Blimey ! this is the first American who 'gets' an English (in this case working class) accent in a way that implies he understands the nuances and conveys with a realistic interpretation..Bloody great, normally Americans cannot work outside 'their box' .. .. it's not a put down just a fact as I see it.. good to listen to what he says about Orton 's words through his engagement with the play..
When he does his English accent...he sounds like Oliver Reed. I had no idea that Joe Orton had a following in the USA at all, even though John Lahr is his biographer. This was a very nice surprise. Alec Baldwin is full of surprises.
What a great interview and what a nice surprise coming upon it! Thank you Emma Parker for allowing AB to speak to his heart's delight on JO and his experience with the plays. It's a joy to hear someone enthuse about a their passion, in this case to the point of breaking into giggles while delivering various lines from the plays. Impressive that AB can go into so much detail, and seem lost in reverie, without ever losing track of his initial point. The ending connection to Trump's lasciviousness and its ridiculousness was very interesting. I only just started reading JO and accidentally happened upon this interview, which has convinced me I must now read a good deal more of him. Thank you so much!
Yes. Agreed. You can tell he's a good actor because he talks with such enthusiasm about the job. From the heart's abundance the mouth speaks. True actors enthuse about their craft in the same way guitarists bang on about guitars. Great stuff.
