Here's a glimpse at the last section of Alessandro's IGCC23 Field Session on Attacking and Defending Transitions. He provides excellent insight for the goalkeepers and the coaches in attendance. We look forward to having Alessandro back for IGCC24 this June in Wilmington, Delaware.

I see a lot of keepers today try to make saves with their feet first instead of trying to get their hands to the ball. The value of using a K-Save or spread save has it's use, but I think too many young keepers want to use this technique for almost all saves even when the ball is shot from distance. My feeling is that getting your hands to the ball and gaining possession is far more valuable than giving up rebounds or corner kicks.

That’s true. I practice with my son on his videos. I always try to encourage him to catch if he can .

Not sure we agree with explaining the positioning of showing the near post open. Most goals are scored near post, the service can come quicker, and it is harder to react for the goalkeeper. Certainly, your point is right early on about the GK standing higher on the line, because they can recover for a ball over top. We do like the language, "be brave and not suicidal." All GKs need to control their 6 as much as they can.
