@Johnny Alucard Have you had a TimTam slammer? (see RU-vid video). Too bad you can't get the limited edition flaming hot 🌶️ Doritos flavour twisties or the cheddar cheese twisties. 💣
I was shocked when you said the price of the Greggs one. Put some gravy over the Aldi one and it'll go down a treat, I am definitely going to buy them.
I agree with Ann. I would serve with some cranberry sauce on the side. No way would I pay for the greggs one. Not when your trying to get value for money and too much difference in taste. I only have a lidl near me but def going to make the trip to Aldis as they generally get very good reviews.
Love how they make things "festive" by adding cranberry sauce. Might ask my mate Malik at Tandoori Plaza to put Cranberry Sauce on my Kebabs over Xmas.
Haha I guess you could apply this to anything couldn't you. Add some cranberry sauce to your breakfast cereal and tada ! Festive cornflakes ! Just like that 😄
It is Iceland who charge the price, not Greggs. Iceland are no longer the 'budget' friendly store they used to be, everything is way overpriced. We generally find with a lot of 'festive' products, the dominating flavour is sage and onion stuffing. I'm guessing it's because it is a cheap filler but the taste isn't for me. Just salty stuffing and not a lot else. A brie and cranberry bake would be nice
I suppose with Iceland they will put a mark up on to cover transportation, staff and overheads. Maybe it's all relative to what Greggs charge them. The beauty of Aldi is they have very low overheads, fewer staff, no fancy displays, limited range and very few 'named' brands. They pass the savings onto us 🥳
Watched a programme on TV last year where a factory made Christmas cakes, everything was done the same all the way through the mixing/baking process, the only difference was at the end of the production line where M&S/Aldi/Waitrose/Sainsbury's just had a different icing decoration on the top of the same cake, a real eye opener.
@@BaldFoodieGuy So whether you bought the cheap or dear one, it all tasted the same? Make your own - or get someone you know to make one - or go to an actual bakery - local ones are usually the best - although Gregg’s - despite being a national chain - bake a lot of their produce in each branch - why would anyone want to eat production line produce that has come from miles away and may not necessarily be fresh, when you can get it baked in the shop - might have to wait while it cooks - so, bosses - don’t put time caps on employees’ journeys to bakers’ shops - not if you want your sausage roll hot!
Your channel is so great for these inflation busting times. Just goes to show the level of profiteering going on. Heinz especially are taking the piss 🤣 Well done mate, 👍
13:31 "I do apologise for talking with my mouth open!!" LMAO!! You cracked me up then!! I know what you mean, unless your practising to become a ventriloquist?! 🤭🤐😉🤣 Kx
I believe many of Aldi's products are actually made by the same manufacturers that make the named brands. Mackay's jam is one prime example. Aldi's Mackies ice cream (I have it on good authority) is made by Mackies but they make the Aldi version with less cream 😮
Mate, you're an absolute legend! I love opening RU-vid™ and seeing your pleasant smile with new Aldi comparisons. Your vibrancy and positivity absolutely shines, my brother! Whatever life has thrown at you in the past, it's history! Keep on keeping on and don't look back!
Price 1 to 3! And Aldi can still manage to pay their employees a decent wage and make a profit to increase their business - just shows how ineffective or greedy their competitors must be!
I've just discovered your channel Gareth and have been binde watching. Absolutely brilliant mate. You have definitely put a few good ideas my way. Every little bit helps nowadays and you are doing good work. Cheers. I'm bindge watching I mean lol
Hi Gareth , I think with the price difference being so wide that customers may go for Aldi over greggs . I just tried Aldi 55p tined rice pudding , it’s extremely good creamy it’s not far off the Ambrose version compare ti £1.25 ti £1.40 a tin. Another great vid regards mark
Great review, Gareth. You'll ruffle a few Feathers with this one 😉🦃 Thank you. One Hell of a Price Difference, isn't there. Usually buy one of the Greggs version when I'm in Town. You can't beat them Think I'll give both of them a go ! Kind regards to you ! 👏😉
I went out and bought a box of the Aldi ones. I was pleasantly surprised by them. I putt them in the air fryer for 12 minutes since they weren't fully frozen by the time I cooked them. They were delicious
I tried the ALDI bakes and yes they are a little dry, but I found them tasty, but I do love stuffing. I like to see the sauce come pouring out when you cut in. Perhaps if they added 25p to the price, they could have affrded a litle more sauce.
There is a good chance they are made in the same factory. Maybe the difference was down to batch inconsistencies. As Saddaddrummer mentioned below, there are a lot of original products, with different brand names. The source of fruit and veg are generally the same also. I believe Waitrose and Sainsburys pay a little extra, to get first choice, when picking product quality. Good comparison video. :)
@@BaldFoodieGuy credit where credit is due. I should write more positive comments. In fact, I will. There are a lot of fake/no meat products out there. If you are up for comparing a fake burger, with a real meat burger, that would be good. However, I have read the list of ingredients on these fake/no meat products and most have a long list :/ and I don’t recognise many of them.
Gareth I bought the greggs pies 2 days ago and my son came round for lunch we had these gregg pies I personally was not keen on them my son liked them . BUT I Cannot justify each pie being one pound and fifty pence each. . So I will not be buying again.. keep up the good work.. your doing wonders ..
Another great video highlighting the nonsensical prices of the much loved "brands" ! I am one of those weirdos who loves cranberry sauce so I am drawn in to all these festive fancies🤣
I couldn't do my usual Tuesday big shop today (Aldi/Lidl/Morrisons), so I just got some items from Tesco. £20.06! It would have been around £3 cheaper in Aldi.
Bought my ingredients to make myself a festive toastie 🥪 got Turkey 🦃 slices, sausage, sage and onion 🧅 stuffing and cranberry sauce. Got gravy in cupboard too
They look delicious 😋 but after buying my instant pot I'm trying to eat clean... meaning as little ingredients as possible no point giving up alcohol if I'm gonna eat shite hahaha thanks Gareth
Most folk in the Furness area will remember Birketts. Greggs bought them out back in the late 90s leaving the Birkett family with just the award winning Tebay Services just off the M6. The still sold Birketts products made in Penrith but slowly gave way to their own suppliers. A real shame as Birketts Cheese & Onion slices and also the Elephants Foot (Coffee Puff) were outstanding. I tried both Greggs versions and they were dreadful. Powdered cheese in the pasties and shoe leather "Choux" in the coffee puffs (Along with the 33% reduction in size) Starting to look like Greggs is now more commercial than Aldi with their products. Nice find Gareth!
I, too, would prefer the Greggs with the creamier texture, but £1.50 each compared to 50p each, well, it's a hard decision. The Greggs festive bake costs £1.80 in the shop, according to the Metro.
Joke, I remember greggs being cheap, sausage roll used to be 42p, I wouldn't know for sure as haven't been in one for ages but I bet they're over a pound now?
@@danrowden3898 Yeah Christmas is Christmas. I loved it more as a kid because everyone gave me LEGO. I miss the Molly O'Rourke's whiskey flavour Christmas Cake, that came in a tin. When they stopped making them, I stopped liking Christmas so much.
I'm quite partial to the Crestwood 4-pack Chicken & Veg Pies, although they've really increased the price in recent months. Makes me think twice before buying now.
That is true fred,me and my lady used to swear buy aldi but the prices everywhere have shot up,bread/butter/cheese etc are now off the scale! We do online at asda now and save alot due to the fact that walking round a supermarket is more temptation and you end up buying what you dont really need
G'day Gareth. Mate I'd be on to the Aldi quick smart for (6) for the £3 equivalent to Greg's 👍😀 I sampled the Jameson Orange whiskey yesterday 😉👍😀 It warmed the toes a bit and I reckon it would go well in a boozy Christmas Cake. Cheers Gareth 😀
Just a big thank you for a most enjoyable way to spend an even, better than TV. We both love your presentation, you bring happiness into our home, Cheers
Gareth, a suggestion. have a swill of water in your mouth prior to start the taste test. That way your mouth will be similar to what it is prior to your tasting the second and any further products. Cheers
Mate, this maybe won't surprise you but a lot of products in the cheaper supermarkets are exactly the same in the more expensive ones. When I was younger I worked in a few factories and it was my job to put the stickers on the tins and packets, I don't remember much about the tins but I know that the rolls and sandwiches from Waitrose and M and Msand S were at the time just labeled differently that and were exactly the same as you would get at a service station or pound shop
These remind of the American ones “Hot pockets” but they are smaller than Aldi’s and Greg’s and cost around $2.99 for 2 in a box. Just noticed Elf On The Shelf sitting haha
I do like your reviews. Make refreshing change to some of the review/reaction videos out there. I appreciate the time and effort you go to. I am old skool and a northerner to boot so I say it how it is.
It's a shame I hate cranberries and cranberry sauce. There's so many festive food items that look delicious but I can't eat them because of the sauce. I know that it's because cranberry sauce is a festive staple with most people (except fuss-pots like me)
Did you say that clicking wasn’t your knees ?. You’d tell us anything, lol. I believe you, thousands wouldn’t, lol. Thanks again for doing food comparisons, i feel like it’s a virtual try before you buy.
Thanks Gareth for trying these, so I don't have to. I have given a like for the good no nonsense presentation. Due to the similarity between these two products I suspect they are made by the same company. The Aldi one being last years production sold off cheap but being limited in quantity, so get it while you can. Frozen food can be kept for years and still be safe to eat but it does degrade in quality over time. One of the noticeable changes is that it dries out (water can still evaporate when frozen). A lot of the frozen food suppliers will be trying to cut down on the amount of stock they store frozen because of the dramatic rise in energy costs. So we can expect a few frozen food bargains in the future.
By the same company but processed differently? I have tried both these and they are very different in taste and texture imo.. I like the Greggs more but at 99p the Aldi one is nice enough to save a few quid.
The prices of a good numbers of items in Iceland have become expensive now. I guess the cost of the exclusive brands like Greggs and the freezers they have to run are now catching up to them.
Try the Asda festive bakes in the chilled section they look good. Having said though though the Greggs products I'll always pay that extra for as it actually tastes like legit Greggs. Compared to most of the stuff iceland license and the food isn't what what would be served if you went to the proper place. So I'll always pay extra and it's still cheaper than going to actual Greggs.
Hi gaz , we've watched this video also the heinz v Bramwells chicken vegetable soup . I have tried all three of the soups from aldi . Chicken and veg Beef and veg And vegetable soup. They are all outstanding , heinz should be worried and looking over their shoulders . On a personal note we used to shop in various shops Inc lidls , we have gone over to aldi as their quality is spanking lidls bottom so to speak. I know the bigger super markets are set within the market and aldi and lidls are a fair way behind with their share of the marketplace . Watch out guys , give aldi and lidls 10 or so years in this climate and their share will increase 3 or 5 fold . Thanks for all the amazing videos Gareth.
Do you have a Cooplands near you? I noticed that they had their own version, I can't remember the price but they were a bit cheaper then the Greggs festive bakes.
what the Elfe is going on one minute in on the drinks machine behind you it's all clear then at six minutes in an Elfe appears😀, love the videos keep it up it has made me look at own brands more favorably instead of just buying main brands because thats what I have always done you have shown you can get just as good or better sometimes with own brands.
Hard to spot the difference but it was down to the tasting and down to the bottom of the pockets for the cash after the greggs. I would still have the aldi though and 3 times as much to share around at Christmas.
I'd be really interested in your take on the vegan sausage roll by Gregg's. I love meat as you do, but the vegan sausage roll they do is excellent. Anyway, keep em coming, you're very entertaining as well as being genuinely useful. All the best.
It’s remarkable how few products Aldi UK and Aldi USA have in common considering that they’re both run by Aldi South. I rarely see a product meant for the Brit market that’s available here in Florida. Maybe some of the German products are the same?
I’ve noticed with Iceland that they have taken advantage of high inflation and added some on for themselves. They masquerade as friend of the shopper but they’re not. The head of Iceland is on The Today programme every chance he gets telling us all the great things Iceland are doing to help people through the cost of living crisis . Some of the items have increased by 30-40% in a year. For example. A pack of 8 Greggs Sausage Rolls. Last year were £3.75. Now they’re a fiver. Iceland is dearer than Sainsbury’s and that’s saying something. I’m well aware you can’t get Greggs products in Sainsbury. I’m talking generally.
Yeah no kidding, I like how they price locked a load of items and he was so proud to tell the media only to then reduce the weight of them massively later on. Complete false advertising in my view.
Tried the Aldi cheese ones and steak ones but went back to the Iceland Greggs option tbh. Pastry on Aldi ones nowhere near as good I thought. Thanks Gareth for another good one.
I had a Greggs cheese and onion pasty, after years of not having one.... I was really disappointed, and I didn't even finish it.... It was just mash.... Not very cheesy at all, and nothing like I remembered. I'm already saying the cheaper ones, it's hard not to be influenced by experience, eh!! Kx
I wonder which factory has made both of them 🤔 I remember there was a news story about someone buying a multi pack of potato hoops from Aldi and finding packets of official Hula Hoops in the pack.
Good review Gaz.These both look nice but I don't really like that crumb topped pastry. It's on the Greggs Cajun Chicken bakes too.I have recently had some wood effect Lino fitted in my house and I am really happy with it but would like some new doors.I like your kitchen door Mate. Can you remember where you got it from?Sorry if that sounds Nosey but I like it
I suppose cheese pasties are dry and l love them so I'll try those aldi ones 😋 Loved the christmas cheese toastie review apart from someone called John pulling everyone to bits in comments saying you could make one yourself ... l guess John has gone to get get some flour milk and water plus chicken, stuffing and cranberries to make his own pasties too 🤣🎅
My air fryer only has temp/time cooking bakes pies etc i rap them in foil for half the time them finish them off open stops them drying out , do most things like that including sausages
