Constitutional silver is top tier silver, it’s my favorite to stack but there’s no such thing as a perfect coin as you’re about to find out.

if you want a coin with history you would want to buy a graded one for its numismatic value, people collect constitutional silver because they want the melt value of the silver. The more worn out it is the less silver is in it so when you have to go to liquidate it or even barter with it your potentially get less@@DrSchor

Tip for new stackers who may be struggling to afford gold and silver: work a side gig (I bought a skid steer and earn extra money using it) or a part-time second job and put 100% of the proceeds into precious metals. What I think it is, is the best way to stack “fractional” silver - if people want to do that. Paying the premiums on fractional bullion just doesn’t make since. Also if you have a LCS, (like mine), you can sift through the bin for the 1960-1964 stuff (but I have also found very little wear on many coins from the 1950s. Just recently, I was going through my stack and was miffed because my stack of walkers looked like it was missing a few coins compared to my Kennedys and Franklins. Try weighing a roll of them and comparing to the weight of a roll of 1964 Kennedy Halves. I think you'll find there is not as much of difference than you imagined. A lot of the difference in height is due to wear on high points and rims with which minimally affect the weight unless they are REALLY worn. I hope this makes you feel better.

I stack all types of silver depending on the cost since I'm looking for the most at the cheapest price. I have quite a bit of 90% in my stack and buy it frequently. I live in the Chicago area and visit several LCS and shows regularly. All sell by face value near me. I actually prefer that for the reason you mentioned. If you have a lot of the older silver that is worn quite a bit, it better to sell it by face value rather than by the weight. Also, while I like the Franklins and Mercuries, if I find the Kennedys and Roosevelts at the same price, I buy them since they usually have a little more silver to them since they are usually not as worn.

I like having a tube of each of the main types.. But %99 of the time I buy AU or xf and it's one of 4 coins ( Morgan Dollar, peace dollar, Walking Half, Mercury dime)... Or I'll buy a BU if I can find them for an okay price.... I stick them into caps and I put it into my stack... I think I have four tubes of Dimes and then two of any of the other type which is my SHTF tubes of bartering money,... but most of the time I rather just get something that is of somewhat quality and save them to pass down to the kids or whatever... silver price is going up you're going to make much more money on them... there's only three things that have held its own against inflation over the last three 400 years which is gold and silver, fine art, and real estate /land.... and when you have things that hold history and are kind of like Fine Art / collectible that are gold / silver... you're hitting two of those three legs at the same time.... anyways that's how it was taught to me by my grandfather years ago, just made sense..... I did a Guardhouse box of Mercury Dimes ($250 face/50 Rolls) I removed most of the slicks, I will say weight is much more important then height of rolls. The rim edge wares first and makes some stacks look lighter then they are, they flatten out. When the image is worn thats when loss mostly happens. A dollar (10) silver dimes is minted with 0.723 troy ounces of silver. The industry uses 0.715 to account for normal ware. i made sure all my rolls were 3.93 troy ounces or more (3.57 silver times 1.1 for 10% copper). So a good scale ($40) is a must IMO

It is referred to as "junk" for a reason. Someday if and when the price soars or the "shtf" your 90% will take a backseat to .999 as it will need to be refined to .999 and become less desirable and a little harder to sell. One of the reasons you often find mercs or walkers in decent (collectable) condition is most of these are not really desired by collectors any more unless you happen to get extremely lucky and happen across a key date. As a very long time stacker it is a good idea to put away some 90%, but please don't get overly caught up with it. .999 is the way to go!

I have some constitutional silver and I like it. Its good for fractional silver and making change in a barter situation. I do not like the war nickels or halves that are not at least 90% silver. I agree with the weight difference in the older coinage. Even with the higher premiums I think silver eagles are the way to go. I just picked up another tube of the 2024 Eagles. For looks I like the type 1 silver eagle over the type 2 but the type 2 are cheaper right now.

The reason why i stack 90% is because im a numismatist first silver stacker next. So i buy large lots of coins for my collection, to sell and my stack. So when i buy lots or collections I pay 75% of the market value. So i often get lots of junk silver under spot sometimes i pay a little extra for the silver. Like 80%. Thats how i stack ive never bought silver rounds in my life lol but I have like 100lbs of silver coins (exaggerating). The reason i don't sell my silver coins is because the margins are very slim and the price changes constantly. Im in a good position that I can just sell on eBay and don't have to deal with bullion.

All of my stock is AU to mint state quality. I only trade and sell $1.38 face 90% to the ounce of quality silver. In my opinion junk silver that is not AU or better should just be melted and refined into bars. I knew this was going to be the trend. I acted accordingly and prepared ahead of the curve. Really? I simply by them buy the roll (average circulated) and weigh the roll and since i now the percentage of silver and copper, i simply put in the weight of the role into my spreadsheet, which takes care of the calculations. This lets me know how much silver (or gold) i actually have. I buy constitutional silver for SHTF and not investment. The graded ones and the bullion are separate. Most of my stack is bullion, but i have switched over to constitutional now, because those will be the easiest to use and convert in a time of emergency. It's funny, but i actually count the copper weight in my "junk" silver, because it really does add a little value. Height is a poor example of determining wear. In the half dollar example there is a loss of 3.2% between the Walkers and the Kennedys. Yet the stack looks much shorter. This is because the greatest wear occurs on the highest points and the rims. This results in less weight loss of material than the bulk of the coin.
