I worked as a fitter in several food factories over the years and you'd be amazed at how many products go in different packages to different supermarkets with vastly different pricing! Yet it's the exact same product!
@@shinlee3921 chicken. M&S DICED breast 4.50 for 250g exact same went tesco for 2.50. There was tons of different examples of chicken like this. Cathedral city cheese used to be exactly the same as asdas own brand and it was half the price.
@@shinlee3921 when I was at college I had a twilight shift at a chicken factory. Marks and Spencer came out from the same production line as Morrison’s own brand and Buxted brand and unbranded. When the bigwigs from Marks &Sparks came to visit we all had to be super clean, health & safety, clothes etc.
When i was at university one of my friends had worked in a biscuit factory. There were no particular posh ones or cheap ones. Some went in Happy shopper boxes, others in m&s boxes. They were all the same product but the packaging determined the market and the price! I'm sure this happens with hundreds of products that we buy x
I had a friend a few years ago who used to buy Aldi coffee, but two other 'friends' who'd pop over said they didn't like it. So she got an empty Nescafe jar off her mum, put the Aldi coffee in and they thought it was much better 🤔🤣
A school I delivered to tried to do that with a cheaper version of tomato ketchup and they failed they put the cheap ketchup in a Heinz container but the children weren't having it. In the end they got their Heinz condiments.
We do that with my mum it’s all in their head my mum turns her noise at so much stuff it was our uncle who said to put the cheap one in there she won’t know the difference and she really doesn’t
This is a great review Gaz, just shows you how many other identical products are put in different boxes, and charging the public loads more money! You are going to save people lots of money on this one, well done 👍🏻😋
I used to work at a chicken factory and we used to do farm foods chicken steaks and when we finished they changed the boxes to Birdseye chicken steaks and used the same steaks even though they had different ingredients on the box.
Have thought for years that a lot of these products are made in the same factory , would like to see you do a coffee gold comparison coz am sure a lot of these are coming out of same factory with massively different prices. Good video.
Same factory doesn't mean same recipe, it's kind of a myth that gets put around a lot. It just makes sense to mass produce similar products in locations were the machinery is available to properly make them. Cheese is a good example, there's some cheese factories that make so many varieties of cheeses from different brands, because imagine if we had an industrial sized cheese factory for every brand. Doesn't make sense.
Great stuff Gareth! I have a very close contact who works for Aldi and can confirm that the Aldi chicken quarter pounders, arrive with 'Birds Eye' stickers on the external box!
Gareth, you mentioned that the burgers were so alike that they could have been made in the same factory. Some years ago I did some contract work at a leading brand frozen vegetable processing plant. I saw the whole process from the delivery of the vegetables by trucks, to the packaging at the end. The only difference in the end product was the name on the packaging label. There were several different popular brand names and also a few generic brands. The product in the packages was exactly the same. That is why, when I buy frozen vegetables now, I usually go for the generic brand which is often less than half the price of the leading brand names.
I've had the Bird's Eye ones. They were on offer when I bought them in Asda about six weeks ago... a pack of 2 for £1. They were really nice. I liked the nice crunchy texture of the coating. I've added the Aldi ones to my shopping list now. Thanks Gareth 🙂👍
I used to work in the printing and packaging industry and loads of products are made by one company and the same product is packaged in to different boxes for different companies, no reason why these burgers weren’t produced in the same factory as they looked identical with almost identical ingredients etc….so going budget for the same product will save you loadsa dosh! 👍
By law they have to lable the factory info where the produce is from. If that was the case eveythting would have the same info on the box. No need to make a story up just to try convice people cheap food is the same as the high priced stuff. When in fact the this is not true at all. Birds eye have there own factory they don't produce any for aldi at all.
Glad you tried this comparison, I was going to suggest to compare these two myself. I have a few packets of the Aldi quarter pounders in the freezer. Go well with a burger bun and some BBQ sauce.
Gareth, 🍽I just ate the tastiest Aldi ready meal I have ever had. It was over £3 but worth it. WILTSHIRE CURED HAM GRATIN. I used the oven and made sure the top was crispy. I ate Aldi green beans with it, so it was a sunstantial meal. Soooo cheesy and crispy.🍽
I used to do my weekly shop at Tesco. Got fed up with the increases in price together with the failing quality of fresh meat, fruit and veg, Went to ALDI and found the cost and quality to my advantage. The result has been a £600 to £700 annual tax free pay rise. People take their Waitrose and M&S shopping bags but the contents are from ALDI 😂 😂
When an Aldi opened in my area several years ago this wonan blurted out to me without any prompting from anyone at all that she was now saving £30 a week. That's probably £40 a week at today's prices.
I have not tried the Aldi ones but have the Birds eye. I love them. I dont have the bun, but I put the chicken burger on top of lettuce, then top burger with cheese, sliced gherkins and Peri Peri mayo..yummy
Hi Gareth hope all’s well. Only if we had an Aldi here I’d try them 🤦♀️ We seem to be the poor relations over here in Co-Down. They might do something like that in Lidl though 🤔 If you can’t detect the difference in them then as you say “they’re a no brainer” Thanks for your review Gareth, just goes to show it’s not always the dearer one that wins in these cook offs. 😘xxx
They would be made at the same factory, slightly different ingredients. I know a guy who worked at a fresh juice factory, they produced Orange juice for Aldi, Woolworths, Coles etc. The difference was the processing, they had their own ways the Supermarket wanted it processed. Aldi was the best 100% fresh Orange juice with pulp. 99% fresh Orange juice without pulp. No preservatives at all. Cheers Debra from Melbourne Australia xxx
Ive had the Birds eye one's but never seen the Aldi one's going to get some the next time I'm in Aldi. The Aldi one's has less Saturated fat which has to be better for you even if the salt and sugar are slightly higher and they are cheaper. Great review thanks.
Another money saver I was on a union course and one of the guys worked at a printers and did labels for cans of food the premium labels used more colours as they could charge more but the budget stuff used fewer colours to save money
Good reviews there once again, why not pop the buns in the air fryer come out lovely& crispy much quicker. Just a thought. Thanks again for your honest review. Sarah Wigan
Well, 'this is them' and . . . this what it's all about; a decent, proper, unbiased review, saving foodies money. I've suggested on your previous comparative reviews, quite literally . . . priceless! I was convinced you had done a 'bean off', if you have Gareth, I can't find it? It got me thinking how much could you save foodies if you did a complete meal using the best value cheapest foods you have reviewed, even just working it out? This is a first class review again, keep it up pal.
@@BaldFoodieGuy Thanks pal, I'll have another look. All the best to you and yours. Wee parcel will be making its way to you soon once I do a bit of research at the weekend. 👍
I always get the Birds Eye ones from Asda when its £1 for the box of 2 quarter pounders. The rice crispy coating was a bit unusual at first, but surprisingly tasty. Have you tried the fish quarter pounders yet? Sometimes on offer in Asda for £1.50 for a pack of 2 burgers.
ALDI win again.. the thing here is you are right .. ( no difference) a lot of factories ( like the one in my town) make the same thing and put them in different boxes.. ..
I love the Roosters ones, haven't had the Birds eye ones but they do look the same. I make them up in a roll or a wrap with a few chips and they make a great meal/snack
Nice 1 Gaz been buying them from Aldi a while, good to know they are up to the same standard as the Birdseye! Got it get me an airfryer, you got a review of yours?
Bird's-eye need to raise their game. Years ago they got away with being one of only a few makers of stuff like this. Now there are many more better store made options available.
Gaz , a suggestion for a future video. Go to Tesco and buy two jars of curry paste. I suggest Jamie Oliver's Madras and the equivalent Pataks/Sharwoods. Make two similar curries using just (for each) half a chopped onion, a small tin of chopped tomatoes, and a diced chicken breast. The comparison should be interesting. Cheers mate.
I always buy the birdseye ones, but looking at your video I would say they are the same burgers, the packing code is identical , but it's on a lot of birdeye produce, they do taste good , I like a little bit of Branston pickle on mine , wife says I'm a disgusting pig lol great video again mate, keep safe
There's a large food factory near me and I know they produce all kinds of pizzas, burgers, pies, and prepacked salads for various retailers. Just a slight tweak of the recipe, a different box and bingo! But this approach only works when the food is up to standard. I can remember, many years ago now, that Aldi and Lidl products were noticeably inferior in taste, but both these retailers have worked really hard in recent years to raise the quality as it was the only way to go. I expect they have a really efficient research kitchen and team, plus both companies are ruthless when it comes to turning a profit.
Probably made on the same factory line. They just get split to the different boxes, but are identical! Thanks for the review, Gareth. Now I want chicken burgers for dinner.. 😂
Literally had these for tea tonight but bought from Tesco. Usually have em once a month in rolls salad and mayo. Some wedges too. I think i paid even more. You usually find that most stores have same content in different packaging. The Frank's sauce looks lush, Gaz
Well blow me down, what a cracking bugger off that was. Like two peas in a pod, no difference. Roosters are the ones for me. That was that brilliant as usual ☺️😂
Sorry to have a 'dig' , but one of your other videos you liked the 'more expensive one just because of the batter. Did the meat taste the same or not ? Maybe a slight more test tasting. DO enjoy what you do. Keep it coming.
Great honest review gareth and seen as you could not tell the difference it's a no brainer but I am not the biggest fan of the rice style coating I much prefer batter coating a bit of lettuce and mayonnaise yum yum PS nice twist adding hot sauce 👍👍🍔🍔🍗🍗🌶🌶
Cheers buddy both looks good but you never tried the bird’s eye one in a bun . But I’m sure they both tasted exactly the same . Probably made in the same factory. Do you know where they sell that sauce . Thanks Gareth great review. 👍
I have worked in several food factories over the years, Speedibake and Cranshaws to name a couple and the only difference in quality is in packaging. Happy shopper, Tesco, waitrose etc garlic bread was identical products cooked on the same line. Same with sliced meats and pies, M&S, CO-OP, Tescos, Aldi are all supplied from the same packaging firm. Sometimes the cuts may differ in thickness but the meats are identical.
We have a cracking Aldi where I live, along with an absolutely brilliant Iceland Food Warehouse. My wife does most of our shopping at Aldi; and I get my favourite stuff from Food Warehouse once a month. We nearly always go for Aldi and Iceland products over brands such as Birdseye.
The birds eye ones are awful. That coating ruins it. I ate it as I was hungry but didn't enjoy it one bit. Don't waste your money unless you like coating which is popped rice filled with oil.
Hi I've just seen your aldi v bird's-eye chicken burger video, really appreciated it as the birds eye ones are a favourite in our house but quite expensive! I didn't realise there was anything to compare with them available so thankyou ! X
I tried those Glenhaven Chinese style tempura chicken balls that you did a video on over Christmas.....really really good, very tasty ...£3 for , I think , 16 pieces ! Lovely chicken , no ' bits' or gristle!! Good video again!😎
@@BaldFoodieGuy no problem...lots of people think I am giving my name back to front! At least the days are stretching a bit now...bit lighter at teatime
the program is called smash fishing...its based in guernsey where they only eat foraged food from the sea..definitly worth a watch it even shows you how to shell a lobster lol......
I love the Bird's Eye quarter pounders but only buy them when they are on offer at £1 for the two pack in Sainsburys. I don't have an Aldi near me, as I have two Lidls nearby and apparently they don't compete with each other. Or so I've been told.
I usually turn my toaster on and just put the buns on to the top.. It works sound n just keep turning them round... But careful not to burn them.. Have you not got a herons freezer shop near you?
I searched or Franks Habanero sauce but it seems only Morrisons sell it. The nearest Morrisons to me is 20 miles away. Other supermarkets sell Franks red sauces but not the Habanero one. I live in south Dorset.
got my air fryer!! brilliant! Thanks,.. wasn't keen on these though,ok,.. I think I need to add a few things like you did....i did eat 4 though so that might be part of the problem!!
I tried the no bull plant based pies and pasties from Iceland i quite liked them something different good to know these chicken burgers are basically the same product saves some money .
Nice review today Gareth. It was a really good comparison between the two chicken breast burgers. Shame you didn't weigh them to see just how close % of weight there was between them. The 2 burgers with the Frank's looked superb 🤤 Mate we are in a chicken famine here in Australia because omicron has production staff out of work. Even KFC has cut some items and rationing the amount of chicken one can buy. Hardly a chook on supermarket shelves 😕. Cheers 👍😀🇦🇺
Yes I was going to weigh them but they said they were quarter Pounders so took it as was. Still got some left. Might weigh them later. All the best pal. 👍👍
Hi there another fantastic video like always brilliant insight the difference between the two and the cost as well brilliant review like you always are keep up the good work
I expected the cheeper ones to taste fowl 🤣🤣🤣 but they both look eggxactly the same sorry couldn't resist they actually look quite good mite have to sample them soon great review as usual keep up the good work and stay safe out there from joff the trucker
