Alder 🥰
Oh... So this was what my aunties put into their rum. It turns the rum into a deep red sort of like colour. I can assure everyone that it is indeed a potent medicine. Thanks for sharing. 🥸
I'm trying to figure out if Alder grows up here on the southern end of the Cumberland Plateau TN. I guess Witch Hazel grows up here (a relative) can it be used the same way? Oh, by the way... I love your videos!
I am in southern, middle TN! I am just learning about growing anything really, so this is all fascinating to me. I know the Agricultural Extension Office is where people go to ask questions about plants around here. Maybe they will have something like that in your area so they can identify plants/trees and things like that for you...if that would even be helpful for you. 😊
I like to combine alder and yarrow in hot water. It works really well for me. I don't have access to alcohol to make tinctures and I am on a sobriety track so walking into an alcohol store is a dangerous situation. Lol! I was on the hunt to see if some other free alcohol forming method would work for tinctures but I've otherwise made uh like teas and have let them stand for a week or so idk
Hey do you know anything about alder buckthorn? I’ve been learning plants around my yard instead of just destroying them and I have a full grown tree with lots of black fruits any medicinal uses or other uses thanks for any info 🌈🦋💛☀️
do you know if the north american red alder have similar medicinal benefits tot he european alder? this medicine could be such an important one in my life but i am in the uk.. thanks for your generosity
I've recently gathered old branches cones and catkins from our recent storms..u work with young trees on this vid, can I still use the old brittle branches?.. ours is higher than 2houses stacked, magnificent, it blows me away with its height looking up into it...and yes.. garbage u got that right it's on the corner with all the community recycling bins. I see you don't respond to people's questions so am unassured as to how I harvest ..as no particular clear instructions..ok to just chew on bark ? Of spindly brittle branches, how do you use the cones n catkins ?

Hi Herbal Jedi, do you see people for natural medicine. I been using the meadowsweet for my stomach after seen the video of it and wondering if I can add Alder to it. I also having multiple hight blood cells and it help with that as well. Please tell me if you see people for natural health. Thank you and blessings
Curious how viable the medicine is from dying alders. There was an ice storm in Oregon that wiped out an Alder forest on their property. Every tree was stripped. Now their is so much wood to deal with. I like the idea of doing shiitake log stacks, and Hugo beds.

Can you explain more about warm/cold, dry/wet people. I hope that makes sense... I think I’m cold and dry because I’m cold natured and my skin is alway dry
Sara, You sound cold. Dry skin is not a sign of dryness in Chinese medicine. The sign to tell if one is dry or moist is to think about the digestive system and answer is one's bowel movement tend to be moist or dry. Blessings.
