Can you please show us where the marker is on this thing and how to use it ? Aldi how to detect wires and gas pipes -I’m trying to put up a towel rack on the wall in bathroom that is shared with kitchen-there’s a wall oven and a gas stove in that wall do I scared of hitting any wiring etc ..I’m a novice obviously lol.
Thanks for the video. It's been rubbish for me. Indicates entire walls as being live and then misses cables in others. Stud finder works when I hold a bit of wood behind some thin ceiling plasterboard cut-off, but fails on my actual walls.
Hi Alex, thanks for your comment, what do you think of it? I am still on the fence about it, I find that when testing it for AC, it’s ok for detecting a live source, such as a plug socket that’s in your face but the internal wiring then not so much, it’s better when you set it to metal instead
Aye am still on the fence about it 😁 I've noticed when checking for studs it seems the stud is a lot more thicker than a couple of inches ? 😁 but if it keeps you right in some way then it's better than nothing I guess 😁
@@obi-wankenobi8043 yeah, I actually had a read of the instructions (shock horror lol) if you take a reading one way and mark the detection point and then recalibrate and do a reading the opposite way and mark the detection point, the studs in the Center of the two marks .. I think :)
@Vinny Mars aye even when it says 70 mm depth with AC I find it doesn't pick up the live wire as good as using metal or deep mode which is 40 mm and 45 mm 👷
Hi Vinnie, thanks for this video, it's really good, and your desk setup aint so bad either. I paid out nearly £50 at Screwfix for a Bosch cable finder and it drove me round the bed. Everything was a hit and I still didn't know where it was safe to drill - needs a lot of practice which I couldn't do at the time. I bought this Ferrex yesterday at Aldi for £9.99! I was very sceptical as it was cheap. But having watched your video and had a play about for 5 minutes I got the hang of it. I really love the arrow indicator, it is highly accurate. Anyway, waffle over, thanks for your video (again) and I'll be looking out for more of them. By the way, the "AC" is for electrical lines to a max of 70mm, according to the instruction booklet. All the best
Hi Robert, thank you for taking the time out and posting your comments, I’m glad you enjoyed the video, because that’s really my shed and the weathers been atrocious for a while, I haven’t been doing videos, but hopefully ithe weather will pick up soon, got lots planned for the future. Once again thanks 🙏 best wishes
It’s a great price when you compare it how much a repair would cost, even if you use it just twice a year, one for your tool bag, thanks for you comment
I would to see it detecting AC 240v power cables and also copper water pipes embedded in the wall or in conduit. It's not good that the product was sold with a duff battery.
Nice one mate, I like your video, I bought this had for two years never used it as I just couldn't get my head around it your video made me understand it I will like and subscribe thanks.
I use this all the time in my Caravan and is bloody brilliant and good for safety whilst drilling into walls. Excellent Video Sir. Use Duracell 9V Batteries for durability in my experience and very cheap.
I used one of these and ended up doing £125,000 of damage to a house I was working on. I had almost finished the job (a full renovation) and I was putting the last floating shelf up. I used the stud finder option and it told me there was a wood baton there which I drilled into. Unfortunately it was a gas pipe and the next day when i came in to work, i lit a cigarette up. To my horror the house exploded and shot into the sky like a rocket. I opened the front door and I saw green grass and really tiny houses. It was then I realised the whole house was airborne. Luckily it was only a small detached cottage and it landed in a very large pile of soft freshly cut grass and hay. Which broke the fall. I ended up lifting the house on wheels and driving it back and putting it exactly where it came out from. Worked out ok in the end but I had to redo the foundations obviously, and other things which cost about £125k. Thats just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
Hi, thanks for your question, right, on AC, it’s better to use the ‘ Metal’ settings, that way it will detect the wire rather than looking for a live current, you have a better chance at deciding which direction the AC FEED is coming from, remember to calibrate every time you use it
